House purchase and sale

The conveyancing itself was efficient, and we received a very comprehensive information pack.

However, there was often a reluctance to return calls. Also, the proof of funds was unnecessarily intrusive and extremely time consuming. I understand the legal requirements but it was very stressful to go through.

Family Department - Very capable!

Used them for 4+ years (2020 - 2025) and it has been a very good experience overall for Divorce and Family matters especially with the onboarding of GG who was a very sharp young man armed with arsenal of Barristers that ingeniously destroy opponents in a very classy way - no arrogancy! His presentations of court documents are clean, logically arranged, write-ups, counsel and advocacies in the fields of Divorce and Child matters were second to none in my case. Very pleasant mannerism, professional, down-to-earth, great listening techniques, and will set expectations realistically. GG for me just really gets it! Customers' needs and outcomes are priority to him! While this firm is not cheap (rates like City firms) but their family service is the best that I have used. The management team are very approachable and they will assist you if there are any type of issues arranging calls with you etc. I highly recommend Thackray William Solicitors!

In a world of slow and inattentive…

In a world of slow and inattentive people and companies, Thackray Williams stands out. Whilst pricer than other greater London firms, they are the only firm I have ever used who pick up the phone, call you because its more efficient, and respond to emails (on the same day!) in conveyancing transactions.

They are generally pragmatic, methodical and organised which is a breath of fresh air in an industry (property) which is yet to catch up to the 21st century.

Special thanks to Manaal R and Louise B who have exceeded many expectations of how solicitors should operate on several occasions over the years I have used this firm though I have had a pleasant experience with many more in the firm.

Overcharged without informing us

Whilst staff is friendly when speaking to them initially, we were very disappointed by their lack of communication around fees. The firm did not follow the procedure that they laid out in their Terms of Business, but came up with an additional invoice of almost £1,500 out of the blue for work done months earlier that wasn't communicated at the time. The issue was then handled rudely by simply ignoring our concerns and threatening us.

Read the one star reviews !

Please read all the one star reviews .From my own personal experience and you couldn't possiibly make it up as this company are an utter shambles and a disgrace.I used them to sell a property and to try and buy a property and to draw up a will and they were hopeless in all these departments. I should have learnt from the first instance. They have lost my original Marriage certificate. They have cost me purchasing a property due to a very slow and unresponsive attitude to which I received an email from the estate agent highlighting this fact. Then to compound everything we had a will drawn up by Thackray Williams to which we thought we had fully paid for but later found out this was only a down payment which was over a £1000.With very little time to sort through all this as along the way we had proved that Thackray Williams had missed a payment we had made for £200 and there was no forthcoming apology. We then we received a threatening letter saying that they put a ccj against us and would come after the money owed which was most upsetting to my wife espescially as at that time we were working out what other payments may have been missed by them as we couldn't understand why they were demanding another payment similar to what we had already paid as in our mind we had already fully paid. What I then requested was a break down of what was charged and I got a
one sentence answer with no break down and no payments showing.I then requested again and finally got what I wanted which was the break down with the payments that were made.We then understood that they had charged us far more than we were originally led to believe as it was a variable charge and they charged us the absolute maximum.I then paid them the full amount plus the ccj cost (an extra £160 odd ) and twice I had to chase for a receipt.Thackray Williams should be accountable for their actions and the time my wife and I spent sorting out this mess. As going through statements to prove we had paid the £200 and the letters and emails were all to consuming and stressful not to mention the threatening letters they had sent.

Great service from Claudia and Mel

Great service from Claudia and Mel in a recent house sale. Everything was explained clearly and responded to swiftly so I had total confidence in their work. We were supported at every stage and they helped us move from initial offer to completion in 11 weeks. Highly recommend them.

Very good service at a good price

We used Thackray Williams to represent us when purchasing our first home.
Our vendor needed to complete within 6 weeks - Stephanie at Thackray Williams made this possible.
We also used their services for a Declaration of Trust - Caroline helped us complete this document. She was really brilliant.
The prices were very good and reasonable - I would highly recommend.

Utter shambles

I have been doing lease extension with my landlord, (prior to selling flat to 3rd party). David Gibson at Thackray Williams is acting for the landlord. But I will be paying his fees.
The entire process should be relatively simple as the landlord and I agreed on all terms very early on, but been going on for months. Has been held up by his incredible slowness. My solicitors regularly saying waiting for responses / action from him. The landlord has told me he never calls her back. And doesn't reply to emails unless chased.
His lack of pro-activity and lack of even reacting to pleadings to hurry up are ignored.
Solicitors generally have a bad name with the public and he is prime example of why.
Looks like now won't be done before buyer's mortgage offer runs out.
Very frustrated!!!
Hoping this review may goad into action! And as a warning.

Solid support

I'm new into buying a house (with Redrow) and can't recommend Marcus from the new-build team enough. He's incredibly helpful, always responds promptly to emails and liases with the Redrow team to give satisfactory results. Stellar service, 10/10

Poor Service Avoid

Called the Bromley branch last week. Initial contact ok. Eventually spoke to a solicitor about a lease. She promised to send a mail. Never came back?

If they're poor now, what would they be like after charging you and undertaking work?

Avoid this company.

Needed some employment law advice

Needed some employment law advice. Rang two local law firms on spec. One quoted a figure higher than my known budget, and standard fee, and said a lawyer would call me. Two weeks later no call received. At TW put through straight away and the matter dealt with quickly and competently. Great advice and everything delivered at pace. A rarity it appears these days. A please to deal with. Highly recommended. (West Wickham branch). Thank you
