I selected Two Men and a Truck based on their reputation and expected a professional moving service. Unfortunately, my experience fell well short of expectations.

My move involved collecting a modest volume of items from my father’s home in Bulleen, a small storage unit (approx. 3x3 storage unit) in Heidelberg West, and delivering them to my apartment in Heidelberg. While I understood there would be some complexity involved, I was surprised by the inefficiency of the service provided.

From the outset, I observed removalists carrying boxes individually rather than maximising the use of available trolleys and equipment. The truck’s hydraulic ramp was also not being utilised. As a result, the loading process appeared significantly slower than expected.

The move took considerably longer than anticipated, despite the relatively short distances between locations. By the time the truck arrived at my apartment, several hours had passed, and the inefficiencies continued during unloading.

The situation became so prolonged that my sister and two friends felt compelled to assist with the move in order to help complete the job in a reasonable timeframe. We ultimately found ourselves using the company’s own trolleys and helping transport items while still being charged the full commercial hourly rate.

What was most disappointing was that one of the removalists suggested that sending an additional worker may have reduced the overall cost of the move. As a customer being charged by the hour, that comment raised concerns about whether the job had been appropriately resourced from the beginning.

To their credit, Two Men and a Truck did engage with my complaint and offered a partial refund of $210. However, after extensive correspondence, I remained dissatisfied with their response. Having paid $2,125.60 for the move, I ultimately pursued the matter through my credit card company, which reviewed the circumstances and refunded me $600.

During the complaints process, the company also acknowledged concerns relating to staffing and equipment inefficiencies. While I appreciated that acknowledgment, I did not believe the proposed resolution adequately reflected the extent of the issues experienced on the day.

Throughout the complaints process, I encountered explanations and factual assertions that did not align with what I personally observed on the day. This included statements regarding the volume of items moved, which I believe significantly overstated the number of boxes involved. These inconsistencies further reduced my confidence in the accuracy of the company’s investigation and response.

I appreciate that moving days can be challenging and that operational variables exist. However, customers should not be expected to absorb the financial consequences of inefficient work practices, inadequate resourcing, or poor utilisation of equipment.

The experience also left me questioning the adequacy of the company’s recruitment, training and performance management processes. The work methods employed, combined with explanations provided throughout the day, did not align with what I would expect from experienced professional removalists.

Based on my experience, I would not use Two Men and a Truck again and would encourage others to carefully consider alternative providers before making a booking.
