It was the worst food ever. Staff were lovely

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, but staying 7 nights we found the evening menu repetitive and limited, some nights cooked better than others. the number of waiting staff varied for no obvious reason ,finding them seriously understaffed at times. to have 1member of staff serving bar drinks in the bar and restaurant would have simplified the service better

The hotel was in a perfect location with views over the harbour and town. The staff were friendly and always helpful. The room was clean and spacious and had a table and chairs. Food was good.

Staff and service excellent with food very good. Good value for the price with views from hotel picturesque. Some nice places to drive such as Mull of Galloway and Castle Culzean.

Having just returned from the Portpatrick Hotel after a highly traumatic experience, I write to inform you of my disgust at the treatment I received. At around 23:45 hrs, my wife and I were awoken by a very loud fire alarm. All very well; these things happen and are there for safety reasons. What follows is a downright violation of safety protocols. As an elderly disabled person, I was left stranded on the 2nd floor in room 201, whilst every non-disabled person was outside the hotel, safe from any pending fire. There was no contact from the staff at the hotel, and there is no EVAC chair on any of the floors in the hotel. I understand the legal minimum requirement is one EVAC chair per floor; this hotel has none on any floor, so it is in breach of fire regulations to start with, and as you are the agents, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the safety of your guests. I called the emergency services 999 for help to be evacuated, and they responded with the arrival of a fire tender. All this was done while the only staff member was searching for the cause of the alarm instead of prioritising the safety of people trapped in the hotel. The whole incident caused widespread panic within the hotel, with me experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, chest pains and hyperventilation. My wife managed to calm me down after a while, along with an increase in medication and a CPAP machine that increases breathing to a regular level. This incident was potentially fatal not just for me but for others as well. The alarm's cause is unknown now, but the effects are. As a result, I complain that health and safety protocols were not followed, and endangerment to life is the responsibility of all, including you as the agent. Here is the relevant legislation:- It is now a legal requirement for all business and public premises to offer all staff and visitors the chance of a safe escape in the event of an emergency. The Equality Act 2010 states “no person, or persons, may be discriminated against because they suffer from a disability”. Failure to comply may result in the business owner being held to account and heavy fines can be issued. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 may be of further interest to you.

Staff friendly but need training in addressing clients. “You Guys” is not always appropriate with an older client base! Hotel is old , but has been recently redecorated. Clean and tasteful colours and decoration. Lack of ventilation in the rooms will be a problem in hot weather, since windows have been painted with no possibility of being opened. Food was acceptable standard but menu could be varied more frequently. Summarising, enjoyed our stay.

Staff great. Organisation could be improved. Staying 4 nights would have liked a bit more variation on Dinner menu.

A most unusual location! 100 feet up on a cliff overlooking the most picturesque harbour I have seen in years. The hotel manager was very approachable and I had many chats with him. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was any trouble. An excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. A trip to the Mill of Galloway is a must, being the most southerly point in Scotland.

This is our third time at the Portpatrick, again excellent location exceptional views ideal for coastal walks and travel further afield. Wonderful food with excellent choice and very friendly staff. Although the hotel offers dog friendly there is a separate area for meal times which I think is a good idea.

The hotel was situated in an amazing place overlooking the bay but its bedrooms are in need of a spruce up. They were clean but had plumbing issues. The hot water tap was constantly running into the sink, the toilet was difficult to flush and the shower had no water pressure.

Beautiful, old hotel in a fantastic location above the harbour. The room was clean and spacious. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent, buffet breakfast at the weekend, table service weekdays. The young staff were friendly, efficient and professional throughout our stay. Portpatrick is a great place to use as a base to explore the surrounding area by car, or you can take a walk along the coastal path and see the flora and fauna of the area.
