After several years with a subscription with Scribd, Everand and some other platform, I am canceling my subscription. Such tiers plans is gouging on top of the regular monthly subscription. That's $24 bucks a month times 12. $288 annually. I can find better deals outside the platform. Highly disappointment. I expect increases in subscription over time, as expenses do occur. This tier is a leap for mankind. I must bounce.

Scribd has overcharged me for several years due to internal billing errors and refuses to issue a refund, despite acknowledging the mistake. Instead, they offered me six months of free service which is something I do not want or consider fair. I have calculated that I was overcharged by at least $138.21 CAD, and I am requesting that Scribd reimburse me this amount.
Eventually, without any changes from my side, Scribd began charging me in EUR, even though my billing information remained Canadian. From November 2019 to February 2020, I was charged in EUR. From March 2020 to April 2022, I was charged in USD. From May 2022 to 2025, I was charged in EUR. Throughout this period, I never changed my location or billing location (it always remained the same), and had no reason to expect these unauthorised currency switches. I contacted Scribd’s customer support multiple times. Eventually, a support representative acknowledged that the problem was caused by an internal error. When I asked for a refund, they said they were "unable to issue partial refunds" and offered me six months of free service instead, which I explicitly declined. I repeatedly requested escalation to someone with refund authority but they insisted there was no one with the ability to approve a reimbursement. How can a company overcharge you and not be able to send your money back? Absolute scam!

After they took the money from my account without sending me an email to intend that the Free trial would expire soon, they didn't even send me a payment confirmation email, I just found in the bank account that an amount of money was taken from it by them. After I wrote to them by email that I want the money to be returned to me, they did not answer me back.

Do NOT……I repeat do NOT go anywhere near this scam company.
Even with a free trial they’ll start charging your card monthly and when you take this up with them they’ll claim they’ve no record of you’re subscription so can’t refund or cancel it.
You’ve been warned.

Initial review 11-11-2025 - 1 star:
I resumed my subscription a couple of days ago ( Nov 7th ). Money payed, gone from my account ( I have also the receipt on their name ), but the subscription hasn't been resumed ( same red banner with "Your subscription expired" ).
I reached out the AI robot in the live chat. Useless, of course. I requested to talk to a normal person. The AI said it will create a ticket in order for humans to focus their attention on me. Yep, I received an email, but with a standard text, without the ticket number.
After about three days ( yesterday ) I engaged the useless AI one more time. Same story, same standard email without the ticket number. Nobody with a human behavior ever focused on me from their side.
So basically they charged me automatically without offering the service for which I has been charged. In my agenda, this is the textbook definition of SCAM!
Stay away from them, you don't want to be also scammed. Scamming me it's enough!
Update 12-11-2025 after reply from scribd - 1 star:
Yep, you replied very nice, but what you ignore ( with or without good will ) is that the informations requested by you are already there. I filled the first ticket #6636882 in 07-11 ( closed by you without any resolution ) and second ticket #6642765 in 10-11. The email can be easily seen in the account info associated with the requests, and also I attached the payment statement in the second ticket. So yeah, you replied nicely, but without backing it up with the corresponding actions. My conclusion stays the same for now ....
Update 25-11-2025 after resolution from scribd - 5 stars:
I can confirm that the ( human ) support team has explained to me that there was a gap in the payment processing and also solved my ticket by returning back the failed payment. So I felt that there is a human presence there which cares about my problems. Even if I'm keen in highlighting the bad aspects, I'm also keen in rewarding the real good work. I relaunched my sub with scribd as I find their service useful for me. I also updated the rating of this review.

This company is just a regular scam.
Cancelling the subscription was simply hell.

Terrible support in that the only function available is to log a case, no one gets back to you, can log as many cases as you want, AI Bot takes you no where and impossible to speak with a human. Avoid at all costs

This website has tons of user-uploaded PDFs, but if you want to download them, it just ask you to pay. If you want to download for free, it lets you upload five documents in exchange for one free download.

STEALING MY WORK AND MAKING MONEY OFF ME. This website has many of my PDF patterns illegally up on the website making stolen money off my hard work. I have emailed about taking them down as my work is copyrighted so it is illegal but they will not reply. I have also seen many other artists work stolen on this website. This website needs to be SHUT DOWN. They steal and make money off small businesses.

Utterly rubbish
The book I wanted was advertised as being on the platform
I wanted to look at it before I considered to buy it - the book was in three times in all copies there was only the first chapter and then 100 blank pages or a completely different book in German
Really disappointed
