Pet Care Advice
Customer Hub
Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.
That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.
Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.
Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We used Vets Now when our dog became suddenly unwell and our vets were closed. We were directed to Vets Now when making contact out of hours.
As soon as we arrived our dog was seen promptly and his health needs responded to quickly and efficiently. He was given excellent care and we left feeling more reassured that our dog was not uncomfortable or in pain. We needed follow up treatment with our own vets and Vets Now communicated with them so they were fully updated.
We would highly recommend Vets Now, however, the out of hours fee is eye watering!

The cost was £313 which I was aware of at time of booking as it was an emergency and a Sunday. The vet was lovely but the place lacked information, direction and I got ripped off by paying £80 for a small 5ml bottle of eye drops which cost £5 online. I was not offered a prescription and was not aware of the cost of these eye drops until I got home. My invoice was emailed to me! Absolute taking the Mickey of the cost when the Government have recently stopped Vets from extortionate pricing.

My cat received successful treatment for an ongoing condition which escalated outside of my regular vets practice hours. For that I cannot fault Vets Now.
However, whilst I expected to pay over and above my normal Vets charge for the procedure I was completely shocked at the cost of my visit.
Almost £350 for a 10-15 minute consultation including the cost of an enema.
One star knocked off for that.

The staff from the front desk to Vets where exceptional. My drop by two stars was the medication fees. Of course I understand the out of hours , holiday salary fees and have absolutely no problems with that. But medication has no fluctuating costs whether its out of hours or not. For example the charcoal I took away is £18 ( yes or course I expect an adm fee). But £57+...is nearly three times the price. Not sure the actual + adm costs for their injection s. But again I don't understand what bearing out of hours has on fixed costs on the medication.
Thank you for your reply which goes on about your additional costs over the out of hours period. I think I very much covered that and am in agreement. But I still see no justification for inflating the medication costs. This is a fixed cost to you regardless of time of the day, week, month. Therefore you reply does nothing to address my query and is merely your generic reply. Very disappointing

I was greeted at the door as I had Elsie in my arms. They were expecting me and we were not kept waiting very long. The vet was really good at explaining everything with her concerns and she gave Elsie a painkiller injection and some tablets. I am so grateful that your team were on hand to help with my Elsie highly recommend your services

calling up out of hours and visiting the vets - which is costly, I then see online there is an option for just speaking to or video calling a vet (cheaper) yet this option was not offered to me when I called - which I did as this was the advice from my own vets website.
feel very misinformed by both parties.

I wanted to start by saying that the service I received at your Portsmouth branch was excellent — effective, friendly, and compassionate. I really appreciated the care provided.
However, I am very disappointed that despite paying a £35 admin fee to support my insurance claim, my insurer is still waiting for a response from your team. I paid this fee with the expectation that the claim would be handled promptly and efficiently.
This delay is frustrating and has left me feeling let down, especially after such a positive in-person experience. I would appreciate it if you could urgently review and respond to the insurance company so that my claim can be processed without further delay.

I was told to bring my dog in as quickly as possible due to a potential toxic ingestion, so I did — expecting urgency and care. Instead, we were left in the waiting room for nearly a hour with no acknowledgment, no updates, and no apparent concern for the situation. Staff walked past us multiple times without even a glance, and I had to ask when we would be seen.
In an emergency, you expect compassion and professionalism. Sadly, neither were shown here. It left me questioning: where has the love and urgency for animals gone in this industry? This experience was incredibly upsetting during an already stressful time.

Visited the Portsmouth clinic with my dog in the early hours of a Sunday as he’d been vomiting and his stomach was hard and bloated, he was clearly in pain. The vet sat on the floor so he would not be made more uncomfortable by picking him up to go on the table. She was kind, gentle and quick in his examination and treatment. When I explained he gets sick with anti- inflammatory drugs as pain meds, she prescribed dog paracetamol with codeine, to take with me which I have never been offered by my regular vet. He has recovered well and the paracetamol has been a revelation. He takes and tolerates it well and I could see it working as he visibly relaxed and was able to sleep at last. Thank you so much!
