Here is my honest experience as an experienced van converter, overlander and designer.
I found the advertised claims to be very appealing. In particular, I found the claim that they featured dozens of different standard components that you could place in your van layout - in 3D no less - as well as the promise of detailed plans you can actually build from. Important this - they say you can build from these plans. That is not the case.
The product is a brutal kludge. It is something you would typically see on Steam as a sort of indy attempt at a sim or game built on unity by a small team and priced at under $3. In no way do they approach value for the money.
Now that I have exchanged about a dozen emails with vanspace trying to get a refund which I applied for on the same day I purchased the app, I can tell you what I've learned.
In actuality what this company is doing is 90% marketing and 5% product and 5% astroturfing/customer service/social media management. They will say VOLUMES about their product and overwhelm you with long-winded emails explaining how they provide value. These emails are just using canned responses. Their refund policy is to make you answer a list of questions to rationalize why you just don't want their software on day one. You can tell that a LOT of people want a refund after seeing the app in person. There is a reason they don't offer a trial.
Regarding the promises for V3 - I did not buy V3. I'm reviewing the product I bought.
Regarding the claim of "good faith", well its clear they have no good faith by not considering a refund within 24hrs. That's not good faith at all. They are trying to get around honoring the consumer protection guidelines.
The sad thing is that they make promises that mean they understand the market, but they do not deliver on any of them. But the reason why I warn you away is that they do not honor the transaction and will take your money and run. DO NOT BUY this and expect an easy refund if it doesn't suit your needs. It's a trap.

I have been communicating with you. It seems that you are unhappy with using 3D shapes occasionally to create your preferred particular objects, to fit in your specific van template.
Whilst we provide you with many pre-made objects ( and another 200+ being added in V3), these shapes will be needed as we can not possibly provide you with every single variation of every single object.
This is not a software limitation; it really is a personal preference with these shapes expected to be used in 3D design software.
You are quite right that we do not refund if we have provided our software in good faith, exactly as described and shown, it has been used and no technical issues are experienced.
That is pretty standard with software.

Awful software
Software is horrible and nor user friendly. Customer service team is non existent and will refuse any refund as soon as you log into your account. I was used the software for a few minutes and they still won't refund my transaction. Pretty much a fraudulent company. Don not belive the ads or customer reviews on their website.

Considering the thousands of users that we have, we do not have that many reviews; however, you will notice some below that state that our software is too basic.
When we receive such varying reviews, we then understand that we have to accommodate all users skill sets and ensure that we add the more complicated features for those who want more and provide more basic for others.
So we are making sure all are covered in our new V3 .
We aren't like any other software that you will have used previously, as these probably would have been limited to easy square/rectangular spaces and straight walls. vanspace3D is dedicated to van conversion, and so we need to accommodate all of the slopes and unusual shapes that every van or bus contains.
We also need to consider that in van conversion, it is not very likely that you will use standard-sized furniture. It would be a little bit like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and because of this, we make sure that we provide the features that will allow you to adjust everything manually.
I can see that our Support Team are in direct communication with you and have been providing a lot of support to get you up and running.
Regarding being cheaply made, this is not possible, not with a full Development Team working around the clock.
I personally recommend practising with the pre-made layouts in the Get Inspired section of your online account. These are great to download and play around with to get used to the features.

non-existent customer service
I purchased this to use immediately on a layout for my van, but I couldn't find my van's layout. I emailed customer service that same day asking for help, and got an automated response that they would reply within 24 hours. 2 days later and no response so I sent another email. Over a month later I still hadn't received a reply to either of my emails.
I ended up drawing the layout of my van by hand. I filed a charge back with my credit card company, and sent in my proof of email attempts, and my credit card company investigated and eventually reversed the charges.
So this review is for non-existent customer service.
Edited to add: my email service doesn't do full email boxes it passes on every single email received, and I am on facebook under the same name as my order, and chatting was not an option on their website then or I would have done that since I wanted immediate help.

This software does what it says
This software does what it says, and although it might not look like the latest unity/unreal engine game out there, its sole purpose is to layout your van in relatively short time, trying out different layouts quickly, and have a clear idea of what you will build. This is no automotive Unreal5 or 3dmax or cinema 4d. And paying a mere 20 eur for it is just supporting these fellas to go on with their great idea and to make it better. For all those who says this is from the 80’s - (its actually cool too! ) get sketchup2017 and do your build there and hopefully in 6 months we could see some designs!!

They are insisting that if I have a technical problem I should make contact with the technical department.

