Never used Thrifty before but will do from now on when needing a car. Didn’t have to travel far.

At the time of booking no mention was made of ID requirements. When collecting the vehicle I was asked to go back home twice to print the following: Bank Statement, Utility Bill, Driving code in addition to providing my Driving Licence and Passport! I was also told that I needed to pay £750 deposit. I had planned on pick up at 12pm but instead left at 2pm.
Please make people aware of the deposit and ID requirements at the time of booking.
I had booked an electric vehicle, which when enquired prior to rental I was told it would be fully charged - on collection however there was only enough charge for 50 miles.
There is also a mileage limit of 100 miles per day of rental which is mentioned in the “fine print”.
The manager at the Preston beanch did offer a replacement vehicle for no additional cost and made some other concessions but overall not a good experience.

I had an excellent experience with Thrifty Car and Van Rental UK. The entire process was smooth and professional from start to finish. I was assisted by James, who was absolutely fantastic—friendly, efficient, and incredibly helpful throughout. He made everything so easy and stress-free. It’s rare to receive such outstanding customer service these days, and James truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend Thrifty, especially if you’re lucky enough to be served by James!

I’ve worked with Thrifty UK and Thrifty Yeovil for two consecutive years on a large corporate booking, and I couldn’t recommend them more highly. From start to finish, the entire process is seamless: Ryan Harris’s team is incredibly friendly, professional, and accommodating. They make the planning stage effortless, always showing great flexibility and a genuine willingness to go above and beyond to deliver exactly what we need.
The vehicles are always in immaculate condition, and the check-in and check-out process is quick and straightforward, which is a huge plus for a busy schedule. Their customer service consistently exceeds expectations - no other car hire company compares in terms of reliability, ease, and overall experience.
We will absolutely continue working with Thrifty UK and Thrifty Yeovil. They’re a pleasure to deal with and a standout in their field.

I hired and paid for a week's rental through Easycar - the rental was sub contracted to Thrifty.
Despite paying Easycar I returned to the UK to find I had been charged £304 by Thrifty - bringing the total for a week's car hire to more than £500. On investigation it transpired I had been charged for an enhanced insurance policy - despite already taking one out with Easycar. Their response to my complaints thus far - tough luck.

Have the pleasure of hiring various vehicles from the team at Thrifty Hull and always find them helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make sure I get what I hire as well as making the sure the vehicle is clean inside and out and ready to go.

I pre booked a six day car rental from Exeter Thrifty and suffered a 70 minute delay caused, apparently, by a Thrifty computer glitch. When returning the vehicle I reported some minor scuffs to the outer wheel alloys caused by me. However Thrifty told me that their insurers had a set price of £250 for this repair - quite excessive it seems. I offered to supply them with a couple of quotes from trusted repairers using their photos but, to date there has been no response - how rude! In addition they’ve not been prepared to make any financial allowance for the inconvenience of my schedule delay other than, apparently, waiving a £34 admin charge. There was no invoice detailing this. I also mentioned to Thrify that when I refuelled the vehicle to full, around the corner to their depot, that there was a significant 66 mile difference to the mileage displayed to when I took delivery (538 versus 472 miles). The day after returning the car £250 was extracted from my deposit without sending me an invoice showing how the repair costs were calculated (ie: labour, vat etc) - surely any customer is entitled to expect that. How very unprofessional! I have no words other than hope they may yet redress this by way of apology and financial adjustment. Come on Thrifty, do the decent thing and demonstrate that you are not profiteering from the situation!

DO NOT USE Thirfty Spain. They are nothing but rip-off merchants and theives. They will add insurance to your booking without asking, so if you REALLY need to use these then check everything you sign thoroughly. They will make it out like you're signing the refundable deposit, but you are also signing extra insurance and extras you didn't want or ask for. They also charged us over €70 for fuel even though we returned the car with a full tank. They take the money from your card a few days after you return the car to try and scam you so you don't challenge them. I'm trying to retrieve through booking.com as we speak but I'm not very hopeful I'll get anything.

We were supplied with a courtesy car by our insurers. When the car was returned after 3 weeks they stung us with a parking fee and a cleaning bill.
The parking fee was rescinded as it was a mistake by the car park’s cameras.
However, they would not budge on the cleaning fee, threatening us with court proceedings. With a terminally ill son to look after we weren’t up for the fight.
So be prepared to return the car in showroom condition or get a valeting charge.

Terrible experience with this so-called car rental company.
Absolutely awful service — after wasting 8 days of our time, they refused to provide the car. They asked us to make changes to our insurance 16 different times, only to leave us with nothing in the end. Completely unprofessional and unreliable.

I was given a courtesy car by my insurance company Chruchill after another driver had hit my car. The vehicle was dropped off after I provided 101 documents by the Dudley Branch. Ref No: DDY60542 Vehicle itself a Ford Kuga was a lovely drive. When the vehicle was dropped off by a Samir I explained that I had not been provided with a full tank it stated 319 miles of fuel remaining on the dashboard. His response was that it is minus the fuel to get to my house. When I returned the vehicle, I returned it with 327 miles, clearly this shows I returned it with more fuel than when it was given to me! But no Dudley branch of Thrifty then decided to charge me on my card that they had taken a deposit of £1 a fee of £18.97 not sure what for. So I rang them to clarify I spoke to an incredibly rude man called Alan who told me not to go by the miles of fuel left but by the needle! When I explained that the money should not have been taken until they had spoken to me he said well I called you and left a message! Not everyone can answer the phone when they have a job to do Alan. I asked to speak to a manager but was told he was on holiday for 2 weeks. How convenient. When I called back the branch after Alan had put the phone down on me I spoke to the Samir who had dropped the vehicle off, he denied the conversation or to the fact I had pointed out that I had not been given the car on a full tank and was then told it is the customer that foots the fuel to and from the car being collected! I have now called Churchill to lodge a complaint with them. I have had courtesy cars before but I have never experienced someone taking money without my authorisation or at least have the couresty to speak to me first Alan! And when challenged for clarification putting the phone down on the customer! I will never use Thrifty or again or accept a couresty car from them....

The Yeovil branch have helped me out massively this year. Friendly, helpful staff and great cars. Would definitely recommend renting a car or van with these guys.

Checked on line, as you do, for the best price for a four day hire and to my surprise Thrifty came out as the most competitive. Booked the hire through the website, nice, clear & simple and quickly received confirmation.
On the day of collection I went to my local branch in Yeovil and was warmly welcomed by Ryan (the branch manager) who went through all of the necessary paperwork & documents quickly & efficiently. At this point and to my surprise Ryan decided to upgrade my hire to a lovely new Volvo XC90 hybrid - what a stunning vehicle and I was very satisfied as this was a lovely car and very comfortable. Walk around checks completed and a brief overview of the controls completed and Ryan double checked that I was happy and confident with the vehicle and off I went.
On returning the vehicle, I was warmly welcomed again by another member of the branch team who checked over the vehicle noting that all was well. Deposit returned and Ryan again checked that everything was okay with the hire and I said how great it was and how impressed I had been dealing with the branch and that I wouldn’t hesitate in using them again.
Thanks Ryan & the team at Thrifty Car Rental Yeovil for a great experience from start to finish.

This company operates like a scam. They take money from customers without consent, ignore all communication, and refuse to issue refunds even after being shown clear proof that the charges were baseless. Their behaviour is dishonest, abusive, and completely unacceptable. I've reported them to Trading Standards and other authorities — no business that treats people this way should be allowed to continue operating.
