Really reliable company, amazing package protection!

Hi! I used ShipByMail’s services to buy a pair of Steve Madden boots and have them shipped to Spain (where I’m from!), and needless to say, their customer service is amazing!

Their website is really easy to understand, and they keep you updated on the status of your package at all times. I didn’t have any issues with the additional services; in fact, I think they offer quite good extra services at a very reasonable price.

That said, it’s true that when you email them, they tend to respond after 3–4 days rather than within the 24 hours they mention. But apart from that, I’m really happy with how they handled my package. It arrived in one piece and didn’t take as long as I expected—just a little over a week!

What can be pricey is the shipping company you choose. For example, I chose DHL because they’re great with international shipping. Aside from that, I think it’s a really good deal and a very reliable company overall.

Emma was the one who prepared my package, so if you’re reading this: you did an amazing job! So many layers of wrapping, haha. I think Emma’s effort to protect my Steve Madden boots with endless bubble wrap really did the trick, that extra protection for shipping that I paid for was taken really seriously haha. Thank you, Emma :)

Simple and Easy! a little pricey? maybe i'm a bad estimator

simple and easy to follow instructions. good communication. quick turnaround time to getting forwarding tracking number

I ended up paying more than I expected for the forwarding delivery service. I thought I used the pricing calculator on their website and I felt like the estimate was lower than what I ended up paying ($97 USD to forward a pair of sneakers from Canada to Seattle). They provide me with the final cost once they receive the item (which makes sense to me), and at that point, I felt obliged to pay it, but I'll take the blame for this as I may've underestimated package weight or something.

It might be nice to have a guarantee on cost before making the retail purchase, but idk if that's feasible from a business perspective.

Great service! would use again

Answered all my questions

Answered all my questions! Will be placing my order today and hoping for a 5 star experience. The items are out of stock so it will be a few weeks before they can be forwarded. Ship By Mail said that was perfectly fine.

Overcharged for “consolidation,” illogical customs fees, no shipping choice, and weeks of inactionI do not recommend this service.

I do not recommend this service.

According to tracking, my packages were delivered to ShipByMail on January 2. I ordered one cardigan and one skirt, which arrived as two separate shipments. I requested consolidation into one compact box to reduce shipping costs.

On January 28, ShipByMail issued Invoice ERL#1672 for $153.27 USD, which is excessive considering the total merchandise value was approximately $110 USD.

The invoice included:

Inbound shipment fees: $9.98

Consolidation fee: $9.98

UPS 5 Day shipping: $76.89 (1 kg chargeable weight)

“Customs and Processing Fees”: $56.42

Despite charging a consolidation fee, no real consolidation was performed. Instead of repacking the two clothing items into one smaller box, the two incoming packages were simply placed together into a larger outer box, increasing dimensional weight and shipping cost. This completely defeats the purpose of consolidation.

Is a customer really expected to explain to a logistics company how proper, cost-efficient repacking should be done?

I clearly explained that to reduce shipping costs, the items must be removed from their incoming packages and packed together into one compact box. ShipByMail confirmed on January 28 that this could be done. Since then — no action and no response.

The customs charge is completely illogical. The declared value of the goods was approximately $110 USD, yet I was charged $56.42 for “Customs and Processing Fees” — more than 50% of the item value.
At the time this fee was charged, the items had not been shipped and were still being held, as my shipment had not been processed or dispatched. No explanation, breakdown, or official customs documentation was provided to justify such an excessive amount.

Pricing overall is not transparent. My items were delayed due to a lack of action on ShipByMail’s side, not by my choice. I repeatedly requested status updates and timelines, but had no ability to influence or speed up the process. No clear itemized breakdown was provided to explain what the charges actually represent.

I was also not given any choice of shipping method. Despite already waiting over a month for my items due to delays on their side, ShipByMail selected UPS 5 Day shipping, one of the most expensive options, without my approval. It is illogical to force a customer to pay for express delivery after weeks of delay, without offering slower and more affordable alternatives.

At this point, my property is being held without clear explanation or progress.

Unprofessional, non-transparent, and inefficient service.

Good experience. Would use again.

I had a good experience getting a package from a Canadian retailer who would not ship to my US address. The process went as described and expected, and Shipbymail kept me updated. The cost of tariffs was horrifying, but that's no one's fault. I would use Shipbymail again.

