Anticipation

I joined the site with the anticipation of finding the one person who I would like to form and develop a relationship with. It has it's fakers just like any other site but the downfall is people want to have endless chats without having the intention of meeting...stringing you along. I have only met one person off this site and all she was interested was in sex!!! I politely declined Good luck but don't expect miracles

Smooch review

I get muddled up whether smooch is actually free or a paying dating site but irrespective of that....it would be nice if I wasn't automatically taken to the chat room...it should be a personal choice. Smooch is not a bad dating site , there are plenty of ladies and the difference with this site and match.com is that the ladies actually message you first which isn't the case on match.com....the man usually has to message. I think it can hold its own with POF and freedating,co.uk....I dip in now and again or if I receive a message but I am limited to 5 messages which can be frustrating.

They don`t care, arrogant, ignorant its all about your money and automatic payments unless you cancel should be banned

I have use Smooch for quite a while now and it use to be 100% free but not no more and I was not prepared to pay for something that was not worth the prices they want. Then I was offered a reduced price for a few months so thought I would give it a go. Unfortunately they put the onus to stop further payments on you (no doubt hoping you forget) of which I did £65 was taken off me, of which I can not afford, the reasons being of which I explained to Smooch was I have just had 2 operation and I have been off work for several months on sick pay, I got in touch with smooch and explained my situation and the reply I got was blunt and to the point, my fault I should have cancelled no refund, I got back in touch and asked under the circumstances asked for a refund again, no was the answer even though I explained I was on sick pay and could not afford the price and that I did not want 6 months and that I was going to completely delete my profile because it was no good for me, still no refund.
This site is all about taking your money and nothing else matters and surprisingly when you come to this site to leave your views wow! so many others unhappy. People make mistakes and sometimes over site and even illness can make you forget, we use these sites to find companionship and a loving relationship not to be treated with discontent and brushed aside.
My complaint does not end here I am taking this further. The way I see it if I take a reduced subscription as a trail, and then later they take further payment for a full paid subscription these are two different arrangements and so both carry a cooling off period, like everything else if your not truly satisfied you should be entitled to your money back.
My advice do not use this site there is no such thing as customer care

And you may have noticed after so many negative reviews there a short review saying that smooch is great, make your own mind up on who for and on the behalf of some site posted them.

Total rip off

I joined this site which was supposed to be "free" but ended up having to pay to message so I join as a VIP paying £20 for 3 months. Today I get an email saying they have taken £45 off me for another 3 months! When I questioned this I got an extremely condescending reply telling me I hadn't read the terms and conditions. There is no way I agreed to this price as an auto renewal but guess what there is no evidence so I am snookered I can think of a lot better ways to waste money! MASSIVE RIP OFF plus lots of odd bods on the site may as well have flushed 65 quid down the toilet!

Use to be good. Now they treat their members like crap.

I signed up to this dating website years ago, used it constantly. enjoyed it for a while. when I submitted a update, no problems in the past.

Now, it seems they don't want to allow anyone to update their profile, either that or the admins are just too plain lazy to read the littlest update. I was constantly getting contacted by old granny close to their grave and people living hundreds and hundreds of miles away.

I stated the age range and the distance as I was annoyed with these contacts that I had absolutely no interest in.

Along with the fact that I was looking for someone who wasn't allergic to cats, originally I had 1 which was listed and accepted before, then with the update, I submitted that I now had 2. Submitted this entire update, it was rejected, 3 times. So I thought forget it, I'll update one little thing. Just the fact that I had 2 cats instead one, so I just changed the 1 to 2 then changed cat to cats. that was the only little update after being rejected previous post. Again, rejected, rejected, rejected, rejected. No information, no statement, I tried reading this rubbish jargon, couldn't find anything wrong with what I put, but it seems it still got rejected no doubt this one particular admin who I think is just rejecting me without bothering reading anything. If smooch is paying this admin, they should sack him/her because this admin clearly isn't doing their job.

Thus my last update if this admin read it was very very verbally clear nasty message of how I felt which I hope he/she read. I have offically gone off smooch for good and will be submitting this review to many websites and my blog.

Anyone thinking of signing up or investing in this company. Don't bother the time or the money it's not worth it.

Be honest, after reading the reviews I'm starting to believe it's all a scam and those old grannys and people living hundreds of miles away contacting me are fake profiles setup by smooch to ensure people are still hooked to their service. Well smooch, it didn't work as it's lost you more people than you gain.

Misleading

I think their advertising is misleading and in breach of the consumer's Act... "Join Smooch Today - It's 100% Free - 100% Free to contact everyone ALWAYS - because you shouldn't have to pay to date"...!
Always means always! and not with a restriction of 5 messages a day! There are genuine free sites out there who do not start charging you after a while like Smooch is trying to do!

