Ensure to get windscreen cover

I recently hired a car from Rodos for a day trip to Lindos and had a frustrating experience that I think others should be aware of.
When booking, windscreen insurance wasn’t included in the price, it was an extra €10 and it wasn’t made particularly clear how costly that could be if something went wrong. During the day out, a small pebble hit the windscreen and caused a minor chip—something that can easily happen to anyone.
Unfortunately, because we didn’t have that extra cover, we were charged €600 for the damage. This felt extremely excessive for such a small incident and really took away from what should have been an stress-free trip.
I strongly feel that windscreen cover should either be included as standard or much more clearly highlighted during the booking process so customers can make an informed decision. Situations like this can easily catch people out and leave a very negative impression.

I can't believe I'm writing a favorable review for a car rental company. I "checked in" in advance so my time at the counter was less than ten minutes. Very professional. Car lot is on airport property. Another ten minutes and I was on my way. When I dropped off the car, the rep. did a quick walk around and said it was fine, not the microscopic some rental companies do

I booked the car on line and everything went smoothly

I booked the car on line (no deposit) and pre-registered licence/passport details. I added a note that I needed an additional driver and the reception desk at the airport had the paperwork ready to add the additional driver. It took less that five minutes before I had paid and had the keys.

The car had full insurance and no deposit nor credit card was required. There was also no attempt to upsell.

The car pick up is a small walk across the front of the airport car park. The damage report was already prepared so just a quick check over, confirmation of fuel levels and we were on our way.

The car (Toyota Aygo) had 64000k on it and a few dings, which is to be expected at the end of the season. All tyres were very good and the car drove well.

Return to the airport is in the same place in the car park. Just a quick confirmation of pre-existing damage and fuel. No hassle at all.

The rental was very reasonable (under €20 per day) including full insurance. I always take out additional insurance cover in UK (£60 per year) to cover keys, locks and underside which are never generally covered on Greek insurance.

I would definitely recommend.

Good value for money

Good value for money. We really appreciated that they brought the car to our accommodation in Rhodes town, which saved us some time and hassle in the morning. All communication was smooth, they were very responsive, and there were no issues with the rental process or the car itself. Easy as it should be. Also, after dropping the car off at the rental office, they drove us to the port free of charge for our boat trip. That was a nice touch of customer service.

This was our second time using Rhodos…

This was our second time using Rhodos Cars and it’s was just as good as the first.
Easy booking process, hardly any waiting at their kiosk, received the car I booked (Citroen C3) and a quick and easy car collection.
The car was in good condition everything worked, and it had only done 24000 miles.
Just what was needed for 2 weeks.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Various cars are advertised as available, but after completing the lengthy booking process and providing all my passport and licence details, the request is denied due to “no availability.” This happened twice for different dates. To make things worse, when you message on WhatsApp for support, you are completely ignored.

Thank you for your feedback. Please allow us to clarify: the availability of cars depends on several factors, especially in LAST MINUTE requests. While a car might be available in South Rhodes, it may not be available for immediate delivery in North Rhodes.

As you correctly mentioned, what you submitted was a RESERVATION REQUEST and not a confirmed reservation. When there is actual availability, the system automatically confirms your booking—no extra confirmation is needed. In your case, the requests could not be accepted due to limited last-moment availability.

Regarding communication, kindly note that a message is always answered, but sometimes not instantly. If an immediate reply is required, the best way is to call directly so that an available representative can assist you right away.

We truly believe that a rating should reflect an actual rental experience. In the vast majority of cases, with just two days’ notice, we are always able to provide a car, as we have the largest fleet on the island. Same-day or next-day requests can occasionally be impossible to fulfill.

Finally, please note that to make a reservation the only mandatory details are name, email, and phone number. All other information (such as licence and passport details) can be safely provided later, after the booking confirmation or even at the car collection.

Car rental 2 days - treaty only 1 1/ 2 days

Car rental 2 days resulted in a treaty from Wednesday. 8:30 am until Thursday evening 8:30 p.m. This means 36 instead of 48 hours!!!
Car itself was ok.

The reception of the Hotel was so kind to make a phone call to Reservate the car for 2 days, the treaty therefore was only visibly when taking the car the next morning.
It might be better to reservate online instead via Hotel.

The rental agreement determines the start and return times to ensure clarity for both parties.

The practice you mentioned is standard for car rentals at airports or ports, where companies operate fixed stations and vehicles can be returned at any time to match flight or ferry schedules—allowing the same car to be rented again without losing a rental day.

