About The Five Point Star Tin Tile On a trip to New York we fell in love with the tin ceiling tiles used in restaurants and bars. We're beside ourselves with excitement to be able to bring you some of our favourite designs of genuine tin tiles. They're beautiful and perfect for so many uses including as splashbacks in the kitchen, headboards in the bedroom, bath panels in the bathroom and general decoration on ceilings and walls. Why We Think You'll Love The Star Design Tin Tile Leave the tin tiles as they are and enjoy the natural silver colour and shiny finish or we think they're great for painting and ageing to make them completely unique to your home, style and decor. For more information on paint effects and application please view our Tin Ceiling Tile Installation and Care Guide. Where To Style The Star Tin Tile The tin tiles can be attached using nail pins in the corners or with an adhesive suitable for use with tin-plated steel. Initially we were disappointed that the tiles were not as crisply pressed / detailed as they appear in your photographs, the lack the zing you illustrate imo. Rocket St George suggest that the tiles can be used for a Splashback, but they really are not suitable for this purpose and I feel I need to warn other's who try to create one with them. And here is why. It is stated that they require coating with a heatresistant paint of clear coat. In effect the only heat resistanct clear paint available in the UK is automotive, searching for applicable paint became a full time occupation in itself, once found, (aerosol was the only applicable that had the aspects required) this was sprayed with due care and to their instructions, producing a grainy, matt finish, even on degreased metal, (this is the characteristic of aerosol droplets of course and not Rocket St George's responsibility, but remember this is about the only paint you can find to do this job!), they looked terrible and I ended up re-coating them with a decorator's gloss finish polymer and water based paint, hand brushed, the remaining brush texture was infinitely preferable to leaving them looking TERRIBLE. All this after mounting the somewhat flimsy tiles to a pc of 6mm ply, and then to the wall behind our range. Note, when they overlap you cannot get them to like flat on one another leaving a 'seam' that rather spoils the look and isn't tidy or professional looking, when you screw them, any pressure distorts the tile as they are quite thin. Now that they have a painted and water based paint (in an effort to make them look halfway decent) my fear is that a little elbow grease and cleaning product will A. Ruin their current reasonable looks, and B. As thin as they are you'll crush them scrubbing, in fact the moment a bigger saucepan or heavier clast pot hits the back of the range and onto the Splashback, they are going to be irreprably dented, as you not be able to uncrush any dents, hence my view that though they look nice, and funky, they are not in the least suited to this function.. tand the amount of work getting them to a place where they look satsifactory is onerous. Not recommended for this purpse hence the review, but do have to say they look pretty funky, even if they were a bit smoothed out and not as defined as the photos suggest.