No replies from SHIPBYMAIL - edited, update

I am hopeful to increase my rating to 5 stars, however, they are unresponsive. I have emailed them and called them daily for assistance with my package over the last two weeks, and have not heard back. I wanted to be proactive to use the coupon for my first order, but it has an expiration date (today), and no one has responded to me to assist in correcting the issue. I hope they are able to figure out this issue, as it seems like it has the possibility of being an excellent service if only they had prompt response times. I hope my package arrives safely, as this process to order and ship internationally is an investment.

Edit: they responded to my email 1/09, assisted me with the discount, and recently provided tracking information. They have been responsive, and I appreciate that. I will report back once my package arrives - as of right now, it is still in transit.

Hidden fees and zero flexibility—Shipping cost more than the product

My first experience with ShipByMail (SBM) was a financial nightmare. I purchased two pairs of Canadian-made running shoes (Norda) for CAD$300. What followed was a series of excessive charges and a complete lack of transparency or flexibility.

- The Costs: After an initial shipping quote of CAD$132.08 to the US, I was hit with a surprise second invoice for CAD$182.20 in "Brokerage Charges" and tariffs. Total shipping cost: $314.28—more than the shoes themselves.

- Logistics Inflexibility: With plenty of former experiences in the logistics industry, I suggested shipping the items "In Transit" to my final destination (Panama) to avoid US tariffs. SBM refused. I even offered to have a third-party courier pick up the items to lower costs; SBM refused this as well.

- Comparison: I recently shipped a $5k order from another Canadian vendor (Safe Living Tech) that was larger and heavier. They used FedEx Economy and CUSMA documentation to ship for just $30 USD. SBM claimed they cannot support CUSMA claims (even though the shoes were Canadian-made) or FedEx Economy, forcing me into the most expensive brackets.

- The "Hostage" Situation: When I asked to return the items to the original seller, SBM demanded CAD$128.10 for a return that originally cost $7.00 (The Last Hunt Store to Shipbymali). Most frustratingly, they removed the "Courier Economy" option (4–8 days) that was initially available, leaving me no choice but to pay double for a "Courier Express" (3–5 days) option I didn't want.

Summary: Once they have your package, you are trapped. You either pay their exorbitant, unoptimized rates or lose your money. Save yourself the headache and use a logistics partner that is transparent about fees and offers the basic flexibility a modern shipping company should provide.

"Update Jan 21, 2026:

It has been 10 days since ShipByMail’s public response, and I have yet to hear from anyone at the company. While their reply here sounds professional, the lack of private follow-up confirms that this was a PR-focused response rather than a sincere attempt to 'make things right.'

A few facts to clarify for future customers:

Misleading Advertising: ShipByMail’s motto claims they are 'Canada’s Affordable Global Express Parcel Forwarder.' In reality, I paid over $314 in shipping and fees for a $300 product. There is nothing 'affordable' about unoptimized rates and rigid policies.

Lack of Guidance: Regarding the return to 'The Last Hunt,' SBM simply asked me to provide a return label—something a standard consumer does not have the tools or experience to create. They never explained that I could or should request one from the original merchant. As the logistics experts, they failed to provide even basic guidance, then used that lack of documentation to justify charging me an exorbitant domestic return fee.

Inaction: SBM does not need my 'permission' to reach out. They have my contact information and the authority to offer a concrete proposal or a refund for the unoptimized fees.

Until actions match their words, my rating remains a 1-star. I strongly advise others to look for more transparent and flexible alternatives."

Dear Jorge,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. I am genuinely sorry that your first interaction with ShipByMail was a frustrating one. That is never the experience we want any customer to have.

At ShipByMail, our staff treats every shipment as if it were our own. Even when a situation does not go as planned, our goal is always that customers never feel trapped, helpless, or unheard. I regret that this was not how things felt in your case.

I would like to clarify a few points, not to dispute your experience, but to provide context around how our services operate.

You are correct that we do not offer “in-transit” shipping via the United States to a third country, nor is this a service we have offered in the past or plan to introduce in the future. As a matter of policy and risk management, we ship parcels directly from Canada to the customer’s destination country or to the customer’s verified address.

At the time you spoke with our customer service manager, the two options available were:

1. shipping the items directly to your destination country, or

2. returning the items to the original merchant.

Regarding the return, ShipByMail does not have negotiated domestic courier rates within Canada. We asked you whether the merchant (The Last Hunt) could provide a prepaid return label, which would have avoided additional costs. Unfortunately, a return label was not available, which meant we had to purchase the return shipment ourselves. Domestic returns are not a core part of our business model and are significantly more labor-intensive for us than outbound international forwarding, which is why they can appear disproportionately expensive.

