Find An Emergency Vet
Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The duty vet was very reassuring and administered the right treatment for us to get a good night's sleep.

The wait was quite long, but when seen, I got a thorough exam for my dog. Possible problem was picked up.
I had to ring them in the evening for further medication, which the vet was happy to do for me

I had to visit the out of hours with a Boarding dog I was looking after as he had ruptured his anal gland.
We arrived at the Hemel Hempstead branch and they were having a very busy evening.
We were triaged by the nurse and then had to wait for the vet to see us. After waiting 2 hours we would told we were not a priority and to go home and call their vets in the morning.
I fully understand there were very poorly dogs coming in, but I feel they need more staff available . Not impressed with the service we received.

We were sadly in need of end of life care for our dog. Saturday evening (out of hours) we are 4 mins drive from the vet. I asked if there was any possibility of a home visit, as our dog was very very weak and elderly. Receptionsist came back to us and the vet quoted a random £1,000 call out fee (plus the usual fee 470 - high for out of hours - but you have no choice) She seemed embarrassed and surprised by this quote too.
Thankfully we found a more ethical approach with a wonderful caring vet, who came to the house, and spent half an hour with us.
Who on earth sees this as a chance to make so much money from such a situation.

When your own vet's closed you have no choice, but be prepared:
(1) No advance warning given of the unexpectedly EXHORBITANT consultation fee of £347 . That's just their charge for 15 minutes of their time, and that's before the cost of any treatment or drugs. Of course we all understand that out of hours service will cost more than standard, but £350? Really?? This surely should be declared up front so at least one is aware, even if one has no choice in an emergency.
(2) The bleeding foot came out all neatly dressed and bandaged, but with a plastic bag tied around it. I queried this and was told it was to protect the dressing from getting wet outside. However it was completely dry outside, and only a 10 second walk to the car so I started to remove the bag, but was told not to. Of course I obeyed, but when I got home and removed the bag it was full of blood, having completely soaked through the dressing and bandages. I now strongly suspect that was why they insisted on the plastic bag as they knew the dressing would fail. So that's £450 for a dressing that lasted less than 1/2 an hour.
Yes this is an emergency service, so if you need them you need them, and they know it. Caveat emptor.

The vet was amazing - honest caring and fully informed me on what was happening. I was referred to vets now as an out of hours practice yet they treated me like I’d been a customer for years.
My dog was in an emergency situation over night and was kept in. They played him jazz to calm him in his kennel. Called me on time and regularly through the night to update I couldn’t be more grateful!

Communication was OK, but they're very quick to start demanding payment - calle about money less than 12 hours after I'd had to have my dog put to sleep. I appreciate they are a business, but I think they could be a bit more sensitive.
