I was looking for someone to take over the website and advertising to free myself up to do other pressing issues. Clearly SEO is a crowded marketplace and anyone trying to start a business is bombarded with companies trying to get your business.
I chose total SEO based on reviews, and as said above I wanted someone to manage the website ect.

I had a godaddy site and was steered to Shopify by total SEO, and was then expected to learn the ropes with Shopify and create a brand new website, this took ages and went against my intentions of cutting back in the hours spent on the website. I then got a free, unasked for, evaluation of my Shopify website, and was told it was not upto scratch and a colleague of total-seo would build me a new one. £1.7k later, and with minimal consultation with myself, I obtained a web-site that was a letdown, it's a mess and not compatible with Google ads, which total seo failed to address, but still went ahead and set up expensive advertising that has been a flop.

Google has suspended most advertising as the website fails to meet their basic standards.

As for the total SEO assistance for my business I received a blog once a month, and a report telling me some key words were up, and some were down. I don't believe this helped any sales. In short it felt like I was receiving a tick box service with no real push to get the website up the rankings.
In short if you wish to waste £6k-£12k a year on some snake oil, then pile in here, otherwise do what I should have done in the first place and learn about SEO, and do it yourself.

I note your reply Simon (Total SEO manager) and would not normally respond further, but in this instance, I feel compelled to do so.

Firstly, any emails I sent to the web developer were private and not intended for your review. At no point did I grant permission for these to be shared or published by yourself.

Regarding the website, your company initially advised that I move from my existing platform to Shopify. I was informed you do not develop websites and I would need to build it myself, which I did. Subsequently, you advised that you had a web designer who could enhance the site. Despite my reluctance, you carried out an unsolicited review of the new site and again recommended your designer, to which I eventually agreed.

The invoice for this web work was £1,700, which i naively thought would buy a state of the art professional, SEO compliant, website.
To my disappointment I received a logo that strongly resembled a cheap BP logo.
I deeply disagree with your assertion that i did not express unhappiness with this process as through email, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the web designer over their work, which prompted the only phone call I received during the website construction—this focused solely on the logo, and revolved around he knew best.
A week later, and without any further website discussion, I received an email stating that the site was finished. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
The banner image resembled a toxic sewage outflow, and the color scheme looked as though it had been inspired by Ronald McDonald’s wardrobe.
The content was not SEO compliant, the blogs had no links to the website, in short it was a basic throw together job, and was dreadful.

Whilst you state you're not directly responsible, you and your staff repeatedly pushed for this firm to build my website, and it’s clear your businesses work closely together, and support each other's services.

(I've consulted a shopify web designer and their take on your website starts......"this custom design is even worse than shopifys free themes" and it gets worse from there!)

Regarding marketing, under your management, my advertising spend increased from £0 (on my original site) to £600 per month.
With this budget, virtually any product or service would have seen increased traffic, so taking sole credit for improved performance is, at best, debatable.

In addition to advertising costs you charged £700 per month in fees.

I raised the point with your staff —whether spending upto £1,300 per month on advertising only, and cutting you out, might have yielded a better return, which received no answer.

For the cost, I received one blog per month (without links to the website, or any marketing ie Facebook ect), and one email outlining key word rankings, which showed no trend(s).

Even though I work in a niche market the rankings were unimpressive, and each month as many fell as went up, and I disagree that you influenced any SEO rankings.
I did bring rankings up with your staff, who blamed Google upheavals for failures.

After some five months I've called it a day, and due to your response I've dropped you to one star. This was money wasted!

I'm reflecting on my experience, and it's genuine feedback with no malice intended.

Great people to work with, Alen and Annie, nicely written articles. results are gradually getting better, My industry is very flooded so takes longer than average to get results.

Being a complete Noob when it comes to SEO and Online Strategy I reached out to Total SEO & Marketing in the hope of getting some advice on what I was doing right and ultimately, what I was doing wrong.

Yes, they asked to work with me afterwards, but why wouldn't they.
