One of the best meals we've had out in ages.
The building is literally right on Polzeath beach (you'll have to walk on the beach to get to it), with tables which have an outstanding view. Furnishing is comfortable and the interior is bright and has homemade decor. Staff were attentive and extremely welcoming.
They advertise as a 'Cafe and Bar' and have a small menu adapted to currently available local produce (with daily specials), but make no mistake, this is outstanding food which could happily commandeer higher tier prices in London (I'm a big fan of Rules of Covent Garden, and I'd happily put this food in the same class).
I had a half-dozen scallops (with roe on, which is becoming harder to find in eateries for some reason) with bacon butter, in the shell, which included perfectly cooked and seasoned fries, on a bed of seared seaweed. Absolutely fantastic and full of the taste and smell of the sea as fresh seafood should be.
My partner ordered a medium-rare fillet steak with corn on the cob, and it also did not disappoint. Our son had a mini-burger with homemade relish which also went down well.
Desserts were equally impressive, and the deepfried rhubarb icecream with coconut batter, chocolate soil and caramel sauce was not only inventive but utterly delicious.
Our only regret is that we found this place so late in our holiday, else we'd have been there at least another night!
Highly recommended!
