Substantial rate increase without consent

I have been a Spaces customer for 5+ years, and have a small office at the 5200 Yonge Street North York ON location for 3 years. In July of 2025, my agreement was auto-renewed with a 23% increase in monthly fee. Furthermore, a $900+ deposit was charged up front on top of my original $3,000+ deposit. This was all done without my explicit consent or even a discussion with their location management. I tried to appeal to the location management, but they said no changes can be made and I am locked in for another 12 months. IMHO, they should solicit consent from the customer when there is a substantial increase in rate - they should not charge whatever they want on auto renewal. I am a disappointed, long-time customer.

Hi Alfred,
I’m so sorry for your dissatisfaction.
I understand that your main concern is about the renewal price increase and the retainer top-up.
The renewal price is set according to the prevailing market rate. We take renewals very seriously and ensure that the process, which is very simple, is communicated to customers upfront.
According to our history, you received courtesy renewal reminder emails on 09 and 23 June 2025 with detailed information on prices, terms and the option of ending the agreement if you no longer require our services.
This was sent to the email address we have on file, which you can review and amend at any time by logging in to your account online (myspacesworks.com).
When your agreement was renewed, we confirmed it to you on 02 July 2025.
You can check these emails in the Account > Documents section of your online account.
Per your service agreement, we require a retainer equal to 2x the amount of your monthly fee. Since your monthly fee has increased, the retainer fee has increased accordingly and is charged as a retainer top-up fee. This is informed in the courtesy renewal reminder emails and the renewal confirmation.
Your centre team are your key contact in this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact them for further help.
Thank you,

Think twice before using them

Think twice before using them. Your deposit will never be refunded. I am going through the battle to get it back. No particular reason, just no one cares.