For rentals like yours, where the vehicle is delivered and collected at your residence rather than a staffed station, the return time is agreed in advance between the renter and the company. This timing allows us to collect, clean, and inspect the vehicle, then transfer it to another location for the next customer without losing a rental day. Importantly, the rental price is calculated with this practice in mind, and no separate delivery or collection fee is added as long as the car is returned on the agreed evening before.

Should a customer wish to keep the car overnight or adjust the rental period to different times, we are always happy to review such requests, and—depending on availability—approve them with an adjusted price.

Booked a car for 12:30 and was cancelled because they said i didn’t answer on the phone at 12:00 even if i called back 5 minutes after the missed call, i was told they can make it at 13:00 which i didn’t want as i have already lost half day because of all the delays

Since our bookings include free cancellation and no prepayment, we must confirm directly with the customer before sending a car. In your case, after the missed call and your request, we immediately offered to organize a new delivery within just 30 minutes. This required three people (one with the rental car, one return driver, and a representative for the contract) to reach your location — at no extra cost. We believe this shows our dedication to serving customers who trust us for their car rental in Rhodes, even at the very last moment. We are also proud to be one of the very few companies on the island able to arrange car deliveries to any location in Rhodes on such short notice.

Regarding the price: our cars start from €16/day with full insurance when booked early in the season for a week or longer. Prices always depend on the car model, rental period, and time of year — in August, naturally, rates are higher.

Honest, Friendly, and Exactly as Promised – 3 Years in a Row

Renting a car in a popular holiday destination can often feel like a gamble — and unfortunately, we've had our fair share of bad experiences in other countries. Hidden fees, blocked deposits for weeks... we've learned to be cautious.

When planning our first family trip to Rhodes in 2023 (six people in total), we searched for a rental company that could provide a 7-seater vehicle with clear, honest pricing. We found Rodos Cars, and I'm so glad we did.

Booking required no deposit (a huge plus already). The service at the airport terminal and the handover point in the parking area was fast, friendly, and efficient. We received exactly the vehicle we reserved (Nissan Evalia), which suited us perfectly.

Returning the car at the airport was equally smooth — no stress, no surprises. This great experience led us to book with Rodos Cars again in June 2024 and now in June 2025. The last two years we've driven a Toyota Proace City — again, exactly as reserved.

We've always paid at the airport using a debit card, never had to leave a deposit, and never faced hidden charges. Special thanks to the amazing lady at the outdoor parking handover point — her service has been outstanding every time.

Compared to the usual Southern Europe rental chaos, Rodos Cars is an absolute exception — honest, professional, and scam-free. Highly recommended.

Beware credit card scammers

I was staying for a month on Rhodes last October. A Rodos car agent came to my villa and left me the hire car. She demanded I what’s app a copy of my credit card to them. I wasn’t happy about this. She phoned her English husband in front of me and he said rules are rules. I did so reluctantly. And immediately froze my card online. I kept it frozen for the whole trip and only unlocked it in January when I needed to pay for a hotel in the UK. Then my card as used on Rhodes to buy a Rolex watch via eBay ! £8000 was taken off my credit card. My card company said someone had tried to use it most days since November and failed as it was locked. Luckily I had my money back. I text the lady who dropped my car off and she immediately tried to phone me. I told her to get lost and the police are involved. I emailed Rodos cars and they never replied. Avoid this scam of a company at all costs ! 😡

We also have no record of any email received from you or anyone regarding a matter like that.

Rodos Cars has never and will never request customers to send credit card photos via WhatsApp or any other insecure method. This is against our company policy and GDPR standards.

We do not require a credit card image for rentals — and in most cases, no deposit or hold is required at all, especially for small or medium-sized cars.

Our team is trained to respect privacy and data protection, and we maintain strict internal control over any payment-related procedures.

If any individual falsely represented our company or acted outside of protocol, we urge you to contact us immediatelywith details (confirmation number, exact location, car license plate, or the name of the person you dealt with), so we can investigate this fully.

Please email us directly at savvas@rodoscars.gr — I am the Reservation Manager and will personally review the case to clarify what happened. If any fraud was committed by someone falsely acting under our name, we will fully cooperate with the police to uncover the truth.

Excellent Service

Excellent Service
We pre-booked the car using their website from the UK at a very competitive price for 7 days. No pre-payment was required. We picked up the car from our hotel in Kolimbia and that process was quick and efficient.
I’d used the car for a couple of days and noticed a very minor non mechanical fault. I reported that at 1700 and was given an almost brand new car as a replacement by 1930. I was very happy with that for the rest of the period.
One thing to note, and may well not be limited to this company, is the meaning of ‘F.D.W. Full Damage Waiver with no excess (No Deposit) Insurance’. This, as I understand it only relates to if you have an accident. As it happened I had my own insurance to cover any costs relating to damage not caused in an accident. I got the impression that other renters have also been surprised by that.

