Angry

Having read a number of the reviews of SolarZero we feel that most of you are quoting us and our current situation. The sales pitch was full of promise but has since become lies, lies & more lies. Can't even speak to the same person twice. Waiting to hear from them about our recent issues but won't hold our breath. Perhaps a class action and/or Fair Go will have some results for us all. What a shame we have to give at least 1 star when -5 would be more appropriate

I am so disappointed with the service from SolarCity. I have been trying for over a month to get them to talk to me. I have e-mailed them, I have phoned them, but had no luck so far.
My husband and I have sold our house and need to transfer the solar system to the new owner but we don't know what to do. We can't get SolarCity to talk to us.

Really happy with the experience

Really happy with the experience; phenomenal value for money (ie free!). We had the panels installed perfectly, the battery a couple of weeks later and we're now functioning really well running off solar power and we'd be selling to the grid if it would stop raining.

Have I done something wrong?!

Solar City have had so many top reviews, I'm trying to work out what I've done wrong?!!
I was expecting installation last October, now 4 months later I'm wondering if the company has closed down. I'm not receiving any responses to emails since 3rd December requesting an update.
For a start they were excellent to deal with and I was keen to get started, then once I'd signed the papers I'm in the dark.
I've never come across service this unresponsive, is it covid related or have I done something wrong?!

Waste of time

Waste of time. They took a long time to respond, and when they finally called, there were three people from their team involved in the communication, it was really confusing. I spent almost half an hour talking with them, the final answer was they can't do my job?! My property is a little bit complex but their engineer doesn't even come to the site and inspect it properly before the proposal. Very disappointed. I don't think the company is reliable. Good luck to people who trust them.

Absolutely USELESS!!

We gave these guys a decent crack (18 months). Power bills went up significantly and not down. We have written to them at least 6 times in as many weeks - absolutely no response. We issued them with notice citing all the breaches of contract - absolutely no response. Phoned again and received email that the removal of the panels would cost $8500 to remove. We wrote back to let them know they were, again, in breach of their own contract and therefore we would be paying nothing to remove or make good the state of our roof. Avoid SolarCity at all costs - if you are looking to buy a house with panels of theirs on it DO NOT sign their agreement - get the vendor to buy out of the contract as part of your negotiation. Their price comparisons are not based on real time - they are based on history. Let's also mention that they are overbilling GST on every account which I will be speaking with Inland Revenue about. We were sold a major lemon and would not recommend to anyone. If I could give this company a zero rating I would.

Happy with the Service

We have had our Solar system installed 5 months ago and are happy about it so far. We have 9 panels + battery and are paying 125$ per month (GST inclusive) + grid. We've had only winter and spring months (in Wellington) and our total bills were between 170 and 190$ per month (we have 2 heat pumps as heating system), this is the fixed 125 + the grid. (family of 4) I think this will go down in the summer months so I am pretty happy about it. The other good thing is that the grid rate is locked for 20 years so no surprise on this side! We have now sold our house and passed on the ownership to the new owners and the process has been very well dealt with especially with the help of Yohann who has followed up the whole transfer and called the new owner to explain exactly how it worked etc... Before going with Solar City I had 2 different companies coming to offer their service and it was roughly 10-12000$ for the panels (9) to buy and own them + another 11-12000$ for the battery. As a reference, my neighbours bought (and own) their panels years ago for 12000$ (no battery) and they pay an average 115$ /month but they have central heating with gas so they will have a higher gas bill on top of this. All considered I thought the Solar city deal was a pretty good one. Installation was done very professionally, very clean installation, scaffolding, cables in the garage, new main etc... and above all we are very happy to contribute to the environment with clean energy!

Highly recommended

I am coming up to my second year anniversary of being a member of Solarcity and have been very happy with my savings and the assistance that I have received from the team. I would particularly like to thank Christopher Burman who I have spoken with on a number occasions, he has been able to answer my questions and explain how my system works and has gone above and beyond so I am now getting optimal performance.

We had excellent service and information leading up to installation, but I would have liked some follow up after installation. It's a big step going solar, but we like the fact we are helping the environment.

Do Your Homework!

I did a very careful analysis of the costs and potential savings. The first thing that really annoyed me is the information I provided (existing power account) was GST inclusive, it wasn’t until a number of communications later with sales person that they based their savings using their solar on GST EXCLUSIVE figures! Making their potential savings greater than actual. I pointed this out, that as an end consumer they should be providing information GST inclusive. They appear to be reluctant to do so. The potential savings (I sent them my spreadsheet of calculations) was if anything marginal at best and then with a degeneration of between .8 to 1.35% of the solar panels annually (up to 13.5% over 10 years) AND battery degeneration it was going to cost me. The last straw was all the reviews I read which by-enlarge paint a very bad picture of this company. I gladly walked away……

I feel like they are used/practiced to make promises and nothing really happens. then just now I came to find out all these reviews which confirms my findings. it really worries me. i hope it wont get worse for us. sigh

The other reviews say it all really, over a year now of the battery not charging and turning itself off, constant calls and emails and we are just ignored, stay clear of this company, it is not worth it. We will be talking to a lawyer.

Service is horrendous

Service is horrendous, do not use this company. Promised me they would save me money. My power bill went up. Every time I ring them they tell me someone has left in the process starts again it will be 4 to 6 weeks before someone can look at my case. Absolutely horrific business.

Been with solar city since 01.01.2020

Been with solar city since 01.01.2020. Fantastic system and has almost halved our power bill. We have 13 panels and elderly parents who run heating and cooling 24/7. Power bill used to be $500+/month. Now $167/month hireage and max bill at peak is $120. Happy with everything. We're based in Waikato. After reading all the terrible reviews, wonder if service standard is linked to where you live

Absolute scam.

Absolute scam.
We were promised to save $420 in the first year, however we ended up spending $1333 more despite using less kilowatts from Ecotricity. Leaving us $1753 out of pocket.
Have tried many times to explain to them they are ripping us off, however they continue to tell us we are saving. Even with proof with invoices from our previous providers.
The final straw was the insulting email which attempted to explain to me how the sun works and “I can’t expect to save as much in winter as we do in summer, because the sunshine hours are less!” Oh my god, really!! I’m waiting for them to tell me the moon also doesn’t contribute to the system. Muppets.
Have tried the utilities disputes, and it falls into a bit of a grey area, so the only remaining option is to get lawyers involved.
DON’T GO THERE.
It’s the old adage, if it seems to good to be true.........

Solar city is a scam

We have been with this company a while. What seemed like an awesome idea now I see is a scam. The promises made are lies. Dealing with their customer services is a joke, your lucky if they reply. We were promised a battery to meet our electricity needs. A good third to half of the year it doesn't even charge, constant 3% charge through late autumn to spring. When it is charged it empties so quick it hardly seems worth it. They have never cleaned or maintained the panels which we were told they would. No guidance about how to use electricity best when we were told we would get a regular plan and input / guidance from them. We pay $200 rental a month and on average inluding electricity from ecotricity approx $400 a month which is way more than when we were with Trust power with no solar kit and they were not cheap. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT sign up with this conjob. If you can't afford to buy your own kit find another decent solar leaser not sure who or use a company like Meridian which is 100% sustainable.

False promises and lies to hook you up

We signed up 18 months ago and since then I took track of all the combined bills ( theirs and Ecotricty ones). They hooked us promising big savings on yearly bases, Since we are with them I can say that we pay roughly 40% more of what we used to pay with Pulse and no solar panels. I think that this is a sort of scam and if anybody out there is in my same situation please get in touch as I would like to share legal cost to sue them.
