A Railway enthusiasts dream
I’ve attended a lot of events( mainly Diesel galas) on the SVR. I have always enjoyed them immensely. Anyone who has a love of railways( particularly of a bygone era) needs to visit the SVR. It’s a step back in time and just pure indulgence. I visited, along with a friend on Sunday 2/10/22, for the Autumn diesel gala, and apart from a locomotive failing whilst running to Bridgenorth, and causing a 45 min delay( these things happen from time to time- they are old locomotives), it was a hugely enjoyable day( the added bonus being wall to wall sunshine), topped off with a tour around the Motive power depot and Carriage shed at Kidderminster, led by 2 very enthusiastic and knowledgable guides( they know who they are). A huge Thankyou to all the volunteers that keep everything going to keep this line alive. We will be back next year
Fantastic day out
Fantastic day out, friendly staff, great experience all around!
Don’t look out of the window..
As you pass the Severn valley country park, you will see shooting taking place by the river. Men and women with rifles are shooting the little ducks out of the sky. If you are travelling with children please distract them so they don’t see it. If you are walking along the public footpath, please wear a hat as the shooters aim above your head and the ball bearings ( and ducks unfortunately) will land around your feet. Very dangerous and very frightening. The vehicles cross the railway to get to the ducks.
Beware of onsite car parking scam...
I have been visiting SVR for 30 years and have enjoyed my visits as a member / non-member until recently having parked my car on site at Kidderminster. Access was always via a barrier and payment by token from the shop until my first visit after the pandemic during the school holidays. The barrier was not there and didn't notice any new signs / ANPR cameras until I received a parking charge notice for £100. Ruined the experience and will now boycott SVR altogether. You have been warned...
An excellent full day out
An excellent full day out. Despite restrictions on steam due to dry lineside conditions the SVR was running footplate experiences at Bridgenorth and Kidderminster so we got to ride a steam train and, more importantly, blow the whistle which definitely brought out the big kid in this 60 something man.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful with a special mention to Rachel who was sorting out the footplate rides in baking hot Bridgnorth.
All in all, a great day out
Never order tickets online
Never order tickets online. I ordered and paid for four, when we arrived I was informed that my son who works at GCR was entitled to a free journey so was only issued three tickets, I asked if they could reimburse me for the one not given, the ticket office just gave me a email and that they couldn’t do anything.
I’ve had a reply from SVR basically saying tough we don’t give refunds, that’s fine just send me the ticket I paid for.
We go to a lot of heritage railways and never felt ripped off.the SVR management are the worst I’ve ever known.
Amazing experience
First time visiting the Severn Valley Ghost Train and it will most definitely not be the last. Amazing experience and the grandchildren were asking if they can come back next year before we even left the station. All the staff at the station we departed from (Kidderminster) and the stations we stopped at (Bewdley & Arley) were dressed up and entertained not just the children but the adults too.

Santa Special on Christmas Eve 2020.
Lovely, magical family day out. Great that we had our own compartments on the train, which even had a bottle of hand sanitiser in. All very well organised and felt very safe. It was never busy or crowded even when boarding the train or getting off. Helpful, friendly staff who checked on us regularly, making sure everyone was safe and having a good time. Lovely mince pies (gingerbread for the children) and hot chocolate. The show was very good and it was nice that the childrens' presents we're waiting for them back on the train, which were well suited to childrens' ages. Lots of photo opportunities with Santa's sleigh and reindeer and the snow machine. I thought that it was a nice touch that the children were all given their own 'jingle bell' to ring at various points during the show, and we now have our bell on our Christmas tree :)
We also had a ride on the miniature railway afterwards (£1 per person).

Vistied SVR on Sat 5th Dec for the 11am Santa Express.
wow, just wow.
From arrival to boarding was a brilliant experience, social distancing was in place.
The show at Arley was great
Presents on the train were perfect for the kids, My youngest had asked Santa for a Orange Yo-Yo and Santa delivered it on the train. (puts the magic in to Christmas)
This was our 2nd year booking, and SVR did not disappoint, even with COVID here they were brilliant
Staff are very attentive and courteous.
The Hot Chocolate and mince Pies were tasty (did miss the Baileys this year :( due to COVID rules)
Keep up the great work all, see you soon.
Arley station kiosk
Visited the food kiosk at Arley station. The lady who served us, Lisa, was very friendly and helpful - teas, coffees, snacks, etc and loads of freshly made sandwiches. The ham salad sandwich I had was to die for! And all reasonably priced too.
Excellent place
Excellent place. Great gift shop at the station with good selection of items and excellent customer service. Buying experience vouchers and dinner on the move tickets on line is easy to do.
