Have just attempted to start a Level 3 course in 'Understanding Mental Health', but after about ten minutes realised it's all a complete sham. The content is barely even written in English, and it's crystal clear that whoever is writing has absolutely no idea what they're talking about; they might as well have just pulled a random person off the street and told them, 'right, you're going to write about psychosis, depression and...stuff like that...'!
Psychosis is described as - quoting verbatim - "a very serious type of mental illness and they can often hallucinate and delusions which keeps them out of touch with reality. Hallucinations are false ideas, images and perceptions of something that is not there".
I was then asked to answer 'based on 5310 people with dementia, which number will have dementia with lewy bodies?' - totally unrelated, totally random.
On eating disorders, I was told - again verbatim: "Eating disorders are a mental health condition. They are catagorised as abnormal eating habits. They may behave and concentrate excessively on their weight and appearance. This can cause damaging affects to their health."
This pattern of abject incompetence continues throughout the first section of the course.
The course cost me £330 - which apparently was reduced from £400-and-something originally - and, yes, I should have read the reviews before parting with that cash. There is also the fact that their cancellation policy is worded in such a way that, as soon as you use your details to log in to the website, you immediately waive all rights to a refund.
This is clearly a very shady organisation, run by shady individuals, promoting sham educational courses to lure naive students into paying them vast sums of money for nothing in return. I would love nothing more than for these individuals to be brought out into the light. I hope this review will contribute toward that process.
Please, please, please do not make the mistake I did. Do not give these individuals a penny. Avoid them like you would the plague.

Very good experience.
My tutor was always there to help whenever I needed.
Completing my course through The Learning College has provided me with a great deal of flexibility, especially whilst balancing family and work life. I am very grateful of Harry’s initial support by providing a good understanding of the course requirements and to support registration completion. I really appreciate the service and guidance my tutor, Sheila, has provided throughout the course. The course material itself was very clear and easily accessible.
They are rude Avoid Avoid just want money
I had a very bad experience with this company. I tried to cancel my course immediately and even sent more than 100 emails, but they completely ignored me.
I only opened the account for 2 days, did not study, and still they keep taking money from my account every month. This feels like being forced to pay for something I never used.
A professional company should respect cancellation requests and stop unauthorized charges. I hope others will be careful before signing up.

I signed up for the Level 4 HLTA course at TLC while I was halfway through my second Master’s in Education. With 16 years in teaching, and leadership roles, I thought this would be a useful refresher. Sadly, it hasn’t turned out that way, and I feel future learners should know a few things before they enrol.
The good bits first: signing up and paying was easy, the online platform is simple to use, and when feedback eventually came, it was constructive. In fact, my earlier assignments were praised — comments like: “Good suggestions here, with some nice examples – Good research stated on implementing language structures. Well done.” and “You write very well, with good spelling and punctuation… good research cited. Keep this up.” So it’s not that my work was poor.
Where it went wrong: once you start, the payment plan can’t be cancelled. If you stop paying, it’s treated as a breach of contract and could affect your credit rating. There’s no proper guidance on essay format, so I ended up experimenting with four units before figuring out what they’d actually accept, each taking 4–5 weeks to be marked. Some assignments were over 4,000 words, which makes the “could finish in 6 months” (claim during my sign up) unrealistic.
The breaking point: one reflective assignment (about my own teaching practice) was flagged as “AI-generated.” I was told to either pay a £125 fine (about 31% of the full course fee) or withdraw. This was based only on Turnitin’s AI checker — even though Turnitin themselves say results are not always accurate and should not be used as the sole basis for action. My appeal was rejected.
After that, my tutor wrote: “I have started to mark Unit 5… and unfortunately, plagiarism has been detected therefore I cannot pass this work as your own. As per the terms and conditions I have been instructed to stop assessing your file.” Since then, my last two unit submissions have been left hanging — no feedback at all.
I know the college may reply quoting awarding body regulations, terms and conditions, or system logs (as they’ve done to others). It also seems their required study hours don’t take personal study time into account, especially since the required books aren’t even available on their website. Anyway, I’m not here to argue point for point. I just want to share my experience honestly so others can make their own decision.
In short: yes, the platform is easy to use and tutors can be helpful, but the risks outweigh the benefits. Read the Ts & Cs carefully before signing, and be prepared for delays, unclear expectations, and even the chance of your work being unfairly flagged as AI.
A word is enough for the wise.