Costas the man

Our first trip to Rhodes, we didn't know how to get around so decided to hire a car. (Can always be dodgy with extra hidden charges etc). In the reception of our resort, Cooks Club, we saw a Rodos hire car company and spoke to Costas. What a wonderful charming man who gave us sound advice on interesting places to go on our travels around the island and saved us lots of money on taxi fares. Hiring a car from Costas was straight forward and very easy with no hidden extras, which was a God send.

Avoid! No money refund

Ordered a car for 1 day, received a different car, not even been mentioned we getting a different car, no update from them
Paid 850 euros deposit and been told I have to wait 30 DAYS TO GET IT BACK!!! Never again! Horrible experience and waiting for 30 days to get deposit back is too long!! Other car hire companies refund this within a day!
AVOID THIS CAR HIRE!!!

You had reserved a VW T-Roc Cabriolet, and due to an exceptional situation — likely a delay or last-minute issue with the vehicle — we upgraded you free of charge to a BMW 218i Convertible. Both vehicles fall within the same luxury convertible category and share the same insurance conditions. While we always aim to provide the exact model booked, occasional substitutions are sometimes necessary and standard in our industry, especially during high-demand periods.

Regarding the €850 deposit: this was not a charge but a temporary hold placed on your credit card. This is required for luxury vehicles, in line with insurance policy regulations, and is clearly stated during booking and vehicle collection.

It’s important to note that the deposit amount never left your bank account — it was only blocked. Upon return of the car, we immediately sent a digital release signal to your bank to end the hold. The speed at which the funds become available again depends entirely on your bank’s internal processing time, not on RODOS CARS. Some banks release the hold within hours, others may take several days — and in rare cases, up to 30 days.

We understand how frustrating this can feel, but rest assured that from our side, the process was completed properly and without delay.

Fourth Rental *****

This was our fourth time renting a car with Rodos Cars, and once again, the experience was nothing short of outstanding. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless and professional.

The airport desk staff were welcoming, efficient, and ensured all paperwork was handled swiftly. A special thank you to Elainie at the pick-up point — she is always an absolute pleasure to deal with. Don’t stop people stealing Rodos cars

On the last day of hire two people attempted to break into the car. They were spotted by a passerby and alerted us and the thieves ran off empty handed. Police were called and details taken. Despite preventing their car from being stolen I was told I had to pay for the broken side window €208 as the theft insurance did not cover a car that was not taken.!!!!!

We completely understand how distressing it must have been to deal with the attempted break-in, and we are relieved to know that the thieves ran off without taking anything. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Regarding the charge for the broken side window, we would like to clarify that the charge was not related to the theft of the car itself. The damage occurred during the attempted break-in, where the thieves were trying to steal personal items from inside the vehicle, not the car itself. As per our theft insurance policy, which is in line with standard car rental insurance coverage, it covers vehicles that are stolen but does not extend to damages caused during an attempted theft.

We also offer an additional insurance option, the W.U.G. Insurance, which specifically covers damages such as broken windows, mirrors, lower parts of the car, and even wheels. Unfortunately, this insurance was not selected when you made your reservation, which is why the charge for the window damage was applied.

While incidents like these are very rare in Rhodes, we understand how upsetting they can be, and we sincerely regret that you had to experience this during your stay. We hope this explanation provides some clarity, and that it does not overshadow the overall enjoyment of your trip.

Insurance scam

Despite being told there was “Full Damage Waiver with no excess (No Deposit)”. On picking up the car I was told tyres, wheels, windscreen, and underbody were extra. On paying out for this, then told the insurance company would still require a €40 excess in event of damage. What a racket! Avoid!

We offer you the flexibility to choose whether you'd like to handle all the necessary procedures—such as paperwork, visits to insurance offices, or a police report—on your own, in which case you will not need to pay the administration fee.

However, most of our customers, when faced with an incident, prefer to have us take care of all the logistics. This allows them to avoid any disruptions to their holiday and continue enjoying their time without the stress of handling these tasks themselves. The €40 covers the cost of managing the necessary steps to ensure you can quickly get back to enjoying your vacation without wasting precious time.

We understand that holidays are for relaxation, and we strive to make sure that any unforeseen events don't interfere with that. The €40 fee is a small price to pay to avoid the hassle and inconvenience that can arise from handling such matters independently.
