Thoroughly enjoyed the holiday to Orkney. We were well looked after and the hotels were very comfortable. In all couldn’t fault anything.

A really good holiday excursion, we saw and covered vast amounts of Scottish countryside and were extremely well looked after by our driver and guest guides. It wasn't a particularly relaxing week, involving long days of coach travel and early morning starts, we wouldn't have seen so much otherwise though. My suggestion would be to make it a 9 or 10 day holiday allowing a less hectic pace, bit understand the cost/price would reflect that fact.

Great way to see the sites of Orkney, which was what was achieved. Fantastic driver, but oh what a never ending Journey. Holiday felt very rushed. I accept it’s a long way to travel, but up at 4.30 am to catch the Ferry and two days of 9 hours on a not very comfortable coach. The trip needs to be 10 days so we can at least see something. We arrived in Newcastle at 7.45 pm and straight into dinner at 8pm. Great trip, but too pressurised to enjoy. It’s taken me two days to recover.

Excellent driver Adrian of Red Rose Travel. Overnight hotels RobRoy and Castlecary good with enjoyable meals. Pentland hotel in Thurso comfortable and good meals. Stromness hotel in Stromness, Orkney NOT suitable for the age group of the passengers on the tour. We were advised there were 25 steps to Reception and a further 25 steps to the bedrooms. However there were 31 steps to Reception and another 49 steps to the bedrooms. We were told dinner was at 6pm but no food was served until 7pm and it was a set menu with no choices. This NOT acceptable. The staff seemed to be untrained but they tried to be helpful and arranged for us to have a choice of two options for each course. The hotel in Kirkwall where we went for lunch would have been a much better hotel to stay at for our visit.

Generally the holiday was very good, however the choice of hotels was disappointing, in particular the Stromness Hotel on Orkney. No lift and 84 steps to our room! The plumbing left a lot to be desired, the shower operating on two settings, freeze or scald. Whilst the staff over compensated in their efforts to please, the management of mealtimes was haphazard. The rooms smelt damp and foisty and the hotel is clearly in need of tlc. The excursions were very good, particularly the guided Orkney tour which was informative, very interesting and well organised. The Orkney isles are well worth visiting and I would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in ancient history, but with a different mainstay hotel.
