Beware of this fridge magnet company

I needed a faulty power point replaced and I sent SMS to thelocalelectrician, a fridge magnet delivered to my letterbox. “Good morning, are you the owner of the property or are you renting?” I texted back “owner, but what’s that got to do with it?” No answer to that but he/she said “I could organise an electrician to have a look for you.” I replied no I want a quote first. Not long after that Henry of H4ORCE Electrical called and quoted $180. I said OK thanks but I have other quotes to get, then I will let you know. He then said well I will give you pensioners discount so it will be $120. Well I thought what a big reduction, I won’t beat that, so he got the job. He arrived in the afternoon and after checking the faulty power point, he said I could have a double power point for $180. I said no thanks, knowing that a double uses the same wiring as a single, only the plate is different. He then went out the front alone to turn the power off. After some minutes he returned and said the fuse box had a wrong part installed and just plugging in at a power point you could get electrocuted. I went out the front with him and he showed me the wrong part between the Clipsal parts on either side. He then took the lever of the wrong part in his fingers and pulled it down but stopped in the middle, showing it would not trip to OFF. He did it again and I could see it would not go down. He did not ask me to try it. The whole board had been fully upgraded costing $1,100, 5 years ago by 2 electrical employees of a company. Henry offered to replace the part and it would cost $300. I reluctantly agreed. When I asked how long it would take, he said about half hour. He did it in a matter of a few minutes then did the power point. I was still totally bewildered as to how 2 guys would install the wrong part just to save the cost of one Clipsal of an $1,100 bill. Henry asked for $480. I said how did you get that? $120 + $300 is not $480. I said it only took you a few minutes anyway, not half an hour. He agreed to my offer of $320, being $120 for the power point and $200 for the fuse box part. I was still far from happy and I told him so. Henry left the wrong part that he had replaced and next day I tried it. To my amazement, it worked fine. Tripped to the OFF position every time. I texted him to ask how come it tripped for me but would not trip for you? He did not answer that but said it was the wrong part. Yes, I then found out it was the wrong part and the Clipsal part only costs $29. I later checked my security cams and found he went to his truck looking for something in 3 places before he went to the fuse box and it was 8 minutes before he returned inside the house, ample to change the Clipsal part with wrong part. Either 2 electricians in 2020, just to save $29, installed and were aware that the fuse box had a wrong part that could cause fire or Henry substituted the wrong part. Don’t be fooled by thelocalelectrician. They are not local, 40km from my address. They probably deliver fridge magnets all over Sydney and have a network of electricians ready to fleece you. If they ask are you the owner or renter, say renter. This only works if you are the owner as the renter would say, that’s up to the owner not me. I strongly recommend anyone using this company or any electrician to do electrical work, go with them when they go out to the fuse box to turn the power off. Watch everything they do.

My signature was cut and pasted onto a contract I hadn't seen!

We had an issue with power tripping out. Called, the electrician was prompt and well mannered, told me the issue was in the meter box. Said it needed work urgently. He would send me a quote via email.
I'm not sure if I was stressed or he wasn't clear, but when he took my credit card details to pay the deposit, I had to sign on his tablet - assuming the signature was for the transaction - $550. He did no work, just looked and arranged to come back Monday.
I received the quote by email that afternoon, along with a comprehensive contract- with MY SIGNATURE PASTED ONTO IT!
I called another electrician, who came and looked, said there was NO URGENT work needed, it could do with an upgrade, but certainly not urgent. Problem was probably a bit of steam in a power point!
I emailed The Local Electrician asking for a refund of the difference between the call out fee and the amount paid ... no response.
I'm pretty sure it's not legal to cut and paste a signature onto a contract a client hasn't seen, but I will find out from Fair Trading - I may be wrong.

Ring around there are cheaper and better services out there

We previously used TLE to check some wiring in the wall. During this time they checked my fuse box and said it was quite dated and most appliances weren't on the breaker. They quoted $2000 for the work. Due to having an issue with another electrician we went ahead. We recently began having issues with one of the fuses shutting off our power. As previously TLC attend and quote, then leave to come back another day. I'd imagine being able to work on a fuse box doesn't count as a complex job and most electricians would have access to additional fuses, so it's hardly an emergency service. After getting two other electricians to have a look, not only have I been told the parts they used were not the best on the market, I was told what I paid was obscenely inflated, with one electrican saying he would typically quote just $600 for the work done, a whole $1400 cheaper. I would have at least thought paying that much would have entitled me to having the best parts but they cut costs. Fortunately the electrician who quoted $600 has fixed the issue and not only fixed it but did it for free. My advice throw the fridge magnet in the bin and ring around, these people are too expensive for their work and the whole pay for a quote, pay another deposit to book for the actual work, then pay an inflated price isn't worth it.

A Great Level 2 Electrician

Level 2 electricians seem to like to charge like wounded bulls, but Nick in the Baulkham Hills Area is so damn quick to turn up, do the job fast with minimal fuss and not charge through the roof. Highly recommended.

Great electricians who price fairly

Great electricians who price fairly. We contacted Chris at the Local electrician to help my family with a switchboard upgrade. Within 40 mins of placing a call he was at our property and walked us through the entire process. Highly recommend Chris and his team to friends and family!

Fairly priced and great level 2 electrician service

Chris and the whole the Local Electrician team were great to work with. Chris and woova came on time, explained everything in detaile and gave us a comprehensive quote. The service was then carried out first thing the next morning, which was a huge relief to me and my wife. Highly recommended to anyone seeking professional electricians within Sydnye.