Once you have logged in, if you wish to request a refund, a refund incident case is opened, and our Service Team contact you directly.
They ask for information regarding why you wish to request a refund; this may be technical information if you have suggested a technical issue. At no time have you been told to contact another team; our Service Team has already contacted you, and this is who you have been communicating with.
Once received, we will always attempt to resolve it. if it is a technical issue that we can not, we refund in full.
I can see that you keep advising us that you do not want to give this information, and so after 2 weeks, you were informed that the case would close based on the limited info you had given so far, which was not a technical issue with our software.
If you would now like to provide the information requested, we are more than happy to re-open the case.

Really dreadful software. Looks like something from 20 years ago. Wish I'd read reviews before buying. It's very clunky, the graphics are pretty basic, it's not at all intuitive. Don't waste your time or money
The fact they don't provide any software demo in any way and have refund T&Cs that make it impossible to get your money back after the first login means you're buying it totally blind....... Probably a massive red flag as I can't see how any reasonable person would part with their own money for something that's as poor as this.

We are listening when we are told that some users find the design stage clunky/basic; however, we also get feedback that it is /hard/complicated.
Not forgetting those who just create their layouts, share them with us and then move onto their real-life build.
This makes us realise that we need to make sure that we develop a UI that allows for easy use or more detailed and technical at the users choice.

We of course are not a 'scam'. We have so many customers sharing their layouts created within our software across our social media. If we were, this would not be possible.
Some are now even onto their real-life builds and so we are able to follow them through their entire journey, pretty fantastic for us to be able to see this.
We aren't 'sneaky' we show our software in action everywhere, we also are very clear that we do not offer a free trial as you can design a layout in under an hour if you wanted.
Finally, we are the only software that will allow you to create a layout within a van template that allows for slopes and wheel arches, all for $19

Hard to use, hardly any vans to choose from and very few modules to put in your imaginary van.
I've been told by them that I can create my own 3d modules. I bought the program so I didn't have to do that

We have over 100+ pre-made templates for you to choose from within the software, all have been the most popular requests by our existing customers with more being added very soon. We also offer a Custom Template generator so that you can create your own with your own dimensions.
With regards to 3D Modules, these are standard in 3D design software and more importantly, absolutely needed with van conversion.
WIth a van, you are not dealing with a nice easy square shaped room, but a van with slopes and wheel arches.
It is very rare that a van converter would use standard sizes and shapes with most furniture having to be built to fit into certain spaces and so we must use these if wanting to correctly design a layout.
All layouts that we share on a weekly basis will have elements of these used and we provide a great help guide within your SUPPORT area to help you get started.
I am sorry that you do not wish to use these and are welcome to use the pre made furniture ( 200+ new being added in V3) that we also supply however, this is not going to give you an accurate plan.

We do not have any issues with our software that would cause what you describe, if we did everyone would experience these and this is not what our users on Instagram and in our communities are reporting while sharing many layouts with us daily.
As for clunky, we could agree with you somewhat as we do want the UI to be smoother, that is why we are releasing a brand new one in V3 shortly, within weeks!

Came to use the software today and was told the price I paid was only to use the software for a year.

I actually spoke wth you in chat about this and explained the following
1. You purchased a one years software licence which expired a few months ago
2. Updates are free for the entire time of your active license - and should be downloaded as they contain improvements, new features and bug resolves each time. You are at no time expected to pay for these additionally.
I don't think it can be called a rip off when we provided you with exactly what you purchased in good faith and you logged in and used although we understand not as much as you had intended.
The amount of times that you log in is completely up to you, the access will always be there during your purchased period.
When you got in touch you explained that Covid restrictions had affected your need to carry on with your conversion and you were now ready to use our software. To help, I offered you the option to add on lifetime access for $8, even though you no longer had an active license.
I explained that I would ensure this would reactivate your account rather than having to re-purchase.
We know that Covid affected so many people, ourselves included and still is, hence offering a very good solution to make sure that you could regain access to your software within minutes.
We do feel that we were fair and made attempts to get resolved in the best way possible although appreciate that you feel we should give you access for free.
The offer to purchase our Life Time access as this late point is still there for you should you wish to get reactivated.

We would not make any customer pay for an update, it is for the company to ensure that their users are kept fully up to date to allow for updates in Windows and Macs.
Too basic; company immature and unprofessional
It’s really basic computer aided design (CAD) that you can find anywhere. This app is at the low end, so it isn’t very good. That said, good CAD apps can be expensive, so you get what you pay for.
Unfortunately, the company’s response to reviews is terribly unprofessional. They seem to think that clearly displaying a terrible refund policy on every page somehow makes it good. They also seem to misunderstand the idea of reviews. I’m not looking for them to eviscerate me because I don’t like their software. If they would grow up, they’d see that people have opinions, and they need to accept those opinions and try to make their product better. According to Trustpilot, the majority of customers are not happy with the software; a solid, professional company would stop fighting with their customers and listen to them.
I’m sure there will be a long-winded response to this review, but since I didn’t ask for it, I will not read it.

