Started the process about a month ago, had some issues with the moving company, and they were more than happy to accommodate the changes for every mix up, the customer service is great everyone is so kind. Sarah is lovely, Natalie has the best knowledge, Jordan is kind and has helped with replacing boxes no additional cost when mine had broken during the move. Even the couriers there are great, they get the job done fast and efficient. I would definitely reccomend using this company, the pricing is fair and they're always happy to help if there's any issues. Honestly fantastic people fantastic company.

SHORT VERSION FOR THOSE IN A HURRY: Safestore will charge you a full additional invoice for a unit you have already emptied and handed back. When you complain, they threaten you with debt collectors. Three years of loyal custom meant nothing.
Read the full story below before you sign anything.
I stored with Safestore Wednesbury for over 3 years and paid every invoice on time without fail. Here is exactly what happened when I decided to leave - dates, facts, nothing more.
The timeline:
• 31/05/2026 - Safestore automatically generated a new invoice for the next billing period, before I had given any notice whatsoever
• 03/06/2026 - I contacted Safestore by email to give written notice to vacate
• 08/06/2026 - I fully emptied the unit, returned the access fob to reception
• 12/06/2026 - end of my already paid period
• 17/06/2026 - end of my full 14-day notice period from the date of my notice
• 24/06/2026 - payment of £317.99 demanded for a unit that had been empty since 08/06/2026
I gave 14 days notice from 03/06, with my notice period running to 17/06. I vacated within my already paid period. The unit was confirmed empty by Safestore's own staff on 08/06. Yet I was billed £317.99 for a period I did not use a single day of, extending all the way to 10/07/2026 - over a month after I had handed back the keys.
Why did this happen?
Because the invoice was generated automatically on 31/05 - three days before I gave notice. That automatic invoice generation, combined with a billing cycle technicality, meant I was locked into paying a full additional period regardless of when I vacated or how promptly I acted. The billing system is designed so that in almost any leaving scenario, an additional full invoice will already be waiting for you.
What this company actually is behind the friendly smile and modern branding:
Safestore presents itself as a flexible, customer-friendly storage solution. What they don't lead with is that their billing system is engineered to extract maximum payment from you at the exact moment you decide to leave - when you are most vulnerable and have no leverage.
The trap:
⚠️ The invoice was generated automatically on 31/05 - before I gave any notice. By the time I contacted them on 03/06, the invoice already existed and they used that as justification to demand full payment for an empty unit.
⚠️ The unit was empty from 08/06. Safestore suffered zero loss. They could re-let it immediately - and very likely did. They charged me £317.99 in full regardless, for a period stretching to 10/07/2026.
⚠️ Three years of loyalty and on-time payments counted for nothing. When I raised this as disproportionate and unfair, the response from the local store was: "there is nothing further that can be actioned."
⚠️ When I escalated to head office with a formal written complaint, rather than engaging with the substance of my concern, they responded with a debt collection threat - pay within 14 days or be referred to debt collectors. A loyal long-term customer, treated like a defaulter over a billing technicality on a unit confirmed empty by their own staff.
⚠️ This is not an accident or an oversight. This is an aggressive, calculated policy hiding behind polite customer service language and a well-designed website. The friendliness is real - right up until the moment you try to leave.
⚠️ They will smile when you arrive. They will threaten you when you go.
This business model is broken
If you are considering signing with Safestore, understand that the exit is not as flexible as the entry. The invoice generation date, your notice date, and their billing cycle can combine against you in ways that result in a full additional charge for a unit you no longer occupy - in my case over a month of charges for an empty room . Read Section 22 of the contract before you sign, model out every possible leaving scenario Ask yourself whether you are comfortable with a company that responds to a genuine dispute with a debt collection threat.
You have been warned.

We arrived at Safestore to find the funding had yet to be approved by the local council, this was a very stressful situation, as without this the man and van were unable to off load. Jordan from Safestore was very understanding, empathetic and supportive, we were there from 2:30-6:30, he made us a drink and actively supported us with clear advice and guidance on what was required and how best to resolve the situation, he was patient and kind and considerate throughout and actively supported us in securing a resolve. We cannot thank him enough, Jordan demonstrated an outstanding example of customer support and service, he is a credit to your company and despite this experience being very difficult it was reassuring to feel supported and shown genuine regard. Thank you Jordan, you are an asset to Safestore.

I couldn’t praise Bob more on his impeccable customer service and attention to detail. I had used the facility a year before and came back for a quote, not only did he remember me but he sorted me out with the same room that I had before! Bob was also extremely efficient in handling the paperwork for me electronically as I was not able to get to the facility! All in all, I would return to the facility based on Bob’s customer service, 10/10 5 star service. Thanks @Bob Safestore Wednesbury!! Sadé Challender
