Stick with Sunglass Hut!

Stick with Sunglass Hut!, these guys are a mess. Cost me $200+ to learn!I bought a pair of Oakleys at their Kotara (Newcastle) store 2 weeks ago. A new style. Wore them twice for one hour each time and found the narrow bridge game me a headache.

Called store and asked if I could exchange. They said they would get back to me. At the same time I was on their Facebook page (as their website is useless) and sent FB message indicating I bought at Kotara on holiday but lived in Sydney and asked if I could return to their Darling Harbour Store instead as I live in Sydney. Message came back "yes, you can exchange them at Harbourside with pleasure".

The process was anything but pleasurable.

Took 2 hours out of my work do to go as directed. Woman at Harbourside said she knew nothing about it and that she couldn't help me - end of story. I had to insist and show her both the messenger conversation and the voice mail message from Kotara to get her to even consider the exchange. She then called her 'manager' and said he said sorry no - end of story again. I then had to call Kotara again (BTW Kelly and Kerry at Kotara were lovely and helped all they could - so thanks ladies), they then called the owner of the Harbourside store (again)..... by this time I've been standing in the store for 40 minutes. As requested, I had brought the glasses back in mint condition (only been worn for two hours and kept in the carry bag), with original packaging and receipt. Lady at Harboursdie then started to go over the packaging with that I assume was the owner on the phone. "The box is squashed" she said (it had a cosmetic crease in the cardboard that was there when I bought it). The she went to work on the glasses with a cleaning cloth for a good 5-10 minutes whilst talking on the phone still. Lens cleaner, more rubbing. Holding lenses up to the light over and over and over..... until.

WAIT.... "There is a hairline scratch" (that was definitely not there when I put them in the box.) The smile on her face said it all. "Sorry, we can't replace these now as they aren't resalable"

This website will flag this review if I accuse with proof (which in this case is impossible), so all I'll say is that she spent a LONG time looking for reasons not to go ahead with the exchange that she clearly didn't want to do from the outset and there was certainly not a mark on those glasses when I boxed them up this morning.

So now I have glasses that don't fit, no option for exchange and a pair of 2 hour old $200 sunglasses with a scratch on them. Oh, and because this all took so long, a $17 parking charge.

Moral of the story. Stick with the bigger, established retailers who value their customers and look for ways to help, not excuses to keep their $$$$. Small brand, thinking small and will stay small.

Me, my family and all who will listen to me will never shop there again. Sorry Kotata store, you did nothing wrong and maybe should consider getting out of the franchise and putting up a new logo so you arnt tarnished by the same brush.

I rarely go to the effort of writing reviews like this, but as you can tell I feel pretty helpless in this situatuion..... thanks for listening, hope this helps someone else at some point.

Kotara Store - Newcastle NSW

This is for the Kotara Store -
The service I received from Kelly (manager?) and other staff was fanastic. I had broken the arm off my Maui Jim's and Kelly could not have been more helpful to get me free replacements even though the store was packed and she was very busy. We went into several other sunglass stores and the service they offered was in stark contrast to Sunglass Spectacular. Also none of them matched the prices of the sales in Sunglass Spectacular. Thank you for your great service and we will be back.
