Truecaller is like a SPAM in itself! Watch out !

After receiving a suspicious call on my iPhone this morning which obviously I didn’t answer, I did a Google search and found an App called Truecaller. I downloaded it only to discover it is as bad as suspicious calls! Lost no time deleting the app ! My advice is do not fall into such dubious traps!

Unlisting my Name and Mobile Number from Truecaller

I requested truecaller team to unlist my name and mobile number from trucaller vide email on 6th March 2025, but my request has not yet been acceded to. I noticed, they are prompt in acknowledging emails but have not yet resolved the issue. I again requested today via email and also through ticket on their website.

This is a nightmare

I have tried to unsubscribe my number and it’s virtually impossible. Uninstalling doesn’t work, they won’t let you go once signed up.
This app also blocks calls you need. I have missed urgent medical calls - because the app didn’t recognise the number. This is dangerous.

You cannot get in touch with them, filling in forms with details and then you get an on screen message ‘talk to us’. Back to rewriting issue, then another message - round and round in circles.
Never hated an app as much!!

It's a scam

It's a scam, Their modus operandi is as follows:
If you have installed it on iphone(otherwise too), They will market their Family plan> you subscribe to Family plan> you find out there is no option to add someone as family plan> you try reaching out to their so call 'Live Support' > you are shocked, there is nothing like live support> you find an automated response saying they would get back in 48 hours > you wait for 48 hours> you don't get their response > you remind them >After waiting another whole day, they come back to ask details> You respond immediately thinking they are live now>They disappear..You are left feeling miserable, duped despite having paid to them already.

Waste of time

Waste of time. App wanted to take over my phone and then didn't even identify callers. All I got was a shitload of ads. Didn't take me long to decide to delete the app.

Scam app do not download!

Do not download their app, I fortunately don’t get many spam calls but had an unknown caller last month so was curious. Yesterday I found out about truecallers app signed up and was confused to as to what features I actually have on the free version nothing was clear, the pricing plan contradicted as to what I expected I’d receive for free so I deleted my account immediately and removed the app.

Today I have had 2 scam callers from different numbers despite not receiving a scam call in months. I have seen many others with this experience after downloading the app. I suspect this app is selling your data, I will make sure this is investigated.

Scammy

Says that they found a name associated with a number, and that you need to sign in. Once you sign in, it says they don't have a name associated with the number yet.
So, lied to get my sign in info. So, scam.

Wont let me search without signing in (eg from Google account). Not prepared for them to spam me for everymore.

Other sites allow me to search without requiring a sign in.

It works but is overly aggressive

It works but is overly aggressive. Even after uninstalling many numbers keep getting blocked. Found how to completely deactivate but there should be a setting that makes the app and service easier to use. It’s problematic when phone numbers keep getting tagged as spam when you are waiting for a call or the number gets tagged as a foreign number when it is local, while also waiting for a call. For legit spam the app seems fine but I do end up missing a lot of legitimate calls as well.

Extorsion Racket!

Extorsion Racket!

I brought a legitimate VoIP number for my business and found that my number is listed as Spam caller on peoples phones. Upon investigating it's TrueCaller's blacklisting of the number.

As the new owner of the number and not associated with any spam/robo calling I requested it be legitimately delisted.

Nope, they won't and instead only sell you there SaaS product:

"We do not whitelist or remove any spam markings on a number. Having said that we offer Truecaller Identity as a SaaS solution to businesses who are looking to get their numbers verified"

Therefore they are not only actively defaming my business with no fair recourse to new businesses that acquire telephone numbers.

It's an extorsion racket in disguise, as a freelancer I won't be paying for there "services" and will now have to buy a whole new telephone number...

Utterly disgraceful and waste of a perfectly good telephone number.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. However, the support team would be able to check to see when the latest spam reports are made on the number, and then, depending on when you had proof of number purchase, could deem if the spam reportings were within the timeframe of the number being purchased.

Even if you were to become a Verified Business partner, that doesn't take away the spam markings - so I don't think that was what the team was giving you information on. They might have been suggesting you make your profile verified so people would stop tagging you as a spam call because they will understand you are a legit business through our verification process.

I suggest going back to them with proof of number purchase dates, and then they can double check to make sure there haven't been any reportings since you bought the number. Hope this helps!

Absolutely not good when coming to…

Absolutely not good when coming to helping with refunds due to glitches in THEIR app. The app glitched and within 10 seconds of me opening my phone truecaller bought the yearly premium subscription which i had no controll over. I emailed them hoping i could get a refund because its a good amount of money for something i barely use. The asked me to send a screenshot of the glitch 3 days later which i couldn't get due to very obvious reasons…

Hi there - it isn't possible for our app to go into your app store account and purchase Premium for you. Like all other apps you would get a subscription for, you have multiple screens you go through which probably require double tap, face recognition, or fingerprint password confirmation. That's not something we would ever do, or even have access to do.

I recently downloaded the Truecaller…

I recently downloaded the Truecaller app and logged in, providing them with my details. Almost immediately, my personal information was accessible to everyone. Since then, I've received multiple unwanted calls, including a fraudulent call and solicitations from a gas line company and an electricity provider. I'm very disappointed with the lack of privacy and security.

Hey there. Sorry to hear you're upset about the experience. The only details you need to provide is your phone number (because we're a phone app) and your true name (because that's the point of the app, to help people be more transparent with who is calling them). You do not need to add any other information if you don't want to.

On another note - Truecaller absolutely would not be the reason why more fraudulent calls are calling you. You downloaded the app for a reason - probably because you had a lot of unknown numbers calling, and you wanted to know who they were. Well, now you can see.

Truecaller has been around for about 15 years with over 400 million people using the app today. We do not sell information, we help people identify, block and report fraudulent calls. Hope this helps. If not, please contact us if you're like to speak more - support@truecaller.com

A Warning Against Truecaller: Protect Your Privacy

My experience with Truecaller has been incredibly disappointing and concerning. Their customer support team deliberately evaded my questions, and when I persisted, they abruptly stopped responding altogether. This behavior is deeply troubling and shows a blatant disregard for user concerns and transparency.

Given these serious privacy issues and the lack of accountability, I strongly advise against downloading or using Truecaller. Protect your privacy and steer clear of this app. There are better, more trustworthy alternatives out there.
