What a train, service and staff are a credit to Trenitalia.

This is specifically for the Frecciarossa service from Lyon to Paris. I know many other routes with Trenitalia have a very poor reputation but this was outstanding.
First, the fares were very, very competative. Very reasonable with upgrades to buisiness class very often offered during booking at very reasonable additional supplementary cost.

The trains themselves are Hitachi Frecciarossa 1000's which are beautiful trains, immaculately clean, well laid out and very comfortable even in standard class. The ride was smooth as silk and service, especially in buisiness class was first rate.
What was really nice was the trolley service available in all classes, with a small complementary snack and drinks provided in buisiness and above.

If only Trenitalia would or could extend its service to Lille (to link up with Eurostar) and Brussels I would be a very happy bunny as would my family.
Well done Trenitalia France, it shows what a state run railway can achieve, Italy can be justifiably proud of such a route, train and service.

Trenitalia abusive and not accessible; Sala Blu service is fake

Appalling treatment by Trenitalia for passenger with a knee injury/crutch. No phone numbers for Sala Blu in any city work/are answered to make advance arrangements. Email if you can find it is handled incompetently and offhandedly, and with no further responses after information is given, no confirmation anyone will help getting you and your bag up into or out of a train. No help getting into the train at Brig despite prior request; no confirmation at a foreign phone number they jammed in their system with a Swiss city code, bafflingly, though it was clear this was a United States mobile number. But also on departure date received an email indicating they had canceled any service. The unprofessional female conductor with gelled spiked hair on the international train from Brig to Milano on February 22 leaving Brigat 5:14 PM showed open hostility at crutch situation, even demanding to see a Swiss Half fare pass that was not used to buy this full-price Trenitalia ticket. Open, pointless harassment. This conductor made no appearance on the platform at Brig, was nowhere to be found to offer help or anything. Stated nowhere is the policy that Sala Blu services for passengers with limited mobility will only aid passengers with a single bag. Stated nowhere is that there is an app for Sala Blu-- and perhaps that is the better way to find somebody there though I doubt it; the Sala Blu website points everyone to dead links. Finally, an email to Sala Blu written in Italian by a now sympathetic seatmate on the actual train to Milan was answered as the train was close to pulling into Milan. Turns out Sala Blu will help get you off the train, but you have to beg for help to get passenger with damaged leg and diminished mobility off the train platform with that one bag and into their offices buried in Milano Centrale. Sala Blu then refuses further help, to convey passenger to any door in the terminal, and tries to throw the problem at Kipoint--merely a very poorly reviewed luggage storage service within the station that many reviewers (also) claim is a scam. Bottom line: Sala Blu is a false service solely designed to emplace and remove wheelchair passengers from trains so the railroad doesn't end up in court, one imagines, and that is ALL. The expectation is that one is traveling with a companion seemingly. Sala Blu a fig-leaf service designed to make Trenitalia appear accessible when it most definitely is not, with staffers openly hostile to the person with the limited mobility applying at every juncture of the journey including days in advance for help and guidance. The app actually claims in English you can use it to "get assistance at all stages of your trip." If only. That is a baldfaced LIE; the service was obstructive at every turn starting with even reaching them and an insistence they be addressed in Italian. And THEN: would not even help get me to the door of the train station they purport to operate from.

No refund for strike after more than 6 months

I booked tickets for travel from Venice to Florence. On the day the company went on strike and I was told to apply for a refund, which I did a few days later on 20th June 2024. This was acknowledged. I called a few weeks later and was told that I should receive this within a week or two due to a large number of claims. I heard nothing. I filed a complaint on 14th November 2024. Again this was acknowledged, but nearly two months on, still no reply. If I could rate this company zero, I would.

Terrible service for paying tickets

Terrible service for paying and changing tickets. If you don't change ticket before the planned time departure (because of a delay to the train, a missed connection, or a last minute change) the whole amount of the ticket is lost. Changing the ticket on the train costs 5 euros, which is less than paying twice. However the personnel who does that is very condescending and unprofessional.

capotreni scortesi

I’ve missed my train. How can I use my ticket?

After the departure time of your booked train, you cannot request a refund. For some types of tickets, it is possible to ask for a ticket change and/or to board a train other than the one you originally booked. sul sito di treni italia c’è scritto questo quindi se si perde un treno si puo salire su un altro facendolo presente eppure con noi il capotreno è stato molto scortese ed indisponibile non facendoci salire

I bought a train ticket through the app

I bought a train ticket through the app, and just two minutes after the purchase, the train was delayed by 30 minutes. When I requested a refund, Trenitalia withheld 20% of the original ticket price, presumably as a service fee.

