We have stayed at Far North Cottage numerous times, and each visit manages to be even more restorative than the last.
For us, the draw is the perfect harmony of rugged isolation and high-end comfort. Standing at the northernmost tip of the UK, the cottage feels like a private sanctuary at the edge of the world. Whether we are watching the dramatic weather roll in over the Pentland Firth or enjoying a rare, crystal-clear Highland sunset, the views never get old.
The cottage itself is impeccably maintained—the owners clearly take immense pride in the property. After a day of exploring nearby Brough Bay to see the seals or hiking the cliffs of John O’Groats, retreating to the private sauna and Jacuzzi bath is the ultimate luxury. Even during the wildest gales, the cottage remains incredibly warm, quiet, and cozy.

If you are looking for a base to explore the North Coast or simply a place to disconnect from the noise of modern life, Far North Cottage is unbeatable. We’ve already lost count of our stays here, and yet we are already planning our next return for 2026. A true 5-star gem in the Highlands."

A real gem of a property in the Scottish Highlands with amazing views from the hot tub! Spotlessly clean and very well equipped

For the first time ever,my wife and I decided to take a complete break from the 'normal' type of holiday,and decided to book a week away with self catering Scotland,and can honestly say that it was a very nice experience,that - despite this being self catering in a cottage in the Highlands - the tranquility was brilliant. The cottage had everything that we needed,and was very snug,so ticked all the boxes! Will definitely look to book with this company again.

Stayed in a platinum caravan in hunter's quay Dunoon. The site itself is very good. Unfortunately cleanliness of caravan was poor. Stained sheet on bed, lampshades, shelves and radiators in bathrooms covered in dust, draining board for dishes was filthy!! Left a complaint at reception , haven't had a reply. Management obviously not interested 😔

I have used self catering Scotland a few times now and friendly, efficient service. All the cottages I have stayed in have been fabulous and in stunning locations . Highly recommend

I have been with this company for over 8 years and have not had one problem, and will keep returning to this company for my holidays

Filthy .. had to clean first day
Hot tub broken for the whole stay

Terrible experience . Owner could have told truth instead of pretending it would be fixed.
Stayed there before and was amazing but sadly this time was horrific. Also came back to the handyman sitting in the cottage when we had went out for the day.

We have booked with this company many times over the years for both lodges and cottages in many locations and always found them efficient, courteous, good value and welcoming. It is the first place we go to when thinking of a self catering break.

Very disappointed with this company’s customer service. My husband and I booked a holiday we were very much looking forward to with our little dog. She sadly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly over New Year and in our grief we decided we couldn’t cope with going on this holiday without her.

We understand losing our deposit, although it has to be said, the 2 other companies we also booked through to stay at on the way up to Scotland and the way back did in fact offer us to use our deposit for an alternative holiday later in the year once we felt up to it. But losing a proportion of what we paid towards using a hot tub, which we paid for and then cancelled well in advance that we obviously will now not use is disgusting.

Very poor customer service and will not be rebooking with this company in the future. They should take a leaf out of other holiday companies books and show some compassion and better customer service.

Booked with this company in 2020 and had a wonderful holiday.
As a result booked with them again for this year, but due to Covid issues we had to cancel. :(
The reason for this review is because of regardless of the good or bad issues, the way in which the company dealt with us was nothing short of professional perfection.
They lived up to every promise they made, and we shall return in the future because of this, GUARANTEED !
