I visited Steve Car Rental today May 28, 2025 in Southend on sea. I had my 12 years old daughter with me. The guy there said car will be ready in 30 mins and after 30 mins he said he has not even started it. He was extremely rude and refused to get the car ready. Most shockingly he was rude to my daughter who is just 12 year old. I am shocked at the attitude of this person and would request the management to discipline him. He was threatening and abusive. I would have called police if it were not for my daughter. I just tolerated because I did not want more disturbance for my daughter. This person name is Robin and he is the rudest person I have ever met and does not know how to talk to a child. I will report him so gets some counselling that he badly needs.

The signing paperwork was easy and simple with everything explained.
However, the real awesomeness came after I badly damaged the vehicle I hired. All circumstances were taken into account and they made everything doable with true human kindness. If they ever let me again, I’d go straight there if I ever need a van! Thanks guys.
Great company to deal with no high pressure sales tactics as some other well know companies. In fact they do not sell CDW insurance because they said you can buy it cheaper on line than we can sell it for which we did for a nominal fee. It is also cheaper for them to refill the vehicle because they charged us less than forecourt pump prices.
If driving long distances I would not recommend a Vauxhall Vivaro van, it was very uncomfortable (but OK for local work) I would choose a Ford Transit, Peugeot Boxer or VW Crafter.
Steve's is a small family-run business and so when it came to hiring a car we wanted to give our business to them rather than one of the big multi-nationals.
Our instincts proved correct.
During the hire period we had a slight problem with the car. These things happen. On returning we were expecting to have to go through a lengthy complaints process, like you might have to with one of the big multi-nationals for example. Instead, the company were sincerely apologetic and gave us a full refund for the day we were unable to use the car.
We would definitely use Steve's again and fully recommend them.
