WORST BANK in the UK

WORST BANK in the UK. They have the best savings rates but the WOSRT time wasting customer experience ever! They ask for documentation you don't have and they ask intrusive very discriminatory questions. Do not waste your time! And complaints system doesn't even work.

Appalling

Appalling, total waster of time. They didn’t contact me about my savings application until I contacted them, I was called Alison throughout the chat session and then told there was an issue with my date of birth and I would have to start the process again… Time to find another bank.

DO NOT USE THIS BANK

I would have given less if I could.
I opened a loyalty saver, and could only get out £1 of it.
I have spent hours chatting online waste of time, two phone calls all have given me different information about how to access money.
Don't bother with the biometrics you cannot get out anymore than 5k at a time.
Tried to close the account and was told that it had to have a zero balance.
Difficult as I cannot access my money.
Now I am having to with draw the daily limit until I have it all out.
I had told them repeatedly about the online message saying that the withdraw service wasn't available and yes I had tried other laptops, deleted cookies.
Dreadful bank worst next to nat west but then they are affiliated with them, so no surprise there.
On the second call he hung up on me, I was polite and didn't raise my voice but he just could not be bothered.

Please don't waste your time

Please don't waste your time. Two failed attempts at opening a savings account. Several broken promises from customer service first time round. An utter shambles of ID verification system, compounded by obvious process failings in the back-end. I have no desire to entrust my money to them.

Useless!!

Aside from their great interest rate they are - useless!! Getting hold of anyone quickly via telephone or Cora takes ages, and it’s pot luck if they understand, have any product knowledge and answer correctly. At best, they have serious training issues and communication channels need better resourcing and to actually work in a timely manner.

Poor experience like everyone else it seems. Gave up trying after the automated ID system wouldn't accept a perfectly genuine and valid utility bill for the third time. No options to override, reply to texts or contact a real person. Attractive interest rate but not worth the hassle.

Opened a new account

Opened a new account. Have been sitting on the online chat for an excessive amount of time just to ask for a card and reader to be sent to be which appears to be proving impossible. Surely this is the most basic thing to be sent automatically when opening a new account. It feels like I'm asking for the moon on a stick.

Update, this is the worst interaction I have ever had with any bank. I will be closing my account.

Unbelievably bad IT

Unbelievably bad IT. It looks and feels like Natwest which I have an account with. I was attracted to the better interest rate. But the online banking just does not work properly. Cannot get support.

Account opening /IT problems

Tried to set up an easy access account . The mobile App did not accept the customer number they had given me and “ locked me out” on their App . The link from the App to the site to get “unlocked “ then failed with all my browsers then showing that the Ulster Bank was unavailable due to “too many redirects” . I then went to the main website to get an unlock where again the site failed showing the link max unavailable with “ too many redirects” .

There is obviously a problem with this aspect of the site and the App because a whole page of the website sets out what to do when this happens ( including closing down all windows , removing all cookies , turning everything on and off , deleting and re-downloading App etc etc etc etc none of which worked . I tried on 2 separate devices , both with the latest software and using 2 different browsers . All attempts failed .

I then phoned and was told that someone would phone me to help at a fixed time yesterday .No one phoned when promised .

The Cora chat bot was no help at all .

I estimate 5 hours wasted on a complex registration process and a failed IT system.

Noted that Ulster has not attempted to respond to the criticisms on Trustpilot .

I opened Loyalty easy access saving…

I opened Loyalty easy access saving with Ulster Bank. Before opening the account I spoke to 3 different operatives explaining that for various reasons I could not use the mobile app. I asked could I just use a computer to access the account. In each occasion I was told that they will send me a card and a card reader and I could access my account via card and card reader.
I opened the account. Activated the account. Ordered the card reader via Cora ( their digital assistant). Each time I ordering the card was successful. I then called the bank and talked to a person and again ordered the card reader. But so far I have not received any card reader. So I cannot access my so called easy access savings account. Today I called back again and spoke to Nicoletta, who told me that I can only access my easy savings access savings via the mobile app.
I was misled by at least 3 people in Ulster Bank and opened an easy access account that I cannot access my account on line but just with a mobile app..Ulster Bank Operatives are not trained, people say whatever they want, Cora's messages are not accurate. Very poor communication from Ulster Bank. I wonder if they ever listen to what their operatives say to the customers on the phone? Some operatives are very rude, cut you off, etc. Or do these people work from home and behave in anyway they want and get away with it. Very disappointing so far.

They had an email sent to them on the 27/10/23...and were told we would like to open an account and possibly change banks altogether....I have electronic tags on our emails so I can see when they have been opened...on the 27th it was opened and read. No response to my request email...
So I can only conclude they are not the bank for me...this bank was recommended by Martin Lewis...think he needs to check into how these people operate.
Won't be opening any account with Ulster bank..EVER.

I have given them one star because you have to give them something, all I was asking for was 3 months statements with the banks address on the letterhead simple ask one would think but alas not to Ulster Bank, totally useless I will be moving all my accounts very soon.

Not worth the effort!

Made over an hour journey to Nat. West Branch to have them verify my details for Savings Account.
After waiting over 3 weeks and then, with difficulty, actually speaking to a "real" person was informed that I didn't pass the required criteria.
Disgraceful customer service which has cost me time (and money???)

Worst Bank I have ever dealt with

Process to open savings account was painful - finally after around 5 days I received everything and deposited savings.

Subsequently realised needed to put some in an ISA to avoid tax next year I tried to withdraw some funds - withdrawal was blocked told I had to go to Natwest branch with 2 forms of ID to prove it was me. I did this and tried to remake the payment and its blocked again - now been escalated to a team who you cannot call you have to wait for them to call you - utterly ridiculous. My money is basically being held hostage - as soon as I am able I will be closing this account and putting my money elsewhere.

Worst experience I have ever had with a bank - have lodged a complaint via their website.

Unable to open account

Unable to open account - no end of documents uploaded, all rejected, one gets accepted, the other that had been accepted is now rejected. Endless waits to talk to an agent, tried to lodge a complaint and they ended the chat without allowing me to do so.

Hopeless

Like other reviewers I too lost the will to live when trying to open a savings account, i.e. invest my money with them. Just abandoned the process.

Given up the will to live…

Started the account opening process on 3rd Oct. Despite visiting NatWest to prove my existence, still no account 23 days later. When I commented on their chat that it would be quicker to fly into George Best airport and open the account in person, the person I was 'chatting' to called ne George. This evening, when I asked for a link to lodge a complaint, the 'chat' ended.......
