I would highly recommend to anyone looking for storage. Jackie and Blair at Fort Kinnaird made a stressful time much easier. They were very helpful, informative and professional. I used the storage unit for 8 weeks while moving house. The ease of access and use was a big plus.

Absolute scam with invoicing. Although you explicitly state when taking the storage you will be vaccinating within the month you have paid for, and give 14 days notice, they still generate a invoice for the second month based on some rolling invoice date which was not explained in person when setting up the storage. Then proceed to ignore all follow up emails and just send the overdue invoice reminders.
UPDATE - SINCE THE SAFESTORE REPLY BELOW THERE HAS BEEN NO CONTACT FROM SAFESTORE OTHER THAN VIA A DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY. THEY HAVE IGNORED ALL ATTEMPTS TO RESOLVE AND WITHIN 2 MONTHS HAVE ESCALATED WITH ADDITIONAL COSTS.

Used the facility in Edinburgh Fort Kinnaird to store our belongings for several months. No issue with facility but when I came to hand in my 2 week notice, which I did by visiting office I then received a bill for a whole extra month's storage. When I called to ask why no one got back to me. When I phoned again the explanation was that I was my notice date, which was sent out the day after the date I visited, was a day late, so according to company policy I would be charged a full extra month ie I am left paying 5 weeks for empty storgae. Duty manager Jamie was unsympathetic and unwilling to even attempt to rectify the issue. Not impressed.

I gave my 14 day notice of termination as required on 16 October. Did not receive a reply. Called into the office and confirmed that they knew I was giving the unit up on the 1 November.
On the 30 of October a full month’s payment was requested by direct debit, which I cancelled and emailed alerting them of this. Happy to pay any shortfall.
On the 31st my son called to sweep unit and hand back fobs but was refused entry until full payment plus charge of £15 was paid and if not he was threatened with debt collection referral.
Long story short but basically despite speaking to staff and the “ caretaker” manager they insisted it was company policy and they had no leeway!!!
In the end I reluctantly paid and now have the pleasure of an empty unit until 22 November.
Their customer service was appalling and in cases downright rude.
A gesture of goodwill would have been to accept a smaller payment.

I rented a storage unit to store our belongings between moving homes. I was really happy with the customer service to begin with and believed my items were going to be safe and sound whilst stored. I also took out their insurance option for the items stored as they were our special belongings and furniture.
Sadly when we went to collect our items it quickly became apparent that the roof had been leaking above our unit. Many of our items were damaged and a few couldn’t be saved. Luckily our mattress soaked up a lot of the water however some irreplaceable items of furniture and art are now damaged forever.
I approached the staff there to resolve the issue and start the process of claiming for the items. We understood that things do happen and mistakes can be made. Frustratingly the staff member was almost aggressive, no apologies were given and small print started to get read out to us. It was shocking for us to lose so many items that we believed were safely stored and receive absolutely no apology.
At this point we had no option but to pack up our damaged items and head to our new home as it was over 250miles and a ferry away. The staff member kept repeating that if we take any items we couldn’t claim but we had no choice! All while this was happening both of the lifts were inoperable and myself and other customers using the storage facility had to dangerously carry items up and down the stairs.
Since we picked up our items we’ve been trying to claim on the insurance we took out with safestore. The claim is still on going after a very lengthy and unhelpful process. The insurers seem to be more interested in keeping their partnership with safestore rather than representing my interests and claim fairly. We only wished we had taken out independent insurance.
It’s so sad our items were damaged and no responsibility has been taken for it. Be really careful using safestore!

The Safe Store at Fort Kinnaird.
I didn't see the 14 day notice period. No one there tells you that to your face when you rent, it's on the form apparently. The form you've lost :)
Your invoice is dated exactly 14 days before the end of the period you have paid for but it strangely takes several days in the post to arrive, meaning they can charge you for giving them the unit back just after the paid period.
£200 /month for a small room. At Fort Kinnaird that's about £2.5M a year.
I am definitely in the wrong business!
I am off to get my stuff back.
I will accept their terms, but you get the feeling they live off the tricks of the trade. Sending an invoice dated 2 weeks ahead and it takes 4 days to arrive?
Oh well, live and learn.
Hopefully this review will give you the heads up!
The staff are very efficient - they know the script. I can't be the only person to hear "we only have 6 units of 1000 available". Good for them if they do.
