Beware! Unethical company.

I used Spokeo's "free" service to look something up. The "free" service proved inadequate and then I was asked to pay $0.95. Okay, $0.95 is not the end of the world so I went ahead. The paid information told me what I needed to know. I left Spokeo. Sometime later, I found that I was charged $29.95 for a one-month membership to Spokeo. I do not recall being offered a membership or accepting or purchasing one outright. So I called them. I got a hold of a wage slave who looked up my account after some difficulty. At first, I was offered about a third of the amount by way of a refund. I grew upset. I told them that I did not sign up for this service and it was only charged yesterday. The wage slave went to its master and a refund was authorized. I am hopeful about this refund. So I wasted half an hour of my time on some emotional stress but no lasting harm was done. However, I must question this company's ethics. I did not sign up for this account so for them to charge me a MONTHLY membership for $30 is an outrage. Furthermore, to have to struggle to get the refund is an additional outrage. I recommend using another company and not SPOKEO.COM!!

Thought I was signing up for a few…

Thought I was signing up for a few dollars for a single report but was billed $29.95 for a recurring monthly fee. The cancellation option is well buried and follows a lengthy advert about the service.

Regarding the Spokeo response: lots of words to explain why I was being grossly overcharged for a single use. Using Spokeo for a single search was a costly mistake.

I needed assistance with one issue…

I needed assistance with one issue recently (finding out who lived at a certain address in a rental home) and I hesitantly used the services of Spokeo. I had heard horror stories of other companies similar to Spokeo as to cancelling memberships. I am pleased to say that I had absolutely no issues with cancelling. It was a very short, hassle-free process in which they very efficiently and quickly cancelled the membership without any hassles. They also provided very professional, courteous service. I would not hesitate to use Spokeo again and would highly recommend them.

No useful information. Dismal customer support.

I paid for a trial subscription. I received outdated, irreverent information. Before cancelling my account several hours after signing up, I sought the assistance of a Spokeo chat representative. Here is the message I received in the Spokeo chat window: “An agent will join you in 1–2 days. 109 people are waiting ahead of you.”

If Spokeo doesn't provide me with a full refund, my credit card company certainly will.

Costs a lot, dont know yur signing subscription. Then your charged horrendously next month.

You start out paying $1.95, and when your done, you're getting billed $30 the next month. I cant afford food! (Hub isn't working many hours) & Im disabled. When you want a refund, you only get ½, and only used service 1 time. Very unfair.

And evil company that helps bad people find their victims.

This kind of company is parasitic and helps to serve the fascist regimes within my country. They sell people's personal information on a subscription basis. It's the most diabolical thing I could have ever come up with and these people do it conscious free. They have one of the dumbest clankers I've ever encountered guarding the shutdown process. And I've been waiting for about an hour now with a 1 to 3 minute wait with 139 people ahead of me. Thankfully Google has a way to request my information is removed. But I'm on a do not call list because I don't want to deal with the people who use these sites. I have a few stalkers who are looking for me actively, and even with the partially blurred information on this website it would be no problem for them to locate me. Your business model is exposing me to conartists and rapists. You should kill yourself before we decide to go hang everyone who participates in this f****** disgusting practice. You absolute degenerates.

Extremely hard to cancel and very slow support

We spent over 40 minutes just trying to find where to cancel the subscription — the option is hidden and not clear on the website. When we finally contacted support, the operator took another 20 minutes to respond and didn’t help right away.
The service charged money without any warning, and canceling it takes too much time and frustration. Very bad experience — I do not recommend it.

No useful information

I needed some quick info on someone I hired that would be in my home. I didn't find any useful information after paying $0.95 and then an additional $5.00. The information included names and aliases that were definitely not the person I was looking for. Also I knew this person had a felony conviction and that information was not included. I was able to find more useful information on a search of public court records. I guess you get what you pay for. I immediately went to my account and canceled my "free trial". I also contacted customer service to ensure it was indeed canceled and there would be no further charges as I've read many reviews saying they continued to bill. I would not recommend Spokeo just on the fact that I received no useful information. I will update if any problems with charges after cancelation.

Scammed scam scammers

I would give them less then one star but I can't they are crooked as hell and nothing but a scam site they dont give you anything when you do buy one of their background or info spreads itd worthless knowledge achievable with a standard google search for not let these crooks get your card info at all

Block Unwanted Callers

I used SPOKEO to look up those annoying numbers that were not in my contacts and used the information to block unwanted callers. The information is more current and complete than the competitors. If you can't find the information yourself, SPOKEO can fill in some of those blanks for you.
