My partner had an interview for a cleaning job in this hotel on Friday 4th of July 2025. It was explained that they need a new worker. Her story is below, told from 1st persons perspective.
On Sunday, July 6th, after finishing the cleaning work I was told to come back to work next Saturday (in one week), although during the interview 2 days ago it was explained there will also be work during the upcoming week, although the restaurant will be closed and there might be less customers.
My time was wasted and I was lied to about working hours but this is only the start. Read on.
After contacting the owner about payment for these 3 hours of work on Sunday, and explaining that I am not interested in this kind of employment and want to get paid and move on, I got a reply that they are on holidays now, and I can meet her, the owner, in 10 days.
What holidays?! We had an interview just 2 days and nothing was mentioned about any holidays! Why do you need a worker if you are going on holidays?!
After insisting that I might not be anymore in Aabenraa in ten days, the owner suddenly texts we can meet the next day, Monday July 7th, to pay me. We agree to meet at 11am.
After arriving, I get paid through the car window, because they were leaving and couldn’t wait, (I was 2 minutes late) in cash 300 DKK although it was agreed the payment was 140 DKK per hour plus extra on Sundays. (I have text messages stating this.)
The owner avoided signing an employment contract and cheated me on a miserable amount of money, which is less than 20 euros!
Do you have any integrity!? How low can you go?!
I call her to complain about the amount and get a reply: WHAT DO YOU WANT?
She says the amount is correct and that she needs to pay taxes, which according to her are 40%, although:
1. There was no contract signed so there will be no taxes paid！
2. 40% taxes is a lie, where did you get this number?!
3. Job center in Aabenraa also confirmed 40% taxes are a lie.
To reiterate, if you stay here, you are very likely supporting exploitation of foreign workers, who many times don't speak English even less Danish, and don't know their rights.
If you still decide to stay, enjoy your room, very likely it was cleaned and the bed was made by an exploited worker.
