Tired and dated hotel in Gibraltar.

Tired and dated hotel in Gibraltar.
Waiters were inattentive and reception unhelpful.
Located up a poorly serviced hill.
The rooms were adequate, the views fantastic and the food passable.
We will not be staying there again.

Winter Break at most well-known hotel in Gibraltar

We stayed for a long weekend break in December 2025 and I have to thank every member of the team of The Rock Hotel for their service during our stay. From the bar/restaurant staff to housekeeping and reception, everyone seemed genuinely happy to help and took pride in working there. The hotel was spotless and for an older hotel, very well maintained. The number 2 bus was easy to access downtown & Europa Point without the need to go up and down the incline and the views over the water and out to Spain are 2nd to none. The hotel is a good 4-star and has so much history but it is the staff that really make the hotel what it is and a big thank you to all for their helpful happy attitude day in/day out. We would definitely be back.

The Rock Hotel day pool pass

We booked a day pass for the swimming pool as we were on holiday in Gibraltar. At £30 each I thought this a little expensive as all that was provided was a towel and sun lounger. We booked and paid online the UK before we arrived. We had to go to the hotel reception on arrival and show photo ID. This turned out to be rather a chore as we queued to be seen for over 30mins . Then the receptionist had problems finding our reservation. We eventually got our wrist bands and made our way to the pool. The pool as with the hotel looks tired and dated. I wouldn’t say value for money . During the day a staff member approached us to say please call by reception when you leave they have something for. Why we are not staying at the hotel.
At the end off the day as we were leaving the pool the same staff member said please don’t forget they have something for you at reception. We duly left via reception and spoke to a staff member who informed us they had no record of payment . They have an antiquated computer system and poorly trained staff.
I had to retrieve the transaction on my phone app to prove payment.
I found the whole experience of basically being tricked and embarrassed by the staff totally unprofessional. Needless to say I would definitely give this hotel a miss. A new one next door is being constructed that will hopefully show up the failings of this hotel trying to live off former glories.

Yearly holiday for me and my princess

Me and my wife spent 8 days at the rock hotel 🏨 in Gibraltar same as we did last year and we love this hotel and it's location over looking the bay and Spain. And we will again next year too.
We got upgraded to a double room with a balcony at a small prearranged price which was brilliant.would like to say a big thank you .at breakfast think she one of the managers who all ways helpfulness and smiling and made us feel comfortable her name is Natalia wearing black suit.she remember us from last year's visit.
A credit to the hotel .
Only one point apart from all the reception staff which were great also but busy but so helpful too.
Rest of staff were notably miserable IE waiting staff and bar and we had a al a cart meal in restaurant .the meal was so lovely but shame chief and booking in staff need better people skills and friendly would be nice

This was our first stay at the Rock…

This was our first stay at the Rock Hotel to celebrate our anniversary. Generally ok, but a number of issues (some may regard as petty but make the difference between a 3 star and a 4) never mind 5.
We found ourselves on the first floor so views were a little limited, right above the restaurant so noisier than we would have liked.
The room itself was ok but balcony table looked like it had been dragged out of a skip. Sink plug didnt hold water so shaving was difficult, toilet waste pipe clearly visible, toilet seat askew. Somewhat amazingly there were zero coat hooks anywhere in the room or bathroom. When we mentioned this upon checking out, we were told door hooks were available 'at a small cost' really ? we would have to pay for use of the in-room safe, wardrobe doors wouldnt close, they were of the sliding variety which constantly slid open. We were only there for 2 days and frankly did not want to spend our valuable time at reception.
The pool didnt open until 10am which is a pity as both my wife and I like to have a refreshing morning swim, as someone else had posted, its quite a hazardous business crossing the road to get to the pool.
The hillside location was not an issue as we knew the area beforehand.
Overall, we would not be likely to stay at the Rock again.

Stayed last week and found the hotel…

Stayed last week and found the hotel clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The pool area was great and again the staff very good. The meals were fine and reasonably priced for a hotel. Nothing seemed to much trouble.
On the downside and no fault of the hotel, it was very noisy. Building works next door all day and road traffic made the balcony useable during the day. I would stay here again, once the works were complete.

Another stay at the best hotel in…

Another stay at the best hotel in Gibraltar, impeccable staff led on the floor by Abdullah, a perfect gentleman who oversees his staff in a firm but professional manner along with Said who is one of Abdullahs serving staff is always smiling and welcoming, you feel like you are returning to friends not just hotel staff. A truly pleasurable place to stay. Forget the bright lights and soulless floating hotels near the harbour, this is customer service at its finest. Thank you to all your staff not just the two mentioned, will see you again soon.

Building work ongoing opposite the hotel

Stayed one week at the Rock hotel in July, The hill to get to the hotel is very very steep. There is only one taxi service and all they want to do is take you on a tour to see the monkeys and therefore it is impossible to get a taxi up the hill to the hotel. The swimming pool is over a very busy road with no crossing, again you have to get up and down the hill, all the time we were there there was roadworks and building going on in the cliff, the noise and dust was terrible, the noise went on all day and they are actually building some sort of skyscraper so I expect that will go on for some time. The hotel is a little dated but the staff and 5he food was very good.

If i could give more than 5* i would

If i could give more than 5* i would, we have just returned from a 7 night stay, a family of 4, myself my husband & our 2 grown-up daughters, our rooms were comfortable, clean & modern, all staff were super-helpful, the food was delicious - from the stunning breakfast buffet to the options offered on their A la carte evening menu. The swimming pool is a superb spot to spend any afternoon soaking up the sun & has its own bar & catering. Every part of our stay was enjoyable & complimented by stunning views over the bay, we will certainly visit again, thank you to all at the Rock.

4/5 Hotel

The hotel is nice, however, is a little outdated and out of the way of everything (both an advantage and a disadvantage).

The customer service is on point and I will return.

Cheapest 4 star service!!!

This establishment need a serious training of their staff they aren’t welcoming at all!!! My husband and I stoped by to have a drink and enjoy the view but our experience was far from enjoyable. First they assigned us a glass table that was broken( picture attached) and second they wouldn’t even change our table because the 10 others were set for dinner but not one of them was actually taken. They were just lazy to remove the silverware. They didn’t even get our order right even if it is not that hard to remember 2 drinks. For a 4 star hotel I was expecting better service DONT WAIST YOUR TIME!!!
