Really bad delivery service with no updates.

Ordered on 28th august, the works say it will be delivered within 7 days, I have still not received my order, I have contacted them twice by email and once by phone and they have said "it will be delivered soon" I emailed them again and have asked to make a complaint and they have ignored me.

Placed an order one item was missing

Placed an order one item was missing. So had to re order it and wait for a refund. Item still has not arrived and hasn’t even been dispatched. I’m saying they don’t actually have it in stock and are just holding my money. How do I cancel ?

I ordered 3 books online never ever had…

I ordered 3 books online never ever had issue before. 2 arrived but the 3rd one was replaced something completely different contacted customer service they told me too take the incorrect book yo my nearest store and ask for full refund. That can't be right. Then I was asked to write a review I did advising that I didn't get the book so unable to review it didn't meet their guidelines. Managed to find the book on another store and cheaper. Will not order online again.

Not at all impressed.

Got an email to tell me my parcel is delayed. Absolutely no information re why it is delayed or when it will actually arrive. I called the phone number (not a freephone number!) the lines close at 4.30pm! It is Friday so who knows when/if I'll receive my parcel. Don't take people's money if you can't deliver what you offer and if you can't even provide a full time hours helpline number.

Blocking negative reviews

Have shopped online many times but will not again. The books you order are not always the ones you receive, I paid for a special edition yet received a standard edition for the exact same price. This alone is annoying but I understand mistakes can happen. What's unacceptable is blocking honest negative reviews on their website. I wrote an extremely polite and helpful review advising people to buy certain books in store rather than online to ensure they get the item they want and I received an email saying my review didn't match the guidelines (it did!) and therefore would not be published. If the company doesn't want negative reviews then get staff that package up the correct items that people order!!! Silencing customers won't improve anything.

My local store is great!!! Online needs improving.

My local store - Weymouth - is absolutely AMAZING! I’d give them 5 stars! Great book selection, crafts and toys too and the staff are all lovely!!

Newquay store - the man was unhelpful and dismissive though of my enquiry so couldn’t be bothered to find a book I wanted (again, Weymouth helped when I went and asked there afterwards)

The online experience when I ordered a large (£2-300!) order was disappointing though, my items were literally chucked in one big box, no protective packaging, no care for my order, items were damaged and the online service when I complained completely non-existent.

So I will continue shopping in person in local stores but not online unless they sort it out.

Karen from the Ripon store was…

Karen from the Ripon store was extremely helpful today. I went in for a Peppa pig jigsaw for my nephew and came out with that and several other Peppa pig books and even a Peppa pig shopping bag to put all my goodies in! Karen spent time helping me with my purchases. Thank you Karen 🙂

I have ordered from this company on…

I have ordered from this company on many occasions I have noticed the last time I ordered acrylic paint from them its been drastically watered down then I was just looking online at buying some more canvases as my 11yo daughter and her friend used all mine up and the amount they have increased their prices is an absolute joke (considering the quality of their items) I will not be using this company again how the hell are they still trading

I'll managed company.

I have unfortunately noticed that the works company have limited choice online, and do not keep certain well sold items well stocked. An example of this is the wool in the stockton branch did sell a certain type of wool, that I require more of, for a project, but they have since sold out,and do not sell this online. Thus I must purchase the same wool from amazon.
This is not a well managed company,nor do they really value customer feedback.

Website is misleading

I normally go to my nearest store to buy bubble machines and 1 litre bubble solution but thought I’d stock up as my son uses them everyday and we are having a party tomorrow (it costs us a small fortune every month) and the store was running low, when I ordered them yesterday the website stated it would be delivered the next working day (today) but today I received an email stating the delivery had been downgraded to standard 3 working days as it was a large/bulk order, this is very frustrating because it doesn’t state this when ordering online so now I have to go into the store today to buy some more and then wait for the delivery, I will definitely be looking into somewhere else to buy from now on, website not stating this is very misleading!!!!!

What a great store

What a great store. Never had an issue with ordering online. They always have a great selection of books in store and at a very good price, cheaper than a lot of other stores/online.

Poor website and service

Poor website. Every card payment failed when I wanted to order for click & collect during my holiday stay in the UK. Seems like they don't support non-UK issued cards and therefore discriminate foreigners. I was forced to use PayPal for this reason, which has very high foreign exchange rates.

The book I had ordered arrived filthy. I was able to get it off, but this is not how you're supposed to sell new/mint books.

Nikki and Holly were so kind

The Manager in my local store in Darlington, Nikki, was really friendly, and Holly, the sales person was so helpful and friendly. Holly helped with several of my requests to find products I was looking for, and was happy, smiling and patient, explaining when stock might come in again in a week or so. What a refreshingly nice shop it was to visit. :)

What a shame

What a shame. People in the store always very helpful and I shop there regularly. Online customer services are truly disappointing and robotic. Flat ‘no’, no customer understanding, discussion or suggestion. Online could learn from the in store customer experience, and create a brand environment that engages and goes the extra mile, to understand the customer experience. What a shame.

The Belfast store is brilliant

The Belfast store is brilliant, more spacious than appears at first and very well stocked. Staff are very helpful and always asking if need help. I bought some canvases for my daughter and the 3 for 2 is a great deal. I walk by everyday and the store always looks very clean, tidy and busy.

Absolutely terrible experience

Absolutely terrible experience buying online from The Works. I bought a jigsaw mat and a pack of tennis balls. Whoever had packed this had ripped open the jigsaw mat box to put the pack of balls inside. The mat was damaged and is unusable as a jigsaw mat needs to be perfectly flat. This was delivered to my parents house who are not the type of people to complain so they kept both. The tennis balls are also terrible with zero bounce and have now gone to the family dog! Will avoid The Works in future.

A fantastic service today at the Newton Abbot branch via Sharon and Sara

A fantastic service today. Sharon and Sara from the Newton Abbot store both showed empathy and compassion as well as recommending items to help me with my mother-in-law who has Alzheimer’s. I had already picked some items up such as the wooden boxes and wooden wreath for painting (hand eye coordination) but these two fabulous people also pointed out the large print colouring in books and also tried upselling with shopping bags and batteries whilst I was at the till. Thank you to both of you 😊 and well done to The Works for such a wonderful team ❤️
