I understand contracts matter, but customer service matters too. I was charged for a full extra month because I gave notice ONE day late. Staff were unhelpful and focused only on the small print rather than common sense or fairness.
Safestore were extremely pleasant when taking my business, but far less so when it came to doing the right thing.
Safestore now has an empty unit they can rent out again, whilst I paid a significant amount for nothing.
Will pay more elsewhere for better service.
Response to Safestore:
Thank you for your response, but I don’t think you’re quite understanding my point. I fully acknowledge and understand the policy and the terms of the contract. What I’m trying to highlight is not a dispute over the rules themselves, but over how rigidly they are applied.
Hiding behind policy and contract language may justify the decision internally, but it doesn’t make it fair or customer-friendly. Perhaps you could include, clearly and upfront when sending invoices, the exact date or number of days by which a customer must give notice to avoid extra charges. Making this information easy to find—on your website or in communications—would help prevent situations like mine.
I’m simply suggesting that your system allow for a small window of flexibility—maybe one to three days—where genuine discrepancies or delays don’t result in a full extra month’s charge. I realise I am just one customer and you are a large company, and little people like me aren’t your priority. But the problem exists because there is far more emphasis on signing up new customers than on helping people end their contracts smoothly. Paragraphs of policy explanations don’t change the fact that, in practice, it’s the small customers who bear the burden.

James and team were always helpful and informative. The facilities were immaculate.
The sign-up and sign-out was an easy process particularly when we had to do everything online as we were based in Australia.
We would definitely return in the future.
