I had booked a table for 6 persons on New Years Eve at the Bailiwick Englefield Green. Our table was booked for 1945 and we arrived on time. We had pre booked all our meals on the Festive menu at £60 per head. The waiter asked us if we would like to have the special of the day a Beef Wellington with a supplement of £10 each. Two people took up the offer.
However after nearly 45 minutes of waiting the meal arrived and both Beef Wellingtons were cold and were returned to the kitchen. The remaining guests had their main courses but no vegetables. These turned up nearly fifteen minutes later when the new Beef Wellingtons were returned.
So to the bill. The vegetables were charged as extras of £30 even though it was a set meal price. Half a carafe of house wine (500ml) was charged at £24 each. The quality of the meal was very average and not worth the £60 a head plus vegetables.
All in all a very disappointing night at the Bailiwick. Never again. Beware of the price hikes when visiting.
