The Highland Hotel Strathpeffer holds a certain charm linking back to the Victorian era. A sweeping staircase with beautiful stained glass windows pleading down to a baronial sized lounge and reception wood panels on all the walls. The dining room is equally well decorated and the food is good with generous portions and the service is excellent. The bedrooms on the third floor had all very recently been decorated and the view from our window overlooking the delightful little spa town and nearby Ben Wyvis was a bonus. However the mattresses on the beds are tired and about ready to be replaced. Coffee tea and milk are supplied and more can be had from the reception desk. This was the third time I had stayed at the Highland Hotel which says it all.

Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review of your stay at the Highland Hotel, Strathpeffer.

I’m so pleased you enjoyed the hotel’s Victorian charm — the sweeping staircase, stained-glass windows, and wood-panelled lounge really do make it a special place to stay. It’s lovely to hear that y
ou also enjoyed the dining experience, with good food, generous portions, and friendly service.

I’m glad your recently decorated room on the third floor met your expectations and that you were able to take in those beautiful views over the spa town and towards Ben Wyvis. I really appreciate your feedback about the mattresses — I’ll make sure this is looked into as part of our regular room checks.

It means a lot to know this was your third visit — that really does say it all! I hope to welcome you back again soon for another enjoyable stay.

Warm regards,

This was my 3rd visit to this hotel. It is still in an excellent location where peace and quiet reign. There is a lot of renovation going on, but it does not affect the overall holiday experience. The staff are friendly, attentive and efficient.

The staff we met were all courteous and two went beyond expectation on friendliness and help about the local area. The food was good with plenty options and good vegan alternatives. The reason we gave such a low score was because of hygiene issues re no change of towel after one day on a four day stay and no collection of used towels either - a very poor do - and part of bath was black as was the shower curtain though this looked as if it had been washed but had engrained dye perhaps - the curtain should have been thrown away and a bath can be cleaned using bleach but the build up of dirt showing on bath implied no cleaning for a long time. Sadly we shall not return despite the strengths in food and from staff we met.

A beautiful hotel at which we have stayed every year for in excess of ten years. However since Covid prices have increased a lot whilst food has deteriorated. Breakfast was uninspiring, the hot table offering scrambled eggs on asking about alternative ways they might be cooked we were told that it was not company policy to offer alternatives, Dinner menu offers a three course meal with only four options for each course one of which is vegetarian whilst the others are mostly either spicy or coated in spicy sauces this applies to both starters and mains. Even the soup was affected. The sweets consisted of the same four options, Something warm with custard, A slice of supermarket type cake, Fruit salad ( little more than melon chunks ) with ice cream or two scoops of ice cream . We were far from the only ones grumbling. I was personally afflicted with severe heartburn and indigestion for the entire week.

We found the staff very helpful especially after there was a mix up with the facilities in one room for 3 people and we were untimately offered 2 rooms for 2 and for 1 person. The receptionist dealt with this very efficiently and effectively. We had to complain about the food. The vegetables were almost cold to luke warm. Some of the meat/main veggie items were slightly warmer. We were given vouchers for free drinks for all our party of 9. The food was hotter the next evening!! Overall not as satisfying as previous weekend breaks we have booked with Shearings hotels.
