Warning Bells Ringing

I submitted a silver pocket watch hallmarked 1895 for repair on 2nd February 23 originally for a hinge repair. Four months have past and from speaking to Ray by telephone about two months ago he informed me the hinge had been repaired. He stated the mechanism was badly corroded and a part had to be made. I asked for the return but he said that was difficult as the mechanism was in pieces on his desk. Six weeks later I spoke to the receptionist who returned my call saying the watch would be placed near the top of the list and would be given more priority. I have now sent another email reminder.
After reading some of the reviews on Trust Pilot I am beginning to regret sending the watch and hope there is no need for any further action following my email today.

Unprofessional and VERY, VERY hard to get a reply from!

I'm have a jewellery shop and sent a watch to Time Repair Services in the middle of 2021. it had to be returned under guarantee. several months and emails passed until it was returned. within days it was not working properly again. cut a long story short, the watch has been back now five times with many months passing before it was returned each time, during which my frustrated emails and 'phone calls were unanswered. it was returned a few months ago and, guess what, its doing exactly the same thing again i.e. behaving erratically. Not what you want in a watch. This time I've asked for my money back several times and, guess what again? Yes, you've got it - absolutely nothing! I would steer very clear and one final point. Apparently, he is no longer Rolex registered. Take what you will from that!

Another unhappy customer.

Another unhappy customer.
Sent an old timex back to Ray after he was confident he could fix the watch after timex couldn’t (rather they can’t be bothered - so I’m told) after hinds sent it away to timex.
Anyway, 6 months later and about 20 emails and 12 phone calls (he never returned calls ) I threatened small claims against him he duly sent the watch back.
He did manage to get the watch working again but managed to break the internal surround.
Oh he loved telling me about the motorbikes and broken legs too..
Avoid, unless local and can keep tabs on him

A 10-Yr-Old Memory.

This is the result of my remembering something after ten years. I posted a pocket-watch to Ray Brown for repair & return in about 2008. It had to have been so, because when I spoke to him on the 'phone, he said he was recovering from a broken leg sustained in a motor-cycle accident. He sounded plausible, so I sent the watch. I never heard anything more from him, so if he's still in business, I'd be surprised, given the other reviews I've seen of him. At what point does retention of someone's property become theft?

I sent a watch well over a year ago to …

I sent a watch well over a year ago to Ray Brown (Time Repair Services - on the Isle of Wight). Initially, he confidently assured me that he had the ability to manufacture parts needed if they cannot be obtained elsewhere. After a while, he changed his tune to "I am gathering parts for your watch". In the last 3 months, he has assured me that the watch had been fixed and was just being tested to ensure that it worked as it should (did I mention he "fixed" this watch before and returned it - only for it to prove as defective as it ever was?). During this latter period, he (at my repeated request), promised to send back my watch no fewer than 5 times!! He failed each of the 1st 4 times and never once did he call me to explain or forewarn. This week, being at the very end of my tether, I called him twice to explain the legal consequences of not delivering the watch to me this week. The watch arrived today - completely untouched and still not working.

Ray Brown is not only completely incompetent but incapable of the truth and delivering on his promises. He is a disaster - keep well away from him!
