Educator’s Experience on SimFin.com
I am a teacher who along with my Honors students sought to purchase SimFins maximum amount of paid data. Two SimFin subscriptions students & I considered this year were the Basic bulk .csv download, and the more expensive Pro for its API.
SimFin.com subscriptions are a bit confusing even to intelligent Honors students because “Pro” & “Basic” both offer "20+ years" of “data history” (verbatim from SimFin.com). SimFin.com is currently unclear regarding differences in the data (I sent SimFin.com a screenshot of their website asking for elaboration, but SimFin.com did not elaborate.)
When I asked SimFins customer service to contrast “20+ years of data history” sold via Pro API with “20+ years of data history” sold via the Basic bulk .csv download, SimFin customer service could not answer us and didn’t appear to comprehend our question.
Finally our class tried reframing the question for SimFin.com:
I asked SimFin customer service If both Pro API and Basic bulk .csv data offer “20+ years” of “data history” but for different prices, is there a difference in the data (other than the different method for delivering the data)? If so, what is the difference between the actual data?
Simfin stated that the data accessed via Pro API was different than the Basic bulk .csv data. However they could not specify how the data was different. Furthermore SimFin tersely ended our conversation without answering our question. This disappoints students and I who wish to purchase the appropriate subscription.
Update: SimFin.com stated that they would refund me money. I appreciate this and increased their rating above. Students and I would be grateful for an answer to our question.
