Looking at 115 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. People frequently complained about unexpected extra charges added for scans, alongside aggressive sales tactics and upselling during eye tests. If i could give zero stars i would, AVOID

If i could give zero stars i would. Ordered my 2 year old son’s glasses on the 15th of June,I paid €194 on top of the €55 from the under 12’s scheme. I paid for his lenses on 1 pair to be thinned down and a second pair of frames. I was told the glasses the lady recommended were “toddler proof” and very flexible and would be ready by the 29th of June the latest.

The day came to collect the glasses and i hadn’t heard anything so i rang and was told there was a delay but they were in transit and would be here in 3 days. Again on the day in question i hadn’t heard anything so I rang and was told they’re delayed possibly because of how strong his prescription is and would be in by the end of the week. I was also told “not to ring back that they’d ring/ text me. So i waited yet again 10 more days and decided to call back. This time i got a different lady who told me the glasses were still in transit but because they’re coming from Hungary they’re taking longer to get here. At this point i was being told the glasses where in transit over 2 weeks which in this day and age is just quite frankly unbelievable. 5 more days passed and I decided to call into the shop in person to find out what was really going on. Only for the lady to tell me my sons glasses where there for me to collect yet nobody had contacted me to tell me. Considering i was told 3 times on the phone not to contact them they’d contact me when they arrived is just ridiculous. But i was happy to finally have my son’s glasses 5 weeks later!!!!

Fast forward 5 days and the “toddler proof” glasses broke!!! He bent them and the hinge broke so now less than a week later i’m down to 1 pair and have no spare. I understand he bent them but I was told on more than one occasion that they’re very flexible and less likely to break. I only went with specsavers because i thought they’re such a big company i’d have no issues but have been met with nothing but problems from the get go. This was my son’s 1st pair of glasses so i’d no experience in buying glasses but I’ll definitely go elsewhere from now on. Avoid this place at all costs!!!

Thank you

I was a bit late in leaving my feedback as I was on vacation, but I haven’t forgotten the professionalism, kindness, and passion Ines demonstrated in her work. I don’t usually leave reviews, but in this case, I truly felt it was deserved. A sincere thank you to Ines and the entire Specsavers Swords team.

I was misinformed from the start of my visit, I was told my child woukd not qualify for a free eyetest with the HSE, then my child was provided an eyetest with additional screening of retina without telling me the retina screening was optional. Then I was encouraged to buy her glasses with microgen lens costing over 300 euro, despite a very low recommended prescription number. I didnt feel comfortable buying thr glasses so I left and then contacted the HSE, got a free eye test for my child, who passes with no requirement for glasses! I have lost all trust in this company, they are interested in sales and sales only, not good advice and zero transparency.

Faultless service again. Superb.

Just collected my glasses from Specsavers Dawson Street — and, not for the first time, the service was faultless. From start to finish, the entire customer experience was exceptional. The staff could not have done more — all so personable and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. The eye test itself was very detailed and thorough, lasting around 50 minutes. Everything was clearly explained by the optician, Lisa, which made the process reassuring and informative.
As my prescription is due to change again next year, I opted for the most basic offering — but despite the low cost, the frames are excellent quality. The whole process is smooth and well organised. Booking an appointment couldn’t be easier, and customers are seen promptly at the agreed time.

It’s a genuine pleasure to write such a positive review. I’ve been with Specsavers for over 20 years now, and long may it continue. I’ll be back again in 2026.
10 stars.

