Asked vets for propalin for my incontinent dog. Was told I couldn't have any unless I made an appointment for vet to see my dog. Was there 6months ago and paid £500 ( which I could hardly afford) to have her teeth sorted. Now they tell me that I cannot get anymore until I pay to see the vet. RIP OFF!!

I always used Vale vets Portishead would recommend to anyone always helpful friends staff wouldn’t go anywhere else also offer pet plan to help speed the cost over the year
Find a family-friendly Practice, who care about Animals, not Profits.
Absolutely terrible service.
Called them out on it so they told me I couldn't come back.
Asked for a quote for an animal export licence.
Numerous vets absolutely incompetent to say the least.
Caused me to miss my flight to Singapire with the dog costing an extra 2000.
Finally comes to pay, and I ask for the invoice to be collated all all items related to the export certificate.
They put a flea wormer and a consult fee, and so I sent this to the buyer.
Obviously on the day of collection of the health certificate the price went up £500 from the invoice, due to their incompetence and errors.
I made a complaint, wanted a director to call me to discuss their incompetence along the way, to which the director replied.
" oh I can't do this conversation ".
To see them pushing advertisements about how much they have spent on their renovations, that's why the staff seems to have fallen very far of the mark.
Honest reliable service from the start to the end of your pets life.
I rang with a major concern and was told to get there urgently. Willow was taken there within 30 mins and was given 100% the right and proper treatment, the most dignified and personal help while passing. Can't thank Zephanie enough.

Excellent service!!
Excellent service!!! Richard and the team were absolutely fantastic with my fur babies. Heidi and Princess would also like to thank you all very much for you above and beyond service.
Heidi has had 2 operations with Richard and Chris has sorted out Princess's allergies. Thank you!!! 😊👍🐶❤🐶
We agreed for vale vets at Portishead…
We agreed for vale vets at Portishead take out a bad molar tooth and remove a cyst on our Springer spaniel Zacks tail. We were quoted £250 by a vet called Emily who also told us the cyst would be removed for free. When we took Zack in on the day of his operation I had to sign a consent form which stated the op could cost between £250 - £400 depending on complications arising which I understood was usual for private operations.
However later in the day they called me to say that we would have to be charged extra for an xray and they wanted to take a further 5 teeth out which would end up costing another £800 and all this was just told to me in a matter of fact way. I did not agree to further teeth being taken out but agreed to an xray to see what was wrong with the other 5 teeth.
By 4:30 pm Zack was ready to be picked up. When I got there to get him they told me I could not have him untill payment had been made which was a little alarming for me. A nurse explained how to administer the pain medication and went through how much it all came to which to my surprise was £371.21 which was £121 more than the initial quote first given to us. I asked what we had been charged for and the nurse told me the extra £100 was for removing the cyst on his tail and of course the £21 was for the medication. I told the nurse that Emily the vet told us the cyst would be removed for free but she was not available to discuss. The nurse also told me they had decided not to put a bumper collar on Zack as he was not fussing with the wound on his tail.
3 days later Zack had managed to remove the stitches in the night as we kept an eye on him otherwise I cleaned the wound and applied a bandage of which Zack did not manage to remove. However the next day which was Saturday when changing the bandage it was obvious the wound was worse and our poor little Zack was in a lot of pain. We managed to clean the wound and apply a new bandage but we were very concerned for the risk of a bad infection setting in so we called vale vets emergency service and they happily and again matter factly quoted us £1000 for the stitches and £200 for being out of hours and this was not including the antibiotics Zack would have to take.
Understandably we did not have this amount of money to hand and my husband was so disgusted he just hung up.
Vale vets just reeled us in with a reasonable quote for the op and agreed to not charge for the cyst to be removed. On top of this they caused the problem of Zacks wound becoming open by 1 not putting a bumper collar on him as a precaution and 2 not applying a dressing to help protect the stitching and wound.
It seems to us that vale vets is just a money making racket that do not truly care about the animals they treat and just want to get as much money as they can out of pet owners whilst putting on a smiling face appearing as if they care. they are also prepared to reel you in with incentives they don't carry through with in order to get what they see as as much business as possible out of caring pet owners.

My labrador had a TPLO op with Richard the director 3 weeks ago. He came highly recommended from a friend. The after care has been 1st class and the response to my email updates on her post op recovery have been quick. The staff there have been wonderful and know my dog on a 1st name basis. Richard did a great job on the op and I would recommend the practice to anyone. Let's hope the rest of the recovery goes as well as the first half.

Really sympathetic end of life care for my cat. thank you.
Fantastic operation Peter
Fantastic operation Peter on Bella, she made an amazing recovery. She is back to her young self even though she is 13 years old.
Your attention to detail from original consultation through to removing stitches was second to none. You gave me the confidence I needed .
Beware if you need out of hours help
Beware if you are in need of a vets help out of hours. They will not come to help. They only offer a service based at their Cullompton practice. You have to put your distressed sick animal who could be in pain if moved, in a car or taxi and travel 20 mins if you live like us in Honiton. We were told that was the only way to be given advise and help. Absolutely appalling! Hours later watching our dog deteriorate we called again and was told that someone could possibly come to us early morning to put our dog to sleep. This was without any diagnosis. We called Ottery vets who were astonished that being registered with vale vets gave us no out of hours emergency visits. He came right away and was wonderful at a time we needed kindness and compassion. The whole experience and the way we were treated was so upsetting and shocking. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we did.
Our beautiful loved dog is dead now.
Our beautiful loved dog is dead now.
We registered with Richard a few years ago, initially we were very happy and felt confident our 2 spaniels would get the best care, as he expanded his business he became less invested in caring.
in march 2021 we noticed our dog had lost weight, fast. we took her for blood tests, paid the emergency fee (it was that or wait 2 weeks) nobody called with results, I rang, the receptionist told me they were all "normal" I asked what she was tested for? she said , oh ill ask, "everything" she replied, kidneys liver , everything. no need to do anything . Clearly a 14 kilo dog losing 2.5 kilos in a matter of weeks needed further investigation.
we registered her with a new vet, blood test showed she was not absorbing protein , kidney failure? Definitely not "normal" !
New vet requested all her records,-vale vets sent minimal notes.
I have written emails and called, left messages asking for Richard to get in touch urgently over the last few weeks, NOTHING! im sad and cross. Sadly we had to have an on call vet come to our home to put our beautiful 10 year old loyal and trusting spaniel to sleep. we feel we let her down.
I would not normally chose to share in this way but they have ignored me and let us all down , with the most devastating result.
I will be looking to complain in a formal manner. we owe this to all the other animals at risk .
hopefully vale vets know who wrote this review, though I doubt it , they don't appear to be interested .
Can't recommend
Tried to register my pet. Information on the website states that to do that I need to call. Tried for a few days in a row now, at different times too. Always calling for a bit and then going to voicemail. Can't recommend.
Exceptional vets
We have used Vale Vets in Barry and Cardiff for years and with multiple dogs for routine and specialist care. I cannot stress enough in words how great the service is and how caring and efficient the staff are at both. We travel about 45mins to remain at this vets as local vets do not come close to Vale. Richard, the MD is absolutely fantastic, I have so much confidence in his work and management. They have done so much for us and our pets, please keep up the good work.
