Problems with Roomlala's insurance, but customer team at Roomlala helped

As a tenant, when making my booking of a room in Paris through Roomlala, I was happy to read that I would get insurance coverage in case something goes wrong during my stay. In fact, I actually broke a valuable object in the landlord's flat by accident, and the thing was worth EUR 350 which is a lot for me to pay out of my pocket. I thought that's exactly why the insurance is there and thank God I have it. But when I submitted my claim, I got refused. I had to go through some back and forth with the insurance broker trying to convince them it was precisely this case (me causing accidental damage while staying in the flat) that was envisaged in the contract and precisely the situation that the insurance was for. They would not listen to anything I had to say. I had to contact Roomlala's customer service. I said: look, you promised me on your website that there would be "suitable insurance adapted to the sublet" and apparently it's not the case. To give credit to Roomlala's customer care team, they responded promptly and intervened in the situation. They liaised directly with the insurance broker and got it sorted out for me pretty quickly, so, in the end, I did get the money. I am very grateful(!) to Roomlala's customer care team for being efficient in helping me and I would give them a 5-star review but, because I did have a problem with insurance, I have to average it out to 3 stars. All is well that ends well! However, for the sake of other users, I would also like to recommend that Roomlala look into the insurance coverage and procedure. It really should have been a straightforward set of communications between me and the insurance company. It should be a straightforward set of communications for anyone else in a similar situation. For other users out there counting on being covered by insurance through Roomlala, the main stumbling blocks that I faced were: the insurance broker (Cabinet Albinet) said that the insurance only covered items belonging to the legal owner of the apartment and did not cover property of the long-term tenant living in the flat who rented me a room through Roomlala and was for all intents and purposes in the position of the owner vis-a-vis me; once the client care team at Roomlala helped me clear that hurdle, the insurance broker started asking for a written permission from the legal owner of the apartment given to the long-term tenant authorising the short-term subletting of the room to me. Also, note that the insurance only covers short stays of no more than 90 days. All in all, the experience with the insurance broker was not great, but I wish to thank the client care team at Roomlala once again for their assistance!

Very bad experience

I have been put in contact with a landlord by roomlala and it ended up being a scam. They don’t check their landlords or the flats. The pictures were fake and the man ran away with my 1900 euros deposit that I had sent to his bank account. Roomlala said they were not responsible because the payment didn’t go through their website. I’m still chasing the man and he could still be on the website under another name

Hello Diallo, we are sorry to ear that but that's why all bookings must be paid on our platform, this is our way to protet you.

By bypassing Roomlala like you did to avoid paying our fees, we indeed can't protect you.

Furthermore, be sure that we banned this landlord and all the new account he tried to create since.

Unprofessionally

Unprofessionally - They don't refund - Attention with landlor.

Hi everyone - I just get a very bad experience with Roomlala and I would like to tell you something:
1- Don't pay with your credit card if you can't reached the landlord by telephone - my landlord was never pick her telephone up, she said "I don't understand why but I didn't pick up but couldn't connect to you""- I was thought it was because of the network at first.

2- You might have to test the landlord if he / she care about you and call you back if you have some troubles on arrivals. Don't trust people easily. I believe that Roomlala do not have enough data on the landlord, and can not control their network professionally.

3- From my experience. I cancelled the reservation when I could't join the landlord and Roomlala do not refund me as they said:

"No refund is provided by Roomlala when the decision to cancel the reservation is unilateral on the part of the tenant and does not meet the conditions of a dispute. Any decision regarding a cancellation, not a dispute, must be processed between the tenant and the owner directly."

My landlord is Catherine and the person get in touch with me on Roomlala is Laura.

This is the first time I'm on Roomlala and get very bad experience. I won't never ever return to Roomlala for any reason, the way they solve problem make me feel unprofessional. So only one star for them.

Hello Pham,

Thank you for your review.

Please know that when a reservation is made on Roomlala or any other online reservation platform, the landlord is committed to hosting the tenant in accordance with the agreed terms, and the tenant is committed to complying with the terms of the rental, including the arrival time.

In your case, you both agreed on the arrival time the day before the arrival, which was 8pm. However, the landlady informed us that you did not show as planned and that you did not inform her that you would be late either, despite the fact that you had her email address and her current phone number. She tried to reach you on the number that your provided in your profile, but it was unavailable. Therefore about 2 hours later, she stopped waiting as she simply thought that you cancelled on her.

You then declared a dispute at 11:52pm, indeed 4 hours after the arrival time, and you only then sent your new phone number to the landlady. Therefore we hope that you understand that your case cannot qualify as a dispute. We consider it as a tenant cancellation and our cancellation policy here applies.

We are sincerely sorry to read that you are dissatisfied with our service. We hope that you understand that when booking online, it is important to read carefully the terms and conditions and to live up to your commitments.

