I read through others review before choosing a solicitor. I found it helpful to read about other’s experiences and about each solicitors specific field and what they specialise in. Out of 4 separate solicitors I had contacted, only two replied. Stowe was number my number one choice and didn’t disappoint with their prompt and professional service. Although my initial choice of Solicitor was unable to take on any new clients, I was passed on to Anu & her team. Very grateful to be in good hands.

This rating reflects two very different experiences:
- 5 stars for Figen Demeri, who was excellent throughout: knowledgeable, detailed, sympathetic, and consistently professional.
- 1 star for Stowe’s fee structure and pricing.
I was initially quoted around £10k, but the final bill reached nearly £25k. I have since seen that Stowe now offers a fixed-fee divorce service. Had this been mentioned at the outset, it would have been a far less stressful and more transparent option.
My case involved significant assets and complications, including serious errors by the other side (Streathers - avoid), which forced negotiations to restart and wasted time and money. My ex also became seriously ill during the process, adding further delays and cost. At one point, I was in effect paying for legal advice aimed at indemnifying Stowe if the outcome worsened due to her illness. Other significant issues, which I was not aware of at the start of proceedings, emerged and drove the need for yet more unanticipated legal advice.
The per-email charging model was a major driver of cost. At roughly £50 per email, even a simple progress chase can cost around £250 once all chargeable emails are counted. Emails and calls are billed in six-minute minimum blocks, making brief communications disproportionately expensive.
With hindsight, had I known the true likely cost, I would taken my time and compared firms far more carefully, and asked for more up-front reassurances on the final total bill. Under pressure from the other side, I panicked and instructed the first solicitor I spoke to, and did not anticipate the complications which ensued.
Advice: Speak to at least three solicitors, fully understand their fee structures and worst-case costs, and don’t accept artificial deadlines from the other side.
And finally — don’t get married!
If you’re reading this, it’s probably already too late. Good luck.
