We enrolled our children at Școala…
We enrolled our children at Școala Germană Hermann Oberth because it presents itself as a German school. Unfortunately, our experience has not matched that expectation. Our children moved to Romania with strong/native German skills, and over time we observed a noticeable decline in their German rather than progress.
From the beginning, we were concerned about the quality of spoken German in the classroom. The class teacher’s German was often incorrect, and after some time the results became clear: our children’s German got worse.
What also surprised us is that in our interactions, none of the managers/directors we met were able to communicate in German at all, which feels inconsistent with the school’s positioning as a German school and makes it hard to trust the language standards and oversight.
In addition, we found communication and professionalism inconsistent. Some interactions with teachers and management felt rude and dismissive, which made constructive parent–school collaboration difficult.
If you are considering this school primarily for German-language education, I strongly recommend asking for a trial lesson, speaking directly with the class teacher in German, and requesting clear information about language proficiency and teacher qualifications before enrolling.
