Dated. Food poor. It is an expensive area so cost was as expected. But main course of sausage and mash???? Pushing it at 3 star quality. Staff are great. Position and dining room views are exceptional. Let down by lack of upgrading and maintenance- even the toilet sink was cracked and had a silicon repair!

A self drive break that was very good value for money. We had stayed there before so when booking we felt sure all would be great. Car parking is good value - just £20 for three days. If Shearings mentioned the good parking at a reasonable price this might draw more customers.

Dear Mr Symons,

Thank you for your kind 4-star review.

We're pleased to hear that you had a great time during your self-drive break at the Ship and Castle Hotel and that the value for money met your expectations. It's also great to know that the convenient and affordable car parking helped enhance
your stay.

We appreciate your feedback about highlighting the car parking options more prominently, it's a great suggestion and one we will certainly consider.

We hope to welcome you back for another break soon.

Dear Mr Smith,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

We're sorry to hear that aspects of your stay at the Ship and Castle Hotel did not meet your expectations. While the provision of entertainment is managed directly by the hotel, we understand how the absence of it, along with the
other points you mentioned, may have affected your overall experience.

Your comments regarding the food and facilities have been shared with the our hotel partners, as customer feedback plays a key role in helping them improve. We do hope you were still able to enjoy the charm of St Mawes and that we may welcome you on another Shearings break in the future.

The room we were allocated was barely large enough to accommodate one let alone two. It was designed as a double but had single beds which meant that the bedside lights hung over the beds. The windows and their frames were filthy and one pane was cracked and repaired with glue. The shower door was obviously designed for the super slim fit young person as it was barely more than 12 to 14 inches wide. There were no grab handles so entering and leaving the shower was not only difficult but also hazardous. The food menu was repeated after only three days so we had the same choices twice in our one week stay. One meal consisted of chicken in bead crumbs but the chicken was little more than the thickness of a rasher of bacon. In the wisdom of a senior member of staff the breakfast buffet was removed from a spacious area to a smaller area so patrons were falling all over each other. The Ship and Castle public area is very nice but the service provided falls very short in standards befitting such a lovely location.

Hotel and Staff all very pleasant. The new decorations was much appreciated and made the hotel more welcoming. One observation was that the Breakfast menu was not very exciting. And we put this down to overall costs.

Varied choice of meals the only comment is they did a four day menu and we was there for seven days so the meals started to repeat themselves. Hotel was clean and the staff was all very good and friendly.

We had a nice holiday we were very lucky with the weather. Its a shame there's no entertainment but there was noone really there. The bar was empty and it shut at 10 so very quiet. But the food was OK and the breakfast especially was nice. We have been several times to St Mawes and its lovely 😍

The hotel is aShearings hotel only. It had a very shabby appearance and the staff were not very helpful or friendly. The bedroom we had was at the back of the hotel and we paid the same amount as our friends did. They had a front room with gorgeous views of the sea and St Mawes whereas we were looking into windows of surrounding houses. The wallpaper was falling off the walls, had a disgusting sickly paint smell even with the window open, the shower dribbled water and the room was not cleaned every day. The window was green with mould. It was quite a walk from the lift so anyone with walking difficulties would find it hard. I do have walking difficulties but the hotel chose to ignore this. The dining room faced the sea but that is the only good point. Meals were terrible with a choiceof4 starters, 4 mains and 4 deserts. Not once were we able to find a 3 course meal and even had to eat out one day as there was nothing we would eat. The chef must have been in his element as all the food was ready prepared and just heated up. The vegetables were always raw and if you like red cabbage that was served 3 days running . No food was hot and roast pork chop was definitely not roasted and looked more like it had been cooked in water with a very pale colour. Impossible to cut with a knife let alone eat. One day mushroom soup was served, it was black and looked disgusting . Didn’t even try this. In every course on every day all you could see was plate loads of food being returned to kitchen as it was just simply awful. Breakfast was a free for all and we were self drive holiday but there was also a coach tour staying at the same time. These people thought they could push in and have breakfast before us. There was scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, hash brown, beans and tinned tomatoes all of which were lukewarm. The bacon and sausages were sitting in a pool of fat each day. The other thing to be aware of although St Mawes was a very picturesque scenic village it is off the beaten track. It was approximately 15 miles from the main road down narrow winding lanes and took at least 30 minutes once leaving the main road, so any trip out you wanted to do you had to allow this time before starting your journey to places of interest. There is no parking at this hotel, the car park about 5 minutes away so again anyone disabled or with walking difficulties would find it hard. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room very disappointing - small and noisy.. Only view was of people at The Victoria pub. On thez whole staff were unprofessional and unhelpful. Food disappointing but became adequate after Wednesday. We were at The Ship and Castle with a coach party some of whom had booked for Newquay. As a result the numbers of people in the dining room was too great for the number of staff trying to serve.