The Learning College provided a highly accessible platform, which enabled me to study for HLTA qualification. The online lessons, structured my self-directed study well and I was able to work at my own pace.
In particular, Sheila Green, my personal tutor, provided great support and reflective comments that complimented my learning style and enabled me to successfully pass. Sheila was always available for my many queries and discussions and was very professional and supportive.
The Learning College were also extremely adaptive to my own additional needs and able to inclusively support my learning and extend my course after I notified them of my neurological condition. I needed to resubmit a few of the modules, but Sheila was very supportive in her marking and was able to indicate what criteria needed more research or examples of my own practice.
I would highly recommend The Learning College for students who are able to commit to self-directed study and wish to achieve HLTA status formally. This was a great experience for me and challenged me to study hard and work independently and be proud of my final achievements. Thank you also to my tutor Sheila, who inspired me to successfully apply for a HLTA position.

Avoid The Learning College - Terrible Experience
I enrolled in the NVQ in Understanding Mental Health, which includes five units. Shockingly, I failed all five units, not just once, but multiple times despite putting in genuine effort and using proper references.
They accused me of plagiarism on every unit, yet refused to show me exactly what was supposedly plagiarised. They use Turnitin, and it seems even properly quoted material is flagged without context or explanation. It’s hard to believe that every unit I submitted was plagiarised, multiple times, when I wrote them myself. For that to be true, I’d have to have deliberately stolen word-for-word work from three different past students, which is simply not the case.
The most concerning part? One unit was failed with feedback saying, “I have referred this based on the plagiarism found in your other units,” - meaning they didn’t even assess the actual work before failing me.
After paying hundreds for the course, I was told I’d need to pay an extension fee and a £125 reassessment fee. The focus here feels more on profit than education.
My advice? If you’re looking to gain a qualification, go with a more transparent and supportive provider. My experience with The Learning College has been stressful, frustrating, and disappointing.
Before deciding to go with this company, take time to read and believe all the 1 star reviews they have - I wish I had. I've decided to cut my losses and give up on this NVQ. Its simply not worth the time or money invested.

I could follow the course and the feedback provided was very helpful. I didn't feel like I had failed at all through the qualification and had the relevant support. I would recommend the course to others and look at what other courses are available in the future.

I had an outstanding experience completing the CACHE Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education with The Learning College. The course was well-structured, covering essential topics such as child development, safeguarding, and communication, with comprehensive learning materials that included detailed guides and relevant assessments. My tutor, Sheila Green, was exceptional, providing timely feedback and guidance and the online learning platform was user-friendly, allowing me to access course materials, submit assignments, and track my progress easily. The administrative team was also efficient, friendly, and helpful, responding promptly to my queries and concerns. Overall, I felt supported, motivated, and confident throughout the learning journey, and I would highly recommend The Learning College to anyone seeking a reputable and supportive learning environment for CACHE qualifications.

Absolutely abysmal service. The course was horrific, spelling errors and grammatical errors were constant to the point the units and exam were illegible and impossible to complete. There was also no way to contact either the tutor nor any other member of staff for advice or help. I eventually had to withdraw due to this whole debacle and start the course elsewhere. This process was also horrific, there was no easy way to contact or get advice on how to do it and my emails of enquiry were also ignored. Their policy is also at a great disadvantage to users. They seem like a scam company. I definitely would not recommend to anyone.
