Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Exceptional care given to our dog Flo, kindness and consideration shown towards us. Time given to listen, reassurance given when explaining what treatment and care needed to be implemented. Professional, vet Charlotte was wonderful.

Efficient, friendly, knowledgeable and giving us confidence that our cat’s welfare comes first

My cat was rushed in late Saturday night on the bank holiday weekend with a very high temperature. She was instantly whisked away to the back for assessment when we arrived. Despite the situation, there was no panic from any of the staff, just calm, collected professionalism. The vets we saw/spoke with throughout her stay were incredibly patient, compassionate, and knowledgeable. It made leaving my very poorly cat behind a little easier knowing she was in incredibly safe hands. I was kept updated every step of the way and any new costs were run past me for consent before going ahead and adding to the insurance billing. From initial contact with the VetsNow contact centre (I think it was Scott I spoke with?) to arrival at the centre and then eventual discharge three days later, I cannot fault VetsNow at all. The staff and service were incredible. Obviously, being an emergency vets, the costs are a little higher than my regular vet but VetsNow are working directly with my insurers for reimbursement and I just had to leave a deposit. Happy to report, my cat is now on the mend at home following ongoing treatment with her regular vet. She wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for the quick action of the team at VetsNow and I will be forever grateful to them for saving her life.

Superb vet and staff, kind and helpful so no issue…BUT the charges..omg…the company takes advantage of our love for animals in this country so think they can charge what they like…it a common problem in the UK that these big vet companies take advantage of us, it’s disgusting

Although I was given devastating news that Pepper had been run over and a grave prognosis, I gave instruction for VetsNow to do everything they could to save her. They were clear about the costs and I was given constant updates on her condition. It made me feel that they were really trying their best. Pepper is now home and recovering well thanks to the vets that were covering that weekend

The staff at Hykeham Vets Now were absolutely brilliant - extremely caring, good communication, and explained my pet's condition and treatment well. Out of hours vets are never cheap, but they are good at explaining how the costs break down. Would definitely recommend them.

When your dog is repeatedly sick in the lounge and then uncharacteristically hides herself away in the bathroom, sheer panic sets in. That was our Wednesday evening with Evie. Knowing she was completely out of sorts and in distress, we made an emergency out-of-hours dash to the clinic.
From the moment we made the call, the response was phenomenal. Within 30 minutes of phoning, Evie was through the doors, being examined, and on her way to feeling better. The vet and the veterinary nurse on duty were absolutely lovely. Despite working a grueling 12-hour overnight shift, they handled our sheer panic with total calm and professionalism, taking her in for the night to provide IV fluids and intensive monitoring.
The diagnosis ended up being a foreign blockage of unknown origin—a weird piece of rubber that had caused an immense amount of stomach irritation on its way through her digestive tract. We were terrified she would need invasive surgery, but the team managed her condition expertly overnight. Thanks to their care (and some heavy-duty laxatives), she safely passed the remaining blockage at 5 PM the following day.
There is no denying that out-of-hours emergency vet care is a significant financial undertaking—our final bill came to over £2,100. However, you absolutely cannot put a price on the peace of mind they provided. Knowing there is a fully staffed, dedicated team staying awake all night to keep your pet safe is worth every single penny. They truly deserve to be recognized and compensated for the incredible frontline work they do.
Evie bounced back the very next morning, incredibly peppy and with absolutely zero remorse for the 12 hours of chaos she caused. We, on the other hand, will be forever grateful to the team at Vets Now for getting our girl safely through the night.

Unfortunately we had to take our cat in for an out-of-hours weekend consultation. Service was quick and efficient and we were able to get some short-term pain relief for her, but the price of that consultation is nothing short of extortionate. £313.50 for a 15-minute appointment, plus meds, and finally an extra £35 to 'process the insurance claim'. Funny how my local vet doesn't charge a fee for processing claims.
5/5 for the staff on site, 0/5 for a company who take advantage of those who don't want to watch their pet suffer over a weekend.

Very grateful that our little pooch was seen over the weekend. Unfortunately, there is no surgery/hospital in Lincoln, the nearest being Derby or Leeds. Good Vets and staff. They informed us about the cost of emergency appointment and the referral after, issued painkillers. Thorough.

Answering the phone promptly and we got booked in with the vets straight away once at the vets Ned was seen within five minutes and put our minds at ease

Vets now in Lincoln have monopolised the area so there is only one vets left that offer their own out of hours service. We cannot change vets as then we will be servants to this egregious, overinflated fee.
That means if you are with the one vets who haven't sold out to Vets Now, you are bound to them (which has its own issues, hence trying to research another veterinary practice) unless you are prepared pay the extortionate fee of over £300 for an out of hours appointment, which is usually an emergency.
They say it's 'more expensive to run an OOH' but in Lincoln they use an existing vets, so the equipment/premises etc is already set up. There is absolutely no need to charge that much unless you just want to line your own pocket.
People in Lincoln don't have a choice, it's either them, or Medivet who are exactly the same.
They are capitalising on the fact that when it's 11pm, and your fur baby is sick, you need them to be seen and be made better. What else are you supposed to do, watch them in pain till 8.30 the next morning?
And this isn't just the cost of having a pet. They abuse the fact we are beholden to them.
Something needs to be done to stop this process and bring it back to actually caring about animals, not about increasing their bank balance.