Best regards,

The Roomlala Customer Service Team

We have had one problem or another with…

We were landlords with Roomlala. Though they did help us with one bad tenant,,,We have had one problem after another with Roomlala. Getting paid for the most part takes 2 weeks or more. Once we waited over 6 months! They always blame on the banks. We lost a guest do to glitches in Roomlala's system that never got the guests acceptance of our pre-approval to us, our profile confirmations have vanished on more than one occasion. They take days, sometimes weeks to reply and fix things if they reply at all. Then when they do reply you are lucky if they have addressed all the issues. (all the help resources and emails are from the same person leading us to believe that the reason for their issues is because they are really only a one or 2 person show...not that this would be a problem if they were more efficient) their help resources are incomplete, contradictory, and mostly not helpful. they advertise one thing and do something else...It is free to post an ad...that is about it!!!! they tell you that you need to buy Connect membership to contact/communicate with potential guests. they also tell you that connect is free if you have a certain amount in rentals then when you get to that amount they tell you it is considered a free connect membership therefore you do not qualify for the advantages of the membership?????? they say we broke the rules, it is because we did not know the rule!!! as when the guest originally booked the rule was different, but Roomlala screwed up that booking and the guest ended up loosing the original booking with us. When he arrived in Canada he found us and came to our home to book it himself, in person. WE ARE SO DISHONEST, that we got him to do a new booking through Roomlala even though he was sitting at our table and could have paid directly!!!!!! They are the worst booking agency ever and i would give a -10 if I could. When you ask them to prove they sent the payment, they don't...cause if they didn't I assume, it would probably show they are at fault. THEY BLAMED THE BANK FOR MONTHS ON THE FIRST ONE AND THEN FINAL SAID SORRY OUR FAULT!!!

Hello Bruce,

We are very sorry to read that you have been dissatisfied with our service. We truly did our best to help you out and we answered to your requests as soon as possible.

We understand your frustration about the delay in receiving your payments. We know our landlords rely on rents. We do process the payments shortly after the tenants arrive, and then shortly after the due dates, as far as the following rents are concerned. We know you think we always blame the banks, but it is unfortunately true. We have no control over the banks' delays, especially for international transfers. If we could, we would! We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience though. We understand how frustrating it can be when the rents are a dependable source of income.

However, regarding your comment about the Connect Pass, it is in fact possible to communicate with potential guests without subscribing to the pass. The communication must simply occur on our site.

As for our offer which gives landlords the Connect Pass advantages for free once they've earned a certain amount of money, we must reiterate the information given to you by one of our customer service agents and say that the reason you did not receive these advantages was because you broke our terms and conditions by having your tenant pay one of the rent payments to you directly, rather than using our platform.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,
The Roomlala Customer Service Team

reimbursement

Our son had a bad experience with a landlord named Pierre Dompetrini, in Bastia, Corsica- basically he rented the room but on arrival he was denied entry to the flat by the other lodgers. Pierre Dompetrini kept delaying answering and promising he was going to meet my son, that they were going to talk, that he needed an invoice to prove what happened - all complied to by our son- in order to give the money back, but he never did) Don't trust this man.

Roomlala agreed, very kindly, to reimburse the 60 euro deposit. This was 4th September. Despite "Laura" telling us over and over in our emails that the money was transferred, it never reached our bank account. I tried, over 3 months, to explain this to Laura. However, despite her/them telling us that they had tried again,it took a considerable long time to reimburse the deposit. It has now been received.

Triple charge and no refund months later

My son made a booking with Roomlala on 30 August 2018 in the amount of 356 euros. The credit card later showed that Roomlala had charged the credit card three times within three days.
After he had contacted them, they eventually sent an email giving some nonsense story about being "only debit authorisations". The next day, 3 October 2018, in another email they admitted that a triple charge had been made and promised to refund the extra two payments.
It's now 23 October and Roomlala still have my money with no sign of a refund. I've been forced to go to Visa to ask for a charge-back, which can take up to 60 more days.
There is obviously no comeback on Roomlala for their behaviour, other than ordinary folks like me calling them out on their fraudulent practice.

Update: On 23 October 2918, the refund finally turned up on my credit card. Of course, since the transaction was in euros and had to be converted to pounds sterling, the erroneous charges were twice £320, and I was only refunded two lots of £313.21.

Hello Rex,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Unfortunately there was indeed a technical issue regarding your son's reservation. Our technical team has been able to work on it since your last email to our customer service. We therefore proceeded with the refund of the two extra payments.

On behalf of Roomlala, I want to sincerely apologise for this technical issue. We understand your frustration as this shouldn't have happened. We therefore also refunded our commission as a gesture of goodwill.

We thank you for your patience and your understanding and we hope this unlucky experience won't stop you from using Roomlala again in the future.

Best regards,
The Roomlala Customer Service Team

UPDATE following your last review update: please note that we just refunded £7 on your account as well. The amount should appear shortly on your bank account.