Fox valley Stocksbridge store so…

Fox valley Stocksbridge store so disappointing - promised me sincerely that glasses would be ready well before my holiday, so I ordered them….4 times they have said they are not ready! Promised me Friday, not in so booked for Saturday promised again they would be in - fitting appointment booked, then cancelled & they said they would be in by dinner time now, called at dinnertime with zero apologies or solutions said not going to be in until Monday - so how I have to go pay another £300 to another optician to get same day glasses to go away on holiday with - this store was supposed to be ‘making my appalling previous experience with another store’ right but yet again I am left out of pocket paying upfront for glasses that never arrive within the 2 week time frame promised, not being able to see properly & yet again another holiday made super stressful having to pay another company to rectify specsavers mistakes & even worse appalling customer service. The optician I saw was great but the other staff are clearly mostly trainee level & incompetent & inept at dealing with issues. Alex the supervisor was utterly useless - didn’t even apologise for delay just said come in Monday & speak to the manager if you’re not happy….Fuming

Rip off

I am waiting now about a week and a half for my glasses I still won't get them for another two weeks, I have bad eye sight so my lenses have to be thinned down I wear bivocals, now I'm on an invilidaty pension because I have a long list of health issues so I've limited funds and yes u get ur eye test for free if u have a medical card or prsi stamp but they try to push this eye scan on top of the cost of ur eye test which is 25 euro same price as the eye test, I refused because I'm diabetic so I had that scan done approximately 3 weeks prior to my eye test which costs the same as the eye test so basically ur still paying for the so called eye test anyone hearing this so it is not a free eye test in my opinion, so u do get so much off ur glasses with either a medical card or prsi stamp which is how I'd gotten mine total of 84 euro off from when I was working, but I tried to get the cheapest frame I could because I cnt afford anything better they had ones for 20 euro but I'm told they won't fit my requirements so I was pointed towards
the ones that would they were 100 so no designer nothing fancy but they looked identical to the one for 20 euro so when I said this I was told they wouldn't work but why there the same thickness no difference that I could see, so all in all u get a second pair free but u don't really u get the frames because my eye prescription is so different to most I did not get it for free all in all my glasses were almost 500 euro would have been close to 600 with out the prsi discount they say the scratch proof coating comes as standard the reason I need new glasses because these ones I'm wearing are so badly scratched up I cnt see through them so what ever there putting on them is absolutely rubbish I have designer frames at home which I have a long time never worn but the don't want to let me use them there out to making a killing off people, why can't u use frames u already have why ? This place is a rip off I can't afford it I'd to borrow money so I can see it's a place I hate going to I don't think I will be back ever again my pair before the ones I'm wearing snapped in two at the bridge of the nose I am not rough with my glasses not at 500 a pop I'm not can anyone explain to me why there this expensive and why they snap and break and why there scratch proof coating is rubbish

Bought two for 1at pecksavers Tuam

Bought two for 1at pecksavers Tuam, within 8mnts an arm fell off both pairs. Brought them back too the shop, all the would say is they would give me new ones for half price as it was not a production fault that was it,I took my specks home said no thanks, am now considering legal action because of specksavers guarantee the lens on both were scratched despite their scratch resistant pledge.Their
sales technique are also a total con with add ons buyer beware is big time here, used to go to specksavers Galway problem free.

rudeness of staff

rang for appt receptionist took details of medical card pps number.
recieved letter from social welfare to say i was not entitled to eye test under prsi.
i asked for under medical card but person who took my details cant have looked or been bothered to see i was a medical card person who for last 9 yrs have used them by medical card
when i rang to speak to a supervisor the person would not let me explain and kept interupting me so i asked 3 times to let me finish she then accused me of raising my voice and put phone down on me.
rang back to again to speak to someone else only to be told no one else could chat and i would get a call back tomorow or later and again put phone down.

Specsavers Review

On a recent visit to Specsavers, Galway the staff in the Optical section could not have been more pleasant, forthcoming and helpful. They volunteered information and answered questions in a polite and friendly manner and were a pleasure to deal with.
However, my experience in the Auditory dept was not as good. I was told that I have moderate hearing loss but no information was volunteered as to what exactly this meant, how it might progress, which ear was worst affected and what my future options might be - there was no discussion whatsoever. When I made a return visit to find out more, nobody came out to speak with me - a message was sent back that I would receive an email which duly arrived containing the same information along with a chart showing the relative performance of each ear. Not immediately realising this ( I missed the tiny writing at the bottom which detailed it ) I went back to the store to ask and was greeted by a desk person in the most offhand manner who appeared to barely restrain her irritation at my apparent stupidity.
Overall, not a pleasant experience and one I won’t repeat.

