Awful food quality
Looked great on line so drove an hour to visit. Oversold! But the main problem is the restaurant. Ordered two ploughman’s lunches. What was delivered did not include the coronation chicken as listed on the menu. Staff were rude. Then the salad- well there’s nothing like a nice crisp fresh salad sadly this was nothing like a fresh or crisp salad. The leaves were well browned around the edges - some completely rotten. Sadly I ordered on their online system and did not request an invoice otherwise I’d complain to the management. Take a packed lunch if you’re visiting.
Meat from their shop
Actually was in 2024 but i would just like to say . I purchased a great big gammon and a large piece of beef. Quite expensive but both unedible. I complained they replied and promised me they would get back to me concernig my wasted trip and cost. But a year later and still nothing
HIT YOU WITH FORKLIFTS AND THEN IGNORE YOU
1 star is too good. If I were a car they’d have to pay for damages! Used the fact I don’t have a copy of medical records to not pay out. Who has access to their medical records? So they injure you, cause you pain for 2 months, you can’t work and lose your wages and get NOTHING! They also blanked me, withdrew the compensation vouchers they emailed me the day of the incident and then got their insurance company to say if I contacted them again they’d take legal action against me. Charming.
So it’s ok to drive forklifts straight into people then without looking?!!!
I just popped in to buy one thing and left with an injury and in pain which lasted 2 months. NO HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS HERE TO SAFEGUARD THE PUBLIC!! I was even told to be quiet regarding the matter and paid off with measly vouchers which I didn’t want and won’t cover loss of earnings and weeks of painkillers. Later on I found out they’d cancelled the vouchers. They never said. Charming. I’d asked them several times for physical vouchers rather than digital ones and was then threatened with legal action if I contact them again. Charming!! I had to go to hospital because of them. Spent hours in a waiting room rather than earning money at work. Their insurance company said I’d have to wait 3 months which has long gone and it seems they are doing everything to wriggle out of this even though Ruxley said the incidents on cctv and it’s now in writing they admit fault. Ruxley now just ghost me. The whole situation is shocking. I didn’t deserve to be treated like this nor injured there.
So when I arrived at Ruxley, there were lots of boxes in different sized piles stacked up near the entrance. I had to walk past the boxes coming from my car in the car park to reach the entrance door. Thought nothing of it until a large stack moved forward as I passed them and hit me with force. Turns out they were on a forklift. There were so many boxes stacked up that I couldn’t see a forklift behind them. Wasn’t aware it was there. The driver couldn’t see me or past the boxes. Nor did he check it was safe to move before he drove straight at me. He only stopped because I swore loudly when he hit me. If I’d been a child or a pensioner, this would have been really serious. As it was I was left in pain for 2 months. Do they care? No! NOT ONE BIT. NO COMPENSATION. NOTHING. THEY CANCELLED THE EMAILED GIFTCARD WITHOUT EVEN SAYING. CHARMING. What kind of company is this?
There were no signs, cones or cordons. No warnings. Driver didn’t look. Driver couldn’t see ahead. I was given vouchers I would probably never spend (which didn’t cost them anything) and told to be quiet!!! Vouchers don’t cover loss of wages and the pain caused and the inconvenience of having to live alone with only the use of one arm. They were offered straightaway. Later cancelled, it turns out. What are the first things you are told to do when driving a car? You LOOK, move when it’s safe to do so!!! Not use a vehicle as a battering ram!!!!
I’ve lost wages, been in pain, had to go up the hospital, unable to carry on as normal for 2 months because of them. I live alone so no one to help me. Just had to manage without my right arm. I’m right handed. Now they are asking for unreasonable evidence 3 months later. I did go to hospital and it will be on the hospital records. Anything to get out of doing what’s right. I bet the person responsible still has his job! Bet nothings affected him whatsoever. They said he was experienced. Really? He should know better than to drive without clear vision/view in front. Not stack the boxes too high so he can’t see anything. The victim always suffers. I certainly have.
Why move boxes by the entrance during opening hours??? Damn right dangerous. Other garden centres take deliveries around the back. I asked them.
I’ve been going to Ruxley for 40 years. Never again. My skin crawls just driving past.
I never asked for this. I never asked to be injured. Never asked to be dealing with this stressful situation for months. Never asked for loss of earnings. Not being able to do my job properly. TO BE LEFT IN PAIN.
I should have got a solicitor immediately. Will be now. Or have to take them to small claims. Left me with no choice. Apparently you have 3 years to claim. So lots of time left although NFU seem to be time wasting so I have less time to take further action. You can’t just blank me. Enough is enough. What gets me is they’ve passed the buck to NFU and don’t answer any emails anymore. RUXLEY DOESNT CARE AT ALL WHAT HAPPENS TO THEIR CUSTOMERS ON THEIR PREMISES WHATSOEVER.
I have emails and letters between them and me and NFU to prove this is all true.
I GUESS I HAVE TO FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE. Solicitors and court. They can’t hurt people and do NOTHING AND GET AWAY WITH IT!! After all it’s why they have business insurance NFU.
This shouldn’t be a stressful battle when they admit fault! wrong!