Be careful

Be careful

This website is risky...
You have much better alternatives.

I booked a Room for my stay in France for the 20th. But I was only able to be there on the 23rd.

As they explain in their user agreement you only have 2 days to report any problem and get your money back. Well first, it’s not 2 days, its 36 hours. In anticipation to this I sent them a message to let them know I will be late for my arrival and to wait until the 22nd around 10pm before making the payment. They answered me the 21, at around 10, so about 1h before the expiration of the delay to report any problem, telling me I should put the location in litigation just in case. By the time I saw the message, it was too late, I no longer had that option available but I trusted them in handling it since I talked with their customer service.

I came to the place and the owner sends a friend asking for a deposit and 2 months in advance which were not part of the contract (I have proofs of everything). I refused to pay and he said I couldn't enter, to which I replied I'd be getting my money back then.

Right after, I sent a message to Roomlala to let them know what happened, they replied 2 days after (understandable since it was the weekend) saying I didn’t follow their rules and they will see what to do. By the way, if you have a problem, don't call their customer service, noone ever answers.

After a couple of days, they paid back the service fees and said they couldn't do anything about the rent which was already transferred to Isabelle.

To this day, I’ve been trying to reach her to get my money back but no answer from her.

But what bothers me, is that as of now, October 08th, about 2 weeks after this happened, you can still see offers of rentals from her on their website. They took no action to block her account despite being aware of the situation

I posted a comment on her profile to warn future users which was never published. I tried to report the room I rented which is still up on the website as fraud but I can't, I can do it for other offers though.

This might be bad luck for me, maybe I should have been more careful, but it's just unbelievable that they still let her on their website. The room I was suppose to be in until december 20th has been put back for rental. Maybe they're letting her do this because she is one of their premium users.

Again, I have proof of everything I'm saying.
Please, if you have any other alternatives for your accommodations for a travel, use it instead! If things go wrong as it can happen to anyone, don't expect any help from them. Futhermore, they won't take any measure to protect future users.

Roomlala allows violent landlords but not my Facebook post about it

I reported a violent landlord to Roomlala, including video and picture evidence. They "looked into it," only to say they would not remove her because of her two positive reviews. I posted a review on their Facebook page, and Roomala promptly removed it. Roomlala has no problems with a violent landlord continuing to rent rooms, but my post about my experience with a Roomlala rental was deleted. Do not trust this service.

Problems getting back deposits

I have waited 5-7 working days in good faith, but I have still not received two deposits back. For the first studio, I gave the deposit through Roomlala so that it was safe and secure, then the landlord began acting suspiciously - asking me to transfer money directly to his account. refused and I then contacted Roomlala to share my concerns, they said they were investigating him for fraud and I should get my money back in the magic 5-7 days, but I have received nothing.

In the meantime, I put a deposit for another property (again through Roomlala, supposedly safely and securely) but the request was cancelled by the landlord. I believe it expired.

All in all, that is around £1,000 that I am waiting on, and I am a student.

Also, Roomlala used to have a number on their website that could be called. It was actually for insurance, but I used it to speak about my claims. Often, it goes to automated message, but when it had gone through on occasion, a member of staff claimed that I would be reimbursed in the 5-7 days. The same thing was said in regard to my first incident when I filled in the contact form online. But no such luck.

Hello Izin,

We are truly sorry about the experience you encountered with that landlord. As one of our Customer Service agents informed you, we did proceed to the refund and hope you'll be able to see the amount very very soon, if you don't already.

The other reservation requests that you made were never accepted by landlords. Therefore, we never debited your bank account but only had the authorisation to proceed if and only if the landlord accepted. You bank did however freeze the amount on your account to guarantee that the money would still be available for us when the landlord would confirm. But because the landlord did not, the debit authorisation was cancelled and your bank was automatically informed. (More info here: https://roomlala.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004928705-Why-does-my-bank-account-show-a-debit-for-my-reservation-request-)

Making the amount available again on your account now only depends on your bank. They sometimes make it fast but the process can also take up to 30 days. We are very aware that it is difficult not to be able to use this money. Unfortunately it does not depend on us and there's nothing more we can do. We recommend that you get in touch with your bank advisor to know more about their way of dealing with cancelled debit authorisations.

Best regards,
The Roomlala Customer Service Team

Emails from Rosina Baresi are probably fake

Hello Community,

I made the same experience like Harol Villamil with a person called "Rosina
Baresi".
The emails content literally the same words and the same offer about a 47m2 flat for 250,- EUR a month - just about a flat in Regensburg, instead of Berlin. We can definately expose her as a fraudster, because it is she sent me the same mails about how she bought the flat in 2017 and that she lived there till four month ago.
So here's a warning to all those who are also contacted by a woman called Rosina Baresi, there's something really not right about these offers.
Hope I can help and maybe save someone from this fraud.