Waterford store - incompetent

It took almost an hour for assistant to process my eye prescription. When my glasses arrived the prescription was wrong. Returned them today and again the wrong prescription. Extremely poor service and no apology forthcoming despite spending €450. Will never use this company again.

Poor service

Having used Specsavers in the UK and always been very pleased with the service and products, I was hoping for the same in Bray. Alas I am very disappointed. Firstly my husband ordered 2 pairs of glasses but one pair was presented with the wrong lense prescription and had to be re made and just a couple of months later one of the lenses fell out! I also ordered 2 pairs of glasses, the prescription sunglasses were ok but having specifically requested a graduated tint on my everyday glasses and being reassured that it would be possible to have this as per my previous glasses obtained in UK, this was not done when I went to collect them and I was informed that Specsavers do not provide graduated tints 🤷‍♀️Why wasn’t I told this at the point of order? Waste of time and money. We will NOT be returning to Specsavers .

Citywest store tried to upsell me on…

Citywest store tried to upsell me on the OCT scan twice after I'd already declined it. Also my new frames were going to cost me twice what they did last year. When I said I would shop around, I was presented with two further lower prices. Lost all faith at this point and felt I was being fleeced at every turn.

Be aware that the OCT scan is optional and you can refuse.

***You can go in and get your free PRSI test and leave with your prescription and get your glasses elsewhere or online (as I have now done) for a fraction of the cost.***

I did complete the feedback survey with my negative experience and have had no reply or contact from Specsavers to date.

Poor customer care Specsavers Bournemouth/Boscombe

Returned hearing aids £2,995 for refund on 21 May. Audiologist (Laura) said she wasn’t authorised to process refund but I would hear from finance department in approx 2 weeks. I phoned Boscombe branch Friday 6 June (2 weeks and 2 days after no calls) and Maria assured me that someone would get back to me about refund. Nothing. Is this customer care? What’s happened to Specsavers? Guess I will have to ring again tomorrow. So stressful.,

235 euro for an eye test and one pair of glasses. they said something about the lens needing trimming and that costed from 50-100 euro I took the 50 euro trimming. and for that price even if i got a second pair it would cost me 450 euro. the lady that was helping me and the optician were good but pretty much spend my Thursdays Pay check in one trip that day.

bad service at Specsavers Blancherstown

I went to Specsavers Blancherstown store to collect my contact lenses and the staff there only gave one box to me (which should be 2 boxes for both eyes). After that I went back to the store and called many times in the next month but their stuff is always either busy or just not helpful at all! I waited for another month but still haven't got my lenses which I should be getting 2 months ago! Very unprofessional services!

Plus the staff insisted I needed to book another eye test but when I got to the store they told me I don't need one and it has been cancelled. I said 'you should at least give me a text to notify me' and the staff said 'there's nothing we can do'

Will cancel the contact lenses home delivery service! Will never go back to Blancherstown store

Weird & unhelpful experience in dawson street branch…

Weird & unhelpful experience in Specsavers in Dawson street. Bought a pair of glasses where the lens kept popping out. A small repair required & these things happen. I asked to drop them in & get them tightened. They insisted that to repair them I stay in the shop while they did this??????. When I explained I had other committments & would like to drop them in & come back. They said they do NOT allow this & that I had to stay in the shop while they xsent it to their workshop to tighten them. They would not or could not explain the rationale for this ..repeatedley stating it was " policy". What an unecessary, unproductive, waste of my time & crappy customer experience. 4 of us in the family with glasses we are not coming back faced with & I could not recomend this rigidity & poor customer experience to anyone

Went to collect new glasses from Stillorgan during my lunch hour. I was waiting so long, I was told the reason for the delay was everyone was on their lunch including the Opticians. Only when I complained about all the staff being on lunch together did they send someone out to me. Don’t go into Specsavers Stillorgan on your lunch, as no one will be there to serve you.