With respect to the “Courier Economy” option, there may have been some confusion. That service applies only to outbound international shipments from Canada and is not available for domestic Canadian returns. It is also subject to service and weight limitations and would not apply in a return scenario.

We fully acknowledge that the overall cost outcome was disappointing, and I am truly sorry for that. While duties, brokerage fees, and courier pricing are largely outside of our direct control, we understand how upsetting it is when the total cost exceeds expectations.

Despite this experience, we do not want to lose you as a customer, nor do we want your final impression of ShipByMail to be a negative one. If you are open to it, we would welcome the opportunity for our support team to reconnect with you and see if there is a way to resolve this amicably and make things right.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. It is taken seriously, and it helps us improve.

Kind regards,
ShipByMail Team

A great first experience with Shipbymail

I recently used Shipbymail for the first time, for a 'buy for me' purchase and international shipment.
I was extremely pleased with their service right through the entire process, from submitting my initial request to receiving my package.
I was very pleased that it was a very smooth transaction, and that I was kept informed at key stages of the process, which gave me peace of mind.
I liked the opportunity to add additional services, such as inspection and photos of my purchase prior to shipping.
I would not have any hesitation in recommending them

! misleading dimensional weight charges

This is not defamation — it is the truth. Trustpilot, I am willing to provide all the emails and proof I have.
ShipByMail is trying to erase my comment so nobody knows how they inflate package weights. They refunded the extra money I paid for their inflated, incorrect weight and then asked me to change my review, claiming it was a mistake. I have proof it wasn’t a mistake. I have all the emails showing how they tried to gaslight me until I threatened to take further action.

I want to share my experience so others can avoid the same problem. I used ShipByMail to forward a jacket whose actual weight, confirmed independently by UPS, was approximately 0.9 kg. Despite this, ShipByMail initially claimed that the package weighed 10 kg based on dimensional weight. This number was completely inconsistent with the size of the item.

After several emails, they offered to repackage the item into a smaller box “to help reduce the cost.” However, even after repackaging, ShipByMail declared a new dimensional weight of 7.83 kg, and I was charged accordingly.

When the package arrived at my home, the reality was very different.
The actual delivered weight was 1.58 kg, and the box measured 44 cm × 34 cm × 12 cm.

Using ShipByMail’s own publicly stated formula for dimensional weight:

Dimensional Weight (kg) = Length × Width × Height / 5,000
→ 44 × 34 × 12 = 17,952
→ 17,952 ÷ 5,000 = 3.59 kg

Even according to their own method, the correct dimensional weight should have been 3.59 kg, not 7.83 kg, and definitely not 10 kg.

This is not a small discrepancy.
This is a pattern of inflated and inconsistent measurements that resulted in significant overcharging.

Hi Martha/Dariela,

We take accuracy and transparency very seriously, so we would like to clarify the situation for future readers.

First, international shipments are billed based on whichever is greater: actual weight or dimensional (voletric) weight, in accordance with global air freight standards used by all major carriers (UPS, DHL, FedEx, etc.). This is not unique to ShipByMail.

When your Canada Goose jacket originally arrived at our warehouse, it was in its full branded retail packaging. Canada Goose packaging is structurally large and presentation-focused, which resulted in a high dimensional weight calculation at intake.

At your request, we removed the original retail box and repacked the jacket into a significantly smaller carton to reduce shipping costs. After repacking, the system initially reflected the pre-repack dimensions. Once this was brought to our attention, we corrected the measurements and issued a refund based on the updated size.

Regarding the dimensional weight calculation referenced in your review:

Different carriers and service levels apply different volumetric divisors (e.g., 5,000 or 6,000 cm³ depending on the lane and carrier). The divisor used depends on the specific international service selected. The 7.83 kg figure reflected the applicable carrier formula at the time of booking.

Additionally, minor dimensional variances can occur depending on how a box is measured (outer edge vs. rounded edge, bulging points, compression, etc.). Carriers always reserve the right to re-measure and re-bill based on their own equipment.

To be clear:

• Your package was repacked per your instruction.
• The dimensional weight was recalculated.
• A refund was issued after review.
• The item was delivered successfully.

We categorically reject the allegation of fraud. We operate under published terms and international carrier billing rules that apply industry-wide.

We remain committed to transparency and encourage customers to review our FAQ section, where dimensional weight is explained in detail.