I do need to respond as it is essential to ensure that it is understood that we are not CAD software. We really do not advertise as such.
We provide templates so that you can create your living design in 3D for your van conversion.
You are quite right that CAD is expensive, some cost thousands, and it would be impossible to provide this for $19
That being said, we do want to bridge the gap between Living Design and CAD software for the Van Life community as we are so passionate about it.
We appreciate your comments, and whilst we understand that some may think Trust Pilot is the best resource for reviews, it is not. Our Socia Media shows all of the layouts that our customers are sharing with us daily and recommend that you take a look.

Not possible to try or have a demo, and disappointed
Not possible to try or have a demo, except a promo-video online. So I decided to buy for the test : the idea of the software is good, I suppose it's a lot of work, but... I find the software a little bit "amateur". It's not easy to download, to connect and activate, there is a lot of page to read to understand how to do it, ... there is 2 versions, but no one is intuitive. No menu for one, or no contextual menu, no right clic for the other. I found this laborious to use. After an hour, I did not manage to do anything and I was discouraged. So I ask politely for a refund with explanations of my situation, and the answer was something like "no refund, you have to learn to use it, use the faq, etc.". But I prefer to use my time to build something instead of learn to try to use a software. So I return to my first solution, a simple website, free, very fast to build without knowledge, and abandonned VanSpace3d. I was disappointed by the answer of no refunding even if I have explained not to use it at all and abandon. I lost my money... Sad. Maybe it's a good solution for someone, but not me

I have been able to locate your account and can see that you did indeed log in to your software on multiple occasions and so we really can consider this used.
I have also been able to locate our communications with you and can see that our Support Team sent you a lovely response containing many helpful tips and steps to get you up and running
We also asked if it was possible that you were experiencing a technical issue that was causing features to perhaps not perform correctly for you. If you felt that you were we asked you to let us know what was happening but did not receive any further information. Our next form of communication from you was via this review.
I do understand that you feel that you want to spend time creating rather than getting to know all of the different features within the software however, it really is not possible to log in to new software and not have to spend some time 'learning'
I am sorry to see your review as with the steps provided by our Team, we really do only ask for an hour or two out of your time before you are flying.

Can't get a refund
This company is very anti-consumer, offering only the most specific conditions to request a refund.
Their refund policy contains such gems as
> "Logging into your vanspace 3D account online is deemed as 'taking off the wrapper' of your purchase"
> "Once you have logged into your online account, changing your mind, no longer needing or finding too hard to use initially is not a reason to request a refund."
> "Once you have logged in online, you have waived your right to a 14 day cooling off period as is standard with all online digital content."
I've gotten refunds from so many digital services over the years that it's obvious the refund policy only exists to grift people out of their money.
Avoid this company. I'll be making use of Sketch tutorials on Youtube instead.

One very important thing that you neglect to mention is that we will always refund in full if you experience a technical issue that we can not resolve, but we are going to try and by purchasing you do agree to this.
There are regulations and consumer rights to consider when making any Digital Purchase. When purchasing any kind of digital content, once it has been 'opened' you waive your right to a 14 day cooling-off period as the product is considered used.
This is very different to the regulations surrounding online distance purchases, online digital content purchases have separate policies.
So with software, once you have logged in, it is used.
Of course each company can then determine whether they would like to broaden their policy and offer refunds for certain criteria such as the length of time used etc.
This is where we are different.
As we are not a game and because a van layout can be created in under an hour if really needed, we are not able to offer a free trial. We are very clear about this.
As a Customer you could log in and use, create exactly what you needed, use the Camera feature to export ( or your own snipping tool for your layout images ) and then request a refund.
So once logged in, if you do wish to no longer use we are going to ask why and want to help with what ever it is that you need.
We provide our software in good faith, exactly as shown across our Website and Social Media platforms so viewers can make informed decisions before purchasing which should include reviewing any refund policy.
We have a great Support Team that are there to help all of our Customers and also investigate any technical issues that you may encounter quickly.

A bit rough, but overall works great and good support!
There was some branding curiosities, iffy reviews, and the website was a bit rough earlier this year when I first looked at Vanspace. But I decided to give it a go, knowing it was still new and would have updates coming along.
I've now designed two vans with the software and they came out pretty cool and very similar in detail to the ones in the company's video. It did take me a solid 8 hours of playing around before I felt I got the hang of it. It did take effort and I do hope the interface gets easier to use in the future, but overall — I like the product and I'd buy it again if I could go back in time. They also have pretty good, quick support for your questions.
