Don't Buy from Shinywing
Important: Read before buying anything from Shinywing.
I ordered a pair of JMS upgraded front speakers for my ’03 GL1800 on 24th May. £100.38. They arrived way outside of the delivery time and only after chasing up. I installed them, and they were worse than the originals. I contacted Paul at Shinywing, not to complain but just to give him some feedback. I said:
“I thought I'd share a bit of feedback with you on the speakers – they are really not good at all. They sound only slightly louder than the original ones but that's only when you have the bass turned right down and the treble right up. The sound quality is awful - harsh, tinny and
not rounded at all. At a decent volume, the treble just cuts out when there's a bass note. The base is muddy and thumping. I know this isn't your fault, but it may be worth considering whether or not you should stock them.”
Paul replied: “Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you are not happy with the speakers. We have sold quiet (sic) a few of them and it's the first time we got a complaint about them. Could you send them back to me as I have passed your email onto J&M and waiting for a reply from then and I would think they may want me to return them. What model of bike do you have and where are you putting the speakers and I will see if I have some other speaker that I could send to you?”
I thought he sounded like a reasonable guy (I WAS WRONG!) and as the quality wasn’t his fault, I let him know that I’d just live with them. However, one of them stopped working at the end of July. I took them out and swapped them over to check if it was the speaker or the audio system at fault. It turned out to be the speaker.
After leaving around 10 messages for him with no response, I emailed him on 18 August telling him one was broken, letting him know I’d like to take him up on his offer of different ones and asking for his returns address. I even said I’d be happy to pay a bit more for a better product.
By 4th September I had had no response, so I emailed him again. I also left 3 or 4 more messages. No response.
On 24th September I called from a different number and he actually answered the phone. When I said I’d been trying to get hold of him, he replied “Well you’re talking to me now”. He asked me to send them back and said he would have new ones to me by the following Thursday 4th October.
I posed the faulty ones back on 25th September and they were delivered on 28th September. Needless to say, the replacements haven’t yet arrived.
By 13th October I had left around 12 messages and so emailed him again, letting him know that I had run out of patience and was irritated at being ignored. I requested a rapid response saying I no longer wanted the speakers and to refund me by 19th October. No response.
On 16th October I sent a final email, advising him that what he was doing constitutes fraud and he had both the speakers and my money. I reiterated my demand that he refund me by 19 October. I also advised that if it wasn’t resolved by 19th October, I would take the steps available to me to recover the money and also post reviews.
It’s now 22nd October - no response and no refund. So, this is my review.
This individual is a fraud and a charlatan. Caveat emptor - You buy from him at your own risk.