This company has been inefficient for at least the past 20 years. The quality of service has only declined, and now they penalize customers for delays that are clearly their own responsibility.

Frankly, I hope AI eventually replaces 80% of Trenitalia’s workforce, including the ineffective managers.

Once again, Italians have lived up to their Pulcinella reputation.

What I witnessed today is disgraceful

What I witnessed today was nothing short of disgraceful. Over 200 passengers were left stranded on the platform, confused and exasperated, constantly moving back and forth between platforms 23 and 24 for hours, all due to an utter lack of communication and professionalism. The so-called staff provided nothing but evasive, vague answers. Each time we sought clarity, we were only met with more uncertainty. There were no updates, no apologies—just endless delays and a complete lack of concern for the people trying to reach their destinations. As a result, most of us missed our flights, all thanks to this absolute mess of incompetence. This train company should be utterly ashamed of themselves. They've not only ruined our plans and wasted our time, but also left us stranded without offering any explanation. Quite frankly, it’s clear they don’t care.
We were forced to buy another plane ticket for €300. We will be pursuing legal action for this cost.
But first, we demand a full refund for our train tickets.

BUT conveniently, the *reclami-e-suggerimenti*" site IS NOT WORKING

A TOTAL JOKE of a COMPANY

Avoid this company or pay the price

Like a lot of things in Rome this company will do all they can to scam tourists. This was my 4th trip to Rome but first with children. Purchased a child ticket from the machine, as instructed by the useless staff at the station who seemed annoyed to be assisting someone (she was far to busy checking out the massive cold sore on her lip in her iPad camera) got on the train, which was dirty and unkept, then when the ticket inspector came along I was informed I had the wrong children’s ticket dispute it being the only one available at the machine! 64 euro fine or I would have to deal with the police at the station so I had to pay! Scams on tourist like this company seem to run continue to ruin the reputation of Rome and Italy in general. Sham on you Trenitalia!

A pity I cannot put zero stars

A pity I cannot put zero stars. Worst Italian company. I suggest you to never buy a single ticket. Rent a car. Trenitalia is ALWAYS late, and they tell you stupid excuses. Never buy a ticket with a connection. Customer service is horrible.

TRENITALIA - thieves on board and no help from the company

TRENITALIA are not equipped with cameras to spot thieves stealing luggage/handbags!
Though, they have staff to check your ticket to make sure you have paid!
Shame! No respect for the passenger who paid for a safe journey.
The CEO of Trenitalia should be made aware of this fact!
Illaria of Trenitalia, i did contact the Trenitalia numero verde. The staff were useless!!

Notice! so many one star reviews for Trenitalia!!

€100 penalty due to the app

Searched for a train from Rome to the airport, booked and paid all fine. However, the app reversed my departure / arrival resulting in a €100 fine for not having a valid ticked + had to buy tickets for a second time.

When I was able to recreate the error - despite submitting the correct ticket requirements - the ticket inspector just shrugged and said “not my problem”.

So I’m fined and out of pocket through no fault of my own, because the app doesn’t work properly?!! I have screen recorded evidence of the bug, submitted a detail complaint demonstrating their incompetence, and they just ignore.

Beware! Money trap.

We got tickets from Trenitalia at Florence station and proceeded to the entry gate to catch the 08:05 train to Pisa. The staff at the gate checked our tickets and allowed us to proceed. After we boarded the train, a conductor came to check our tickets and informed us that we were required to validate them, and as a result, we had to pay a fine. Despite the fact that there was no sign of validation on the ticket and our purchase time was clearly stated, we were forced to pay. This is simple fraud. The person who controls should have informed us.

Booked 2 months in advance from…

Booked 2 months in advance from domodossola to venice. Would have to change train in Milan. I booked it so that i had 1 hour to change trains in milan. The train left domodossola with a 97min delay which made me miss the train in Milan and i had to buy another one for more than twice the price than i had originally bought. Trying to get a refund has been a nightmare and even if i get it, it's gonna be for the train i missed which was cheap, when the real issue is the amount i had to pay for the train i actually took so i'll always end up losing money even if they give me a full refund for the missed train.

Dont book in advance in italy. Book the train and then book the next one only when you already know you're gonna make it in time. It's gonna be more expensive but only compared to if things would have run flawlessly for you which doesnt seem very likely.