Not worth wasting your money

Hi i have had success couple years ago but now it is just a complete waste of time and effort and would recommend POF or another paying site than this if you looking for love and a relationship

Used to be Brilliant. Now its worse than pof

I used to be a long time member of smooch until i got into a relationship thanks to smooth, I closed my account and that was that. I'm now single so i thought id give smooch ago again. The first thing i noticed was at the top it says what do you get for free. You click on it and it tells you that your now limited to just 5 messages a day where as before it was unlimited. To change this you have to upgrade which is way too pricey. Before you could see who had viewed your profile for free. Now you have to pay for it. Basically everything which was good before you now have to pay for.

In the end I deleted my account.

Had success once, but now its all changed - money orientated !

I did get a 3 year relationship with this site, all 100% free and genuine, it ran its course and I thought I would give it another bash, oh dear, a lot of changes to the rules, 'pop up' city, asking you to become a V.I.P member!
Pretty much everytime you click on the buttons, you can cancel and still use the site, but annoying as it screams 'pay up or low hope of finding anyone'

You can still look, message and receive messages, but can not see who looked at you unless....you cough up some reddies!

But the crunch is this one, FAKE messages from FAKE profiles, I assume to keep you interested - a total scam, I sussed it immediately as the profiles were 20 years younger than me, and no location other than the country, hmmm, I may be lonesome, but I aint daft, they also stopped my text 'about me' maybe I put something that was deemed detrimental to the site, rubbish!

If its a free service then that is what it should be, if its a pay service then fair enough, but make their mind up, don't mess with folks, its just not good practice, and will just put folks off and they will give it a bad review.

So final conclusion - Binned!

Not a lot of choice now, POF is hideously worse, this one was kinda the last of the best of the freebie ones, but now it sadly joins the ranks of the money grabbing false promise of the majority, shot themselves in the foot.

Avoid like the plague !

was good then issues

i was a member of the site and wasnt getting too many replies to any messages i sent, then i spent 500 points i had earned to boost my profile. i started to receive mails from woman and got more people browsing my profile. i noticed a few errors in spelling in my profile and went to change them and it was taking ages to edit and change. then my browser crashed and i had to relog into smooch. to my surprise i found i couldnt log in with the username email address or password i had created. i have tried to contact them but upto now i have only had one reply saying to check how i typed it in cos it is case sensitive. lol i was an IT consultant before i got my cancer and i think i know how to make sure i am typing my email address and password correct. to cut a long story shortish i created another account and did a search for my old character. he was there with a different name to the one i had given him. very weird and still waiting for smooch to tell me what has happened. the site was ok and when i upgraded my profile i got more views and messages but not sure if they are real yet or fake profiles. hope they are real cos some seemed nice.

Worst site ever

Do you see those fake positive reviews from Marjolen or something and 'Yum Yummy', for one thing? Scroll down to the end of the page! Different names, same text, and an answer from Smooch! Cons! Yuck (((
My experience with this site is definitely the worst - free at first, then suddenly you have to pay for everything, even to see when as the last time the user was online? Puh-lease! This is just ridiculous. And whatever they may say, there are fake profiles made by staff members. They send you those 'You're Smoochable (a nasty word, by the way, in my opinion), let's chat' things to make you pay. And even if the profile were real, what do I do if I pay to write this user, but they are not a paying member and so they still will not be able to read my msg and reply? Great way of tricking people into paying! I already told all of my girlfriends to NEVER EVER join this site. Scam. Totally. If it were possible, I could have given them zero stars.

We're sorry you can't see the value in upgrading on the site, I'm sure you can appreciate we're never going to be able to please everyone. The feedback on a whole from users who have upgraded has been hugely positive, and the number of people communicating with each other on the site has seen a huge increase, In general the change has been very effective - Obviously this doesn't help you.

One thing that stands out from your comments and that we can categorically rule out is fake accounts from staff members - This simple does not happen, we spend a lot of time ensuring that fake accounts created by the public are found and removed as quickly as possible so there is certainly no way we'd be creating them ourselves.

Smooch does not limit reading messages, and members can send 5 free messages a day, so even if you message a non VIP user they can still reply to you if they chose - we're not here to try and trick anyone, we just want to help people connect, and we are doing a better job than ever before in doing that.

I appreciate your frustration in the site changing from free to paid and if you contact our support desk and mention this review (http://support.smooch.com - click submit a request in the top right) we'll be happy to see if we can make your experience better on the site.
