Very pleased overall with this handwarmer. I considered an electronic type but decided they are too bulky. I suffer from Raynauds and need something small enough to slip inside my gloves occasionally. There is a knack to getting it going. The instructions are not clear enough and I considered knocking off a star for that. At first, in frustration, I made the mistake of putting some fuel on the 'wool' in the catalyst - it works but I then found out that this reduces its life. This is the technique I use. Contrary to the instructions, you don't need to remove the black bung; just stick the filler spout in and it will open a slit to allow the fuel in. Then apply a flame to the catalytic element whilst inverting it slightly. If you use a match, it will blacken it. Use a gas bbq lighter for best results. The instructions say a few seconds, which is misleading; at least ten is what's needed and wait to see the 'wool' glowing. It should then take and get really warm. After running it in, a half dose of fuel should last all day for at least six hours. This does vary for reasons that are unclear. Occasionally, it won't take if you rush the ignition process. The pouch is crucial as it will be way too hot to handle without it but it could be a bit more robust.
