Satchel One is the digital equivalent to PAIN

Satchel One is the digital equivalent of a teacher jumping out from behind a door yelling, “SURPRISE! MORE HOMEWORK.” I open the app and instantly regret every life choice that led me to this moment. It’s like Satchel waits until I’m finally relaxed and then drops 14 assignments on me like it’s hosting the Homework Olympics.

The notifications are the worst.
Satchel One: You have a new task.
Me: “No I don’t.”
Satchel One: Yes you do.
Me: “Please stop.”
Satchel One: Due tomorrow.
Me: emotionally collapses

And the layout? It’s like Satchel One is trying to make sure I never find the one assignment I actually need. I click one thing and suddenly I’m in a completely different subject, staring at a task from 2021 that I definitely did not complete.

The teachers on Satchel One are ruthless too. They assign homework like they’re trying to speedrun my downfall.
Teacher: “It’s only a short task.”
Satchel One: Estimated time: 3 hours
Me: “Short for WHO?”

If Satchel One were a person, it would be the kid who reminds the teacher about homework, reminds them again, and then reminds them a third time just to make sure everyone suffers equally. Zero stars. Would only recommend to someone who enjoys stress, confusion, and being bullied by notifications.

Parent review

Parent review. Great idea - I wish I had this when I was at school. Definitely better than manually recording. Does rely on teachers to set good quality homework but that doesn't change if it was not Satchel.

But the system is so very very buggy. For example I can often see homework that my kids can't see that are usually blank (no one can tick them off). Not great software but wouldn't need much to make it great.

Bruh

Okay, I have been using this app for around 4 years now because of how my school makes us use it.

Firstly: It's a minor issue, but I hate how the school gets to choose my profile picture. They used school photo's, and my School photo was completely horrible! So every time I log in, I have to look at my ugly photo on the side with my peripheral vision. EVEN the teachers see it when they check who did their homework (sometimes in front of the whole class!!!) SMH(W)!!

Secondly, uploading is slow! Idk how the system or server works but it really is painfully slow and I have to wait around 30 seconds for one photo (on the phone app) to upload in order to post the next one because if I submitted multiple at a time, it would just stop uploading completely.

Third: When teachers set homework, there seems to be an option for wanting the homework to be submitted in class, not at all, or online.
The problem is though, some teachers may of just ignored this which automatically makes it as though they wanted it submitted online, even though there's nothing to submit (for example: they just want you to revise). Therefore, when I don't submit anything, SMHW marks this 'homework' as not submitted.
Which is just annoying. Teachers may keep records of homework's being submitted or not and mark people down for this.
So I think they should make it as though it can only be marked as 'not submitted' manually by the teacher, and not automatically.

I also need to stop receiving notifications that the teacher has commented 'Changes have been made to the description of this task.' They don't even mean to comment that! It's automatic!

I know this app gets a lot of hate for huge amounts of homework being set, but its not their fault... it's the teachers. So I won't bother them on that.

Otherwise, I guess everything on the website and app are easy to use.

Again, my opinion: It's sad though... because in school we used to get planners which were good because it was an actual physical copy of what homework's you'd have to do.
But we barely used it to the end of year 10 because of smhw (satchel:one), from my guess.

LOL

Do not use

Do not use this app / website - it has ruined my life.

It encourages and enables laziness and selfishness from teachers, who can spend 30 seconds setting a 4-hour-long piece of homework without any more information than a sentence.
My school uses this app, and I have been given several behaviour marks and detentions from not submitting a homework that didn't come up on SMHW for me, or didn't send to the teacher when I submitted it.
It lets teachers bombard you with homework without setting it properly, and you are forced to spend every minute of your free time / weekends checking the damned website to see if you've been given homework, or else be punished. It just lets teachers ruin your holidays and home life with homework.

I tried a free trial - avoid at all costs

I tried a free trial - my daughter didn’t use it. When I tried to cancel it was impossible. Customer services initially told me I didn’t have an account and I had to send a credit card statement to prove it. Then they sent instructions to access ‘cancel’ tabs that did not exist. Messages answered after gaps > 3 weeks at 16:51 one day as further payment taken that night. It’s now over a month since I instructed them to cancel the subscription which they have refused to do yet I am unable to.

Slow, clunky and cumbersome.

It's meant for parents to be able to check what homework their child has been set as well as the child getting tasks directly from their teachers.

It's slow and clunky. Spend hours waiting for tasks to load. If they load at all.
