In 30+ years of decorating I have never…

In 30+ years of decorating I have never come across such a tedious and unstable product. Rustin's is so unstable in colour tone that it literally changes depending upon how much you load on to your cloth. The reason for this is because the "colour" is actually pigments suspended in something like white spirit.

For anyone just applying one colour tint to a floor this will be a problem but it you're going to mix two colours then that weakness is going to be amplified, particularly if your matching new wood to existing stripped/sanded pine.

If I had to sum up using this product I'd say it was a complete nightmare. The stained floorboards would NEVER look like the sample stains I'd applied to a 3 foot piece of timber off cut I had. One attempt came out looking pink. The colour instability resulted in unnecessary new mixes being concocted and endless sanding off of the 3 foot sample piece of timber.

Technical support was all but useless. I discovered the problem with colour differences and variability according to how much was absorbed by my cloth and how thinly or heavily it was applied to the floorboards - EVEN with the same EXACT millilitre mix ratios myself - BUT not before having to sand back the newly painted "stained" floorboards 3 times before getting something that looked half average/good. That new wood was the equivalent of 25 linear meters.

Like I said, a complete nightmare. There are other products on the market like Liberon, or OSMO oils but the colours were not close enough for my project.