I went to the start of the sale and was very disappointed.
Seems they shop on Temu. 90% very over priced tacky stuff.
Went to pay and the tills were saying wrong prices with everything. Chaos!
The manager Jo was extremely rude. Rolling eyes and demanding we make choices then and there. Even accused someone of stealing. What an embarrassment she was. No self control.
Sandra the cash lady was really trying her best. Even apologised for Jo behaviour.
Overall. Nice but extremely expensive place. With bad customer services

Initially had a nice walk around and a coffee in the cafe. A lady working on the shop floor was very helpful with pricing an item. Unfortunately at the tills two girls that were supposed to be serving were talking about their height and laughing. They paid minimal attention to us, have little regard for people’s money. I had to take my own receipt while they kept talking to each other. When we got back to the car we had an item missing which we had to go back and get. It would have been better if they had not been there. They need more customer training and respect for their customers.
Excellent after care and prompt communication
Whilst unfortunately the Twig Tree I ordered was defective and had to be returned, the customer after care was excellent. Charlotte replied promptly to my initial email. She quickly raised a job with DHL to pick it up. DHL turned out to be a nightmare as they didn’t show and in the end Charlotte arranged a pre paid label for me to return it via a parcel drop off store. Charlotte also emailed me to advise that my refund had been initiated. Due to the aftercare and great communication, I would highly recommend this company.

If you’re considering fish and chips at Ruxley Manor, don’t bother. The fish I was served was watery, tasteless, and had all the hallmarks of being cooked from frozen. At £14.99, it felt like a complete waste of money. What makes it worse is I expected better from Ruxley Manor, as I’ve always thought of it as somewhere offering good quality food. Based on this experience, I won’t be ordering it again.
Turns paying customers away
The food hall doesn’t want customers. Staff on deli counter refused to serve us cooked meats at 16.30, a whole hour before the shop shut, because the slicer had already been disinfected ready for the next day. So we didn’t buy anything at all - and we would have bought a lot. We are telling everybody we know, and every review site out there - avoid this place at all costs. This shop doesn’t want to serve customers, doesn’t want your money, and has no interest in doing business full stop. We did give Customer Services the chance to provide a remedy before leaving the store, but they weren’t interested. AVOID!
Staff very helpful and friendly
Staff very helpful and friendly, explained everything. Also willing to put themselves out that extra mile to help out.

Nice place to visit for your gardening needs, good food & drink aswel! Just need more Tesla fast charging stations to get that 5 star treatment guys! Too often im unable to charge my vehicle as its fully loaded! Have a word with Tesla please get more installed, plenty space over there!
Thankyou
If I could give zero stars
Poor quality plants. Bought 4 cucumbers, 2 died. Bought 10 F1 sweet corn Nine turn out to be baby corn. My friend bought baby corn and ended up with large corn. When raised with customer service they don't care. Should be boycotted for poor performance. Waste of money.
Great service from start to finish
Web order - garden furniture and cover. We went with Ruxley based on price and availability and received a great service from start to finish. Initially spoke to someone in store re availability and then ordered online. Fast delivery with good comms. We experienced a mix up with the wrong cover being delivered but this was swapped over at the expense of Ruxley (delivery & collection). No complaints and would recommend based on our experience.
Unhelpful miserable staff
Lovely selection of plants, even though they didn’t have what I was looking for. But I have never known such unhelpful miserable staff in my life!!!! We also visited the cafe and the staff were abrupt and miserable there too!!
Do not order from this centre
Do not order from this centre. They fail to resolve their failure to deliver items ordered. Their courier cancelled a delivery date and failed to turn up on a second date. In calls to the centre when answered staff have promised to resolve the matter but not done so as promised and they appear incapable of resolving this or giving a refund when requested due to their failure to deliver.
Expert gardener advice
I needed some advice for a Jasmine plant which wasn't thriving.
The support and expert help I received was amazing. Extensive knowledge, experience and direction. I was given the right product, talked through dosage and correct diagnosis of iron deficiency.
Very impressed and grateful.
Thank you.
STENCH of FISH
I have always thoroughly enjoyed my regular trips to Ruxley but it was seriously tainted yesterday by the overwhelming stench of fish as soon as you enter the main entrance into the fruit and veg area. I usually buy food in there and the main food area but couldn’t loiter due to the stench.
Sadly I won’t be returning unless I hear this issue (which staff tell me is a regular thing now due to the so called fresh fish….btw, fresh fish should NEVER smell)
Not a great experience
Not a great experience. Looked up a well known brand of rose tonic online and learned Ruxley was only local supplier. Finally sent to the advice area in Ruxley where the lady said that it had been banned. I said are you sure? She rang yet another person for help. “Do we sell Uncle Roses… err what’s it called again?”. Not an expert. Makes things up. Useless. Better to close the advice area and be done with it.
A fabulous customer service experience
We have just experienced the best customer service ever from Paul in the garden furniture department. He literally went out of his way to help us in purchasing a table and chairs that was on clearance, without pressure to buy it, explaining, with tips, how to put it together. Such a pleasant experience from a gentleman that knew what he was doing and in a professional manner. He is certainly an asset to your company.
Frost proof pots ?
No stars for this one. I purchased a large frost free pot in 2021. The pot has started to get frost damage. I phoned Ruxley Manor garden centre, to get a refund or replacement. They told me, that they only cover these pots for a year. Anything over that I have to go back to the maker of the pot. Very disappointed with after care from Ruxley. No signs up saying frost proof pots only covered for one year with them. So if it says frost proof, ask questions. And frost proof does not mean frost proof. Very misleading? Ruxley Manor.
Damaged nail due to broken toilet
Really like this centre.
Stopped by the butcher’s this week and needed to use the bathroom—what a disappointment. The toilets were out of order filthy and clearly hadn’t been repaired since Christmas when I was there last. To make things worse, I chipped a nail trying to flush the toilet! Considering how much money this place must make, it’s shocking they don’t maintain basic hygiene. Even the Christmas decorations this year were underwhelming. Very poor Overall. No managers around to report. Awful.
