It’s been over A Year Later, Still No Fair Resolution – Extremely Disappointeda year since we…
It’s been over a year since we submitted our hail damage claim with The Personal (claim #R1636844), and we are still fighting to get a fair and accurate settlement. Despite having a replacement cost policy, The Personal has repeatedly relied on undervalued estimates and refused to reassess the claim properly even after we submitted detailed documentation correcting obvious errors in their initial assessment.
Our original estimate misrepresented the quality of materials in our home by no fault of our own— listing builder-grade vinyl siding instead of the premium siding installed, double-glazed windows instead of our actual triple-glazed Low-E windows, and a basic garage door instead of the custom wood-clad, colour-matched door that was damaged. We provided quotes from qualified contractors with evidence and manufacturer specs to back this up.
Instead of correcting their mistake, The Personal escalated the claim to an independent adjuster, who made matters worse by recommending low-cost repairs (painting a damaged garage door and patching siding and window framing) instead of full replacements. Every professional we've consulted has confirmed that these items must be replaced to properly restore the home to pre-loss condition — yet The Personal still refuses to issue a revised payout.
Worse still has been the communication — or lack thereof. Our calls and emails went unanswered for weeks or months at a time. Only after escalating to a manager did we see movement, but even then, it resulted in yet another undervalued offer. We’ve now been told we must wait up to 60 more days while they “internally review” our complaint.
The Personal’s conduct has caused unnecessary stress, wasted countless hours, and left us with a home that still hasn’t been fully repaired a year later. We have exhausted their internal process and will be pursuing the matter with the General Insurance OmbudService.
I cannot in good conscience recommend The Personal Insurance Group. Their handling of this claim has been slow, dismissive, and based on flawed evaluations that fall far short of their contractual obligations. If you’re considering them as your insurer, think twice.
